Understood thanks for the info, definitely worth knowing for future

CX does appear to use married segments as well. I don’t know if they did previously, but looking to fly back from Shanghai to London, lots of availability as a connection, but not on the individual flights.

Thanks @JDB…not entirely sure what a married segment is? Is it for example you can book MNL-HKG-LHR on one ticket and you have to do the whole trip? But you can’t see either MNL-HKG or HKG-LHR? If so that’s handy to know thanks, although not for this trip as I do already have my HKG-LHR booked.

I’m looking at the same route (both ways) for July this year and have noticed that there seem to be gaps of dates where there are no award flights, whether you check CX directly or on BA/QR (not sure about when tickets get released, which is what you’re asking about).

Thanks both, I rang BA and got a very helpful person who agreed that the availability has dropped off a cliff compared to last year. Said he didn’t know for definite why, just that CX stop releasing seats once they hit a target. CX release 360 days before

Will wait a bit and see what happens and then likely to have to book for cash. I only closed my HSBC WE recently and so have no way to earn CX points atm. Hopefully I can apply again in 4 months

Just on the off chance it helps you, there are seats available 2 April…

I find the crews to be the most inconsistent element of BA…a lot of them are great and a pleasure to interact with, others are just shockingly bad and you wonder why they even do the job. The problem is you never know what you are going to get!

Expedia are useless, I had an issue with a hotel that they had no interest in trying to help resolve, they just offered me £25 to try and shut me up. Only advise I would give is try once more to get Expedia to resolve it, so you can evidence this to the credit card co when you raise the claim as they will want to see you have at least tried

Is pointless contacting the Italian police, they won’t do anything

Oh wow. I haven’t got that. Is the link personalised?

    Yes the link is personalised

I look after BA accounts for 5 family members and I only have the email once so far so I’m sure they are in the process of sending them out

received email from BA this afternoon, BAPP SUB increased to 50k avios when you spend £6k in 3 months or BA Amex (free) 15k avios when you spend £2k in 3 months

they say you need to apply via the link in the email…

    apply by 15 July

I also have HSBC premier travel insurance and had this exact same question a few months ago. The answer they gave me was that as long as the connection you book is possible all things being well, and doesn’t involve any element of crossing your fingers to make the connection, then if you are delayed on one full flight they will cover you for the subsequent flight.

I would suggest you call them and ask the same question, then their response is recorded on your account

I think 12 hrs is plenty of time personally but I guess it all depends on the airline and if that airline has any subsequent flights that you could get that would stop you missing your connection

    Thank you.

Kermit is 11 but often it feels like he wants to be 8 (or younger) such is his lack of independence.

Freddo is 8 but wants to be at least 11.

When they are both sitting down people often think they are twins as Freddo has a humongous noggin.

so its a bit like going on holiday with Ant & Dec then? 🙂

I am thinking of applying for the world elite Premier card again after cancelling back in December /January. I was wondering if there is any limitation in relation to the sign up bonus? I cannot find anything on the website to stipulate any such thing

    Six months minimum since cancelling

The Mayfair Chippy is normally pretty good although always got a queue and not cheap obviously

However best fish and chip shop is Fishers in Fulham. Only a couple of stops along the district line and great to eat in or get a takeaway and sit in bishops park down by the river. Always take non locals here who are craving fish and chips and they have all been very happy

With your username, surprised you didn’t know this… 🙂

This not having a card for period of time, is that even if your a supplementary card holder and someone else is main?

No, supp cards don’t impact eligibility for your own cards/accounts

We flew BA0015 end of jan this year and it was a 777 with CS. It changes so will likely/possibly change again before you fly in April next year

BA0011 same dates was an A380 flying the old CW seat

We flew home from HK on an 789 with old CW seats. We have booked same return flight for next year and that’s currently a 777 with CS.

Point is they change the planes so there is no guarantee either way

You can access some websites whilst using the free messaging WiFi on BA. I was browsing hfp whilst flying to Athens on Saturday. It’s pretty slow obviously but it does work.

Unless by ‘some websites’ you just meant that the slow speed (rarely over 25 kB/s for me) makes many websites with extensive scripting and media take too long to load.

Yes this is what I meant.

Has anyone recently flown on the BA 787-9 in Club?

Row 13 is available (hooray) but I am reluctant (would prefer TV screen and wifi) – I’m unable to find any other options so just wondering if it’s worth taking a punt…

Do you mean to Tokyo or in general? If the latter then yes from HKG end of feb in row 13. I don’t understand your q tho as both our seats had a tv. The WiFi however was not working. We are flying to Tokyo next year on this plane also but that doesn’t help…

Zipcar now has a fee for congestion charging

Charges apply from the 23rd September 2024.

Congestion Charge Zone: If you drive a Zipcar into the London Congestion Charge Zone during its operational hours, a fee of £5 (including VAT) will be charged to your account.
No Charge: If you book and stay within the Congestion Charge Zone for your entire trip, you won’t be charged the £5 fee.
Electric Vehicles: No need to worry about the Congestion Charge if you’re driving an electric Zipcar—these vehicles are exempt from the charge for now.

Thanks for that wasn’t aware it had changed. Looking back at my history it seems I’ve been lucky and always picked electric cars when I’ve driven into central…

Last time I did Zipcar years ago, it included congestion charge. May be worth double checking.

Yes, Heathrow drop off charge has no mercy.

Yes Zipcar still includes CC in the rate

Make sure you check the Japan airline flights on both BA online and Qatar both online and via phone as the availability seems to be different across all as I found out recently

@WorldFlyer – you aren’t exactly a ‘new’ customer, so you could ask the question the other way round. If Amex chose to block you from referrals before, why would they allow them now and that’s before even taking into account the fact you have shunned them for two years, presumably seeking gain.

    @sloth
    – is there any evidence for your assertion “like the majority of us you are blocked”? It seems highly improbable. Also, it isn’t that Amex doesn’t want to pay out referrals any more, but rather they don’t want to pay out points for bad referrals and/or to bad referees.

    @JDB
I have as much evidence for my assertion as you have that my assertion is wrong…

I am also not criticising Amex as you are implying. It’s their card and their programme, they can do what they want 😉

I have just signed up for a new Amex card after a 2 year pause with AMEX. It initially showed me a referral link, however this is now gone stating I am temporarily blocked from the referral programme.
Why would they block me instantly as a new customer.
I was previously blocked from referring others too, 2 years ago.

Like the majority of us you are blocked as they don’t want to pay out the referral points anymore. If you took down the referral link though it will still work

That shouldn’t be the case, have you double checked the dates?

I just double checked and on both occasions its totalling the same amount of points.

if I made one booking for 5 nights or if I booked each night individually.

In case it helps you…I booked the IC HK in April ’24 for 2 nights in Feb this year. Booked at 51k average per night, I rebooked 6 times until final rebook in Dec ’24 for 33k average per night. From this point the rate only ever increased. I also used a SUV and got the Victoria Harbour full suite so was very pleased in the end of the day for total of 66k for 2 nights at the weekend

just trying to illustrate that there is benefit to booking separate nights and being organised to check every couple of weeks or so

oh that’s a really good deal. Were you able to see the light show from your view? I guess your right maybe i can do the same. do you happen to know how long it takes to have points returned to your account if you rebook. just trying to understand if I need spare points on hand.

    points are normally returned instantly

we were never in the room util at least 11pm but yes you get the Victoria harbour view and would be able to see most of the light show although not all due to the location/angle of the hotel in TST. the view of HK island is great though and was what I wanted
