Paid my BT bill, triggered the email within 5 mins which was exceedingly fast considering how slow it normally is

Thanks, in the end was a moot point anyway since BA suddenly got the anticipated 2 hr delay down to 6 mins…

Thanks for reply, yes I got through in a positively speedy 4 mins, they even opened up extra lanes upstairs in typical Swiss fashion. Not fast track this time, although it wouldnt appear to make much difference. Puts my hour long wait at Heathrow T3 last Saturday, in fast track, to shame

I thought I read that the credit would go onto a cancelled card and you could request a transfer to a bank account.

    Correct

@Andrew. I don’t suppose you tried buying a gift card to trigger the offer did you?

    I did and hasn’t worked…

I am wanting to book EDI-LHR-IAH for October. I can find LHR-IAH flights in Club but when I try to book from EDI there is no availability.

Anyone else managed to use a Barclays upgrade voucher from the regions?

    Thanks!

They don’t even work from City airport…

just phoned the “helpline” who were, as expected, completely useless and clueless. have raised as a complaint but fully expect they will just stick their had in the sand and ignore it. maybe I should have reserved the one I saw whilst I was on the plane and then reserved it it numerous times but was trying to do the right thing…stupid me 🙂

is a shame as it was a good method of getting to and from T5, now its just a waste of time

Thanks all, returning to T5 on Sunday night but around 10pm ish so will see how I get on and report back

Did you manage to use it? I arrived slightly earlier on Sunday and there were no Zipcars available for pickup. Checked multiple times over 45 minutes or so.

yes, complete waste of time…landed around 10pm, checked the Zipcar app on the plane and there was 1 car only which I knew I would never get to in time, especially as the ground crew bought the wrong steps to the plane and had to change them…anyway once through immigration I checked again and nothing available. kept checking whilst walking to the bus stop and whilst speaking to the courtesy bus driver who said he believed there had been no cars for last 2 hours and had 10 people like me asking the same question…:) gave up as didn’t want to miss the last tube (was 11pm st this point).

had the same issue when we returned to T5 back in jan as well so seems they are completely unreliable now and a waste of time. is a shame as I used to use them a lot pre pandemic but if they can’t provide the service on 2/2 opportunities that I tried I certainly won’t be relying on them anymore. will ring and complain and give them chance to see what they say…

I don’t want to suggest this story is nonsense, but I’ve not heard of a single person getting £100 so a large group all getting it …. sounds unlikely.

Some people get £200 which is a holding limit. It is lifted as soon as you supply the income verification documents they request and is a way of expediting the card manufacturing without waiting for you to reply.

We now have the final acceptance rates (including those who went via the eligibility checker) and it is very high. Not Amex’s 90% acceptance rate via HfP, but not hugely off. Of course, I would have expected something nearer our 92% from Virgin Money, and not lower, but the difference is nowhere near what you may imagine from reading HfP.

    It’s blatantly nonsense…

in reply to: Downgrade via app – “no options available”

@rob are you able to comment on this at all, we have asked before. Your article clearly stated downgrade was available and I think you said Barclays okayed your copy before you posted it. Everyone’s experience however is that Barclays think they get to tell you the customer what you can have and it’s entirely up to them, there is a very 1950s-esque attitude to their company where they think they are in charge and we the customer should be jolly grateful for what they offer, rather than them seeing themselves as there to meet customer desires wherever reasonably possible.

I’m quite sure that all the information Rob has published has been provided with the utmost good faith, so it is quite unreasonable to harangue him in respect of the execution over which he has no control. You are also asking, or rather rudely demanding, that he should put himself in the invidious position of highlighting to Barclays that some customers are wanting to cut and run after grabbing their welcome bonuses within weeks of launch. Probably not the calibre of customer they were hoping to attract. You need to contact the card provider, not the messenger.

I still have no option to downgrade and I would like to for the simple reason I have a credit limit which is too small to be useful and over 1 per cent of the monthly fee.

So why wouldn’t you just cancel the card if it’s no good to you?

