14th February 2022 at 15:19 in reply to: Lounge access with HSBC WE supplementary card?sloth 449 posts
I had always understood (and it’s in our review today) that supplementary cards on the HSBC World Elite Mastercard got the free lounge access. After all, they are charging you £60 for the card so you’d expect some benefits.
A reader dropped me an email today to say that he was recently charged after doing this in a lounge. It is possible that the lounge processed it incorrectly (ie only swiped one card and put down 2 people, which would trigger a £20 charge) but the reader says that both cards were swiped and the supp triggered the £20 fee.
Does anyone have any recent experience of using a HSBC WE supp in a lounge? Thanks.
obviously more crap HSBC IT, as yes thats my understanding and is what their website says. Didn’t they query this directly with HSBC?
currently going through the pain of adding a supp to my WE, purely for the extra lounge access, but wondering if I want the additional pain of chasing them up…

Does anyone know if the Waitrose in Canary Wharf counts as waitrose or JL as I think upstairs is. JL.
Upstairs is JL, downstairs is Waitrose

All members of the HfP team get a supplementary Business Platinum card (£285 per year) as what passes for staff perks so they get lounge access, hotel status cards etc.
Just thinking out loud, it looks like a very good perk for employees – rather than force employees to spend an amount on a handful of ‘health & wellbeing’ merchants.
I guess it comes with car hire insurance and travel insurance too. That’s a perk many employees will be happy to have.Does the travel and car insurance on Amex Business cards cover personal travel?

Checked Wimbledon and Mitcham stores for Amazon gift cards. Both had none!
Anyone had any recent success?
Yes, loads at my local Morrisons in Manchester this week. Bought a few hundred, all activated fine and tracked through to Virgin CC cashback. Hasn’t tracked to PAW after 2 days though.
PAW didn’t track for me either back in December…had to chase them a number of times, but they eventually manually credited the missing points tbf to them

The terms of the 20% discounts always state it is for cash or ‘cash and points’ bookings. They aren’t supposed to work on points prices. I see for two adults for those dates 56k room only or 72k b&b. There are the standard rates for the reward availability for the room. Where there are no rooms at the standard redemption rates it goes to that dynamic pricing thing where it’s purely based on the cash price times a multiplier. I have found in the past the 20% discount did sometimes apply on points only rates (when it shouldn’t), but only ever on the more expensive dynamic pricing rates. It’s never worked to take anything off the fixed rates.
Thanks very much for the explanation, I have definitely used it on points only bookings in the past but what you say makes sense so perhaps I was just lucky previously. Thanks again for checking

maybe it is that there is a new barclaycard coming with a partner Barclays has an existing relationship with??
(and you can only hold one barclaycard card?)it is possible to hold more than 1 barclaycard although they dont really like and I feel you may be correct

It works fine with curve and nsi but no longer use it due to the creation issues. You can also use it for cash withdrawals via curve but I only ever did small amounts very occasionally
I’m assuming you are asking in preparation for a new Barclays/ avios credit card?

Is Switching from Barclays Blue Rewards to Avios Rewards possible online or on the app ? Understand no sign-up bonus but monthly 1500 avios plus voucher still seems good value.

Yikes, I realised I am in the same boat as you as well and will also be downgrading. Going to call them and will report back with an update.
Replying to myself here…
So far have spoken to 3 different people and have been on the phone a good 40mins, 38 minutes of which has been on hold.
Are HSBC really this bad? I know they’ve had some issues with staff, but not knowing what their own processes or procedures are is really pathetic for a Premier product. The first person I spoke to couldn’t distinguish between “downgrade” and “download”!!
they are appalling tbh, 99% dont know their a** from their elbow and is in no way a premier experience. I did eventually speak to someone based at HSBC Malta who was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and full of common sense. definitely an outlier tho

30th December 2021 at 13:13 in reply to: American Express £200 Platinum dining credit – Expires 31/12/21sloth 449 posts
Firmly have to ask for a large goodwill gesture after the offer ends (you could use the offer proper up until it expires and get double) but that means you’ve then missed out £200 free if they flatly refuse.
so this is exactly why its harder to get amex to manually apply credits…

It says on their site that it takes 10 days to track as pending, but sometimes takes a bit later.
agreed, not panicking just yet… just wondered on others’ experience since its my first time with in store rewards

thanks for answer, no the card is not registered against anything else apart from Natwest rewards so hopefully that is not causing the issue…

The general fabulousness of slapping down a Centurion card after lunch at The Wolseley is worth the annual fee alone.
Guessing it has less cache with Joan behind the counter in Greggs…

Any idea if this will affect the Avios rewards account? Given that the title mentions ‘Avios’, thought it was worth posing the question.
Not atm but would have thought either the earning rate will worsen or the monthly fee will increase next year. Either way I think I will take my upgrade voucher in March and then shut then account as I don’t see that much value anymore and will hope I can reopen 6/12 months later for a bonus (didn’t get one this time as already had the account)

Genuine question…what benefits do you envisage using on the Centurion card that would justify the joining and annual fees? Not knocking you getting one, I’m genuinely curious?
