Morning all. Can anyone recommend 1E&F front row centre pair on 777 in CS, or is it best avoided due to noise from the galley? Have read conflicting reports!

I noticed the Be Relax spa in T5B no longer appears as an on my (HSBC) Priority Pass. Has it been removed or has the place shut up shop for good? P2 will be very disappointed!

I don’t see why OTB has anything to do with this when there was a poster on this very forum not so long ago gleefully sharing how they don’t buy insurance, and prefer to take their chances. Regular contributors may recall the thread…

Morning all – any experience with booking through Luxury Escapes? They currently have a good value offer at the Island Shangri-La in HK that covers my dates next month… very tempted to shift my booking from the GH.

p.s. If anyone has a referral discount code, feel free to share it!

Can only echo how good HSBC are for putting it right when they get it wrong.

About 10 years ago they sent me a non-contactless debit card. I asked (not complained) if they would send a contactless one instead, which they did, and included a case of wine for the trouble.

Anyway, no 25% extra here either.

You are spoiled for choice for 5 star properties in KL. I wouldn’t recommend the FS, feels more like a luxury office block rather than a hotel. The service is completely unremarkable. Given it’s notably more expensive than the likes of the MO, I don’t see the premium as worth it. Nice bar though with fantastic cocktails.

    I really like the GH.

@ Vinz you have given specific details of the flight which you are holding multiple seats on ,I’ve feedback this to BA as like others I find this behaviour totally unacceptable

This must be a wind up, surely 😀

Thanks all. Still no decision made but much clearer on the options now.

Most aitlines have multiple daily departures so with the BA flights leaving in the ‘witching hour’ I’d not be too worried with a same day connection. I’d be mire worried about typhoons than flights-related issues.

There’s actually only 3 direct flights on the 12th, and 4 on the 13th, one of which will arrive too late. And a typhoon seems like a great way to get a flight related issue!

Depending on whether you’re staying on Kowloon side or HK Island you could stay on the other on your return. I see that there is now a Fullerton on the south side of the island.

We’ve booked the GH, so a night on the Kowloon side could be an option.

Offered and accepted 10k for £3000 in 3 months. I am about 1 month away from renewal and have already used the 241

Yes, I’ve done this by just re-triggering the offer/promotion for another year (I think through the Regus account)

    Is this the Westlake?
Looks to me like the basic room is there same size but costs over £60 less per night. Is the lounge access really worth paying that much more for?

I actually began with the Junior Suite which is only a little extra but afaik doesn’t include club access.

You are likely correct, but I figured I would at least secure the rate while I weigh up the options. The Melia looks smart, although it looks like I can’t quite manage your rate for my dates.

I used one of my 20% vouchers (for being gold status thanks to the Amex platinum) and booking through the app deducts 5%. I think that’s an overall discount of 24%

Thank you for the tip re: app!

Having used this a few times over the years, surprised to see it’s still valid. Just booked 3 nights in August, at the IC Hanoi (of all places) in a Club room for about £160 a night.

Can’t be done, apparently, for the reasons stated:

    – without the 241 that J availability is not accessible.
    – 50% avios refund applies only to the case of outbound booked before inbound is available.

There are several instances here where readers have reported that BA agents can indeed see the extra availability for the inbound leg, without the voucher.

Indeed, and the agent knew exactly what I was trying to do and did get as far as ‘looking’ for the flights, apparently unsuccessfully. But I can only report what I was told. Who knows what specific set of circumstances might affect this. I might HUACA but I really find dealing with this sort of stuff with BA very stress inducing!

In case helpful, this is where Rob wrote about the HKG quirk, but he suggests making the full payment with Avios and then calling for the refund. Let us know if you manage to skip that step and have the agent book your one-way HKG-LHR-NCL with the voucher!

Oops, missed this response to my query. Yes, this is exactly what I would do, except I can’t, because the return availability disappears without the 241, due to the extra flights it opens up. It’s specifically a 241 extra availability problem, not a 50%-avios-return problem

The surcharge difference is £400 so not insignificant.

I am on hold with the exec club line as I type, so will report back soon…

I see this has now made it to the front page on hotukdeals, where the crowd seems divided between either: those contemplating spending several thousand pounds without knowing what kind of return they will get, and those absolutely convinced Avios is a waste of time 🙄

    smblcklck 70 posts

Pretty much, yes. Heat we can handle, likewise a bit of rain. I think torrential downpours would rather spoil things though.

Early-mid August might strike the balance?

    smblcklck 70 posts

I vaguely recall something about the taxes being lower if you book online, which is peculiar to HKG.

Yes, a few hundred quid cheaper because of the HKG tax quirk.

Sounds like I might need to find a helpful telephone agent….

So obviously using an amex 241 voucher opens up extra award availability for CW.
If I book the outbound using the voucher only and then book return separately without the voucher (before calling yo to get avios refund), the issue is the return availability disappears as I wouldn’t be using the voucher and the extra availability isnt there…does that make sense??
    Any way around this?
Could I just call ba and ask them to book me both the outbound and return using the 241? Will they then price HKG with lowers taxes accordingly??

I’ve searched but I can’t see a direct answer to this. I have this exact situation currently.

I can find plenty of availability NCL-LHR-HKG-LHR-NCL later this year thanks to the extra award availability offered by the 241, but as noted trying to book two one-ways (to save on taxes) doesn’t work. If I call, can they book two one ways and still ‘see’ the extra availability? Thanks