I have the same issue it seems…

I am not downgrading for this reason. But I appreciate all of you defending Barclays I am sure they will greatly appreciate you standing up for them.

Even if you were downgrading for a more justifiable reason after just weeks, there is no particular reason why they should make it so easy after giving you 25k Avios in return for almost nothing. I doubt assisting financial flibbertigibbets is part of the strategy for this product, nor is it probably a brilliant idea to identify yourself as one to the country’s top credit card provider and top 5 mortgage lender.

I wonder why they didn’t go for a non-refundable annual fee, which would’ve prevented this sort of ‘behaviour’ which was entirely inevitable.

And even more inevitable as Rob promoted it as such!

in reply to: Post new Amex statement credit offers here!

MY PRG Gold Amex free year runs out on next month, and I am waiting for two credits from 19 March, one LNER, one Deliveroo. All earlier Deliveroo credits have turned up before the actual charge stopped being pending. If the card is cancelled, does that cancel the credits too, or would they credit them to, say, an Amex Rewards card?

If you cancel the card you lose any statement credits you are waiting for.

Is not necessarily correct. I cancelled a BAPP and a Nectar card whilst waiting for 4 shop small credits. They posted about a month after the cards were closed, putting them in credit (statements were sent to inform me of the positive balances). I had asked twice before cancelling the cards if they would still honour the credits as they were clearly deliberately delaying crediting them and I was assured they would. I had threatened them with a formal complaint if they didn’t adhere to that so not sure if it had any bearing…

anyone had any BAPP retention offers yet today…?

They indicated that player 2 might be offered something but we turned down the opportunity for her to be passed through to the account closure team, instead favouring the clock reset strategy as well as enjoying the opportunity to lay blame at BA’s reward flight price increases. Cannot possibly believe it would have been much of an offer.

will be cancelling in a few days once my 90 days is up that they insist I wait for credit of shop small and other credits… so now two reasons for cancelling

A stupid question it maybe … I believe you have to earn 70k plus to be Eligable to apply (or have other wealth) and complete the switch. I didn’t think credit checks can check wealth so could you actually get the account on a lower salary , if so will you get the monthly avios once enrolled and also the welcome bonus ? Or will Barclays downgrade your account pretty promptly when they see your monthly salary is lower

Depends on how close you are to the threshold, unless it’s miles away then wouldn’t be an issue…and yes you are correct, they can’t check wealth externally but in this case you need to transfer that wealth to within Barclays to qualify

Already have an account with HSBC but given the absolute run-around trying to get it upgraded to premier. Other people get the same? Minded to just close the account and apply as a new customer

Just apply online for premier account, easiest way

Curio Milan is a really nice hotel in a slightly weird location, but only 15 mins or so from central on the metro. all staff really friendly and helpful and you want get any issues having only booked for 1. I have been upgraded several levels both stays as a lowly gold. breakfast is amazing btw, so much choice and very nice food. decent shopping mall across the main road

So many people do get triggered about the weirdest of things…

    So @Sloth….
How many times a week do you fly?
How many times a week might you buy food?

The answers to the above are irrelevant. We all have to food shop and we all choose to fly. And we all mostly have a choice of where and how we do that and if we dont like the choice on offer we can go elsewhere.

BA gets complained about day in and day out on here, its evident they are not that bothered as they have done little to change anything despite that silly email from Sean Doyle, they will continue as they are and they will continue to sell millions of seats. They are a decent airline, not the best I agree but they provide a decent service on the whole. People who dont like it are free to fly elsewhere

I used to shop mainly in Sainsburys, occasionally in Waitrose but during the start of the pandemic, Waitrose was the only one I could get a delivery slot with and I continue to shop online with them to show loyalty to them for that. Im sure there is the equivalent of me who favours Sainsburys over Waitrose for exactly the same reason in reverse. We on here are a small sub section of people who care about points etc but the vast majority of the population doesn’t care which is why the various companies dont feel the need to make the various schemes/offers etc too good. People will food shop and fly regardless

I try and take advantage of as many opportunities as I can (like he rest of us on here) but at the end of the day why do the companies care about a few people saying the offers are not as good?
