I had exactly the same issue for family of 4 upper class tickets
After a lot of toing anf froing and my quoting the Eu261 rules + CAA guidance etc they agreed to my proposal of rebooking on Cathay. Live chat was useless but to be fair the CEO email team were very quick to respond.Sprout
We had a very enjoyable week in October travelling from Malaga to Granada then Cordoba then Seville and finally flew back from Malaga. We hired a car to travel between the cities as it worked out cheaper than the train. Awful lot to see and do with excellent reasonably priced food and drink.
We looked at a day trip from Seville to Jerez which was quite easy but didn’t have quite enough time.I am assuming the weather will be warm in Feb (it was high 20’s in mid Oct!)

From my experience, there doesn’t seem to be any limit to the number of payments I make per month. I regularly spend more than my credit limit by paying off as I go.

Thanks @JDB.
I have just spoken to the CEDR people and they don’t work with Virgin. They have directed me to a body called ADR. Looking on their website, they have a limit of £25k per claim so all should be good on that front.Sprout
Thanks for the reply both. At the moment I am corresponding by e-mail rather than telephone with the executive team. I guess if this doesn’t resolve the issue I could write to the CEO and then follow the CEDR course of action proposed by @JDB.
If I go down the CEDR route what (positive) outcome could I expect? If I demonstrate equivalent flights are available for sale at £4k each would I be asking for them to provide these flights or would I be asking for £16k cash which would be capped at £10k. (which I could use to purchase alternative flights of my choosing)
Many thanksSprout
Thought I’d give a quick update on my progress so far in trying to get my upper-class flights rerouted..
– Initially I was offered a refund
– I asked for a rerouting and proposed 2 alternatives
– They have responded by offering me flights on KLM or Air France which are economy and with a connection in CDG or AMS. They say there are issues with the category of flights I have booked (which were reward tickets)
– I asked them to fulfill their EU261 obligations by giving me “comparable” options on alternative carriers.
– They have checked with a manager and confirmed they have met their obligation as alternative carriers are KLM and AF and any flight satisfies the requirement of “comparable”.
– I have countered by quoting them the CAA definition of “comparable” in CAP2155 and highlighting direct business class flights that are available from HKG on the same day operated by BA and CP.
– I await their response!I suspect I’m going to need to take some formal action and have been reading up on the various threads here. So, firstly a big thanks to those contributors (@LadyLondon, @beardyshuhz, @JDB, @Jon and others) without which I wouldn’t have even bothered going this far and would have taken a refund.
I have no legal experience but hate the thought of these types of practices denying people what they are entitled to. So this may be (probably is) a naive question but is it possible for me to follow a CEDR process without having purchased alternative flights? I don’t have the funds to purchase flights and then risk not being able to get the money back at the end of the process.
Thanks allSprout
@NorthernLass – Yes Virgin is the carrier. Thank you for the pointer I’ll read up on EU/UK261. It might even work out to be advantageous to us with a bit of luck. Thanks again

Damn. I’ve got 4 one way upper class reward flights from HKG to LHR in March next year.
We are spending 2/3 weeks in Vietnam and this was to be our return leg.
Reading the announcement below:“anyone booked to travel from March 2023, will be offered a refund, voucher or the option to rebook on an alternative Virgin Atlantic route.”
I’m sure I’ll find out in time, but does anyone know what options might be for a rewards booking (as opposed to cash)? I’d be happy to return from a different city in the Far east but as far as I can tell Virgin only fly from Shanghai. Is there any likelihood (obligation) of them offering us seats on a different airline?
Any advice would be appreciated.28th September 2022 at 07:45 in reply to: Upgrade Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card to PlatinumSprout
@Aston, @Luke My datapoint is upgrading from ARCC to Platinum. I don’t have a gold card

@Rum, card was received about 3 days later. I went on chat the following day and they manually added the 3 additional offers. I spent the £4k over the following week and the additional 40k points are showing in my account today. I didn’t have to contact them to chase the points they were automatically showing.
Hope that helps.15th September 2022 at 07:42 in reply to: Upgrade Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card to PlatinumSprout
Thank you for the comments regarding my query above.
@Rum i followed the link yesterday and successfully upgraded my ARCC card to Platinum. It went thru’ immediately and the new card was reflected in my acccount and my substantial pile of points were unaffected. I subsequently received an email confirming the upgrade. There is no sign of the Platinum offers nor mention of the 40k points bonus. My plan is to give it a couple of days and contact Amex via chat regarding the offers. I will make the £4k spend and then query the 40k points if they don’t appear. (as per @Carlos a few weeks ago)
Regarding the downgrade – if it isn’t possible I guess I will just apply for the ARCC again before cancelling the Platinum.12th September 2022 at 11:33 in reply to: Upgrade Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card to PlatinumSprout
Apologies, I’m just catching up with this thread.
I currently have the arcc which I am holding to protect a significant balance of reward points.
Is there any risk to this balance if I attempt to upgrade to platinum?
I was going to apply separately for the card as I want to utilise the benefits on some upcoming trips (I’m not eligible for any sign up bonuses) but definitely don’t want to risk wiping out my balance.
Would it also be possible to subsequently downgrade to the arcc and maintain the balance?
ThanksSprout
Just been looking at redemption options for hotels and airlines. Are all schemes 2:1? Are there any sweets spots / no gos when compared to other earners like Amex?
Dunno if Far east appeals to you? I tranferred 400k to Krisflyer and got 4 one way business flights from Ist to Han on Singapore air (including connectinon in Sin) plus about £120 in taxes. I think you can alos get good redemption opportiunities to Dubai (but shopping mall in the desert doesn’t interest me :-))
Coming back from HKG on Virgin, again 4 business flights + couple of vouchers for about 200k points and @$100 taxes.
I’m feeling quite pleased with myself!Sprout
I have no idea why anyone would want to pay Curve £150 a year for MS benefits that are reducing at an astounding rate!
I have no idea why anybody wouldn’t want to. Annual costs covered in month 1 = 11 months pure profit! No brainer.

Hi BJ, do you have any example date ranges and locations (Other than NYC as mentioned by others above)?
I ask because I’m not seeing anything different for SE Asia in UK school holidays next year.Thanks.
Agreed. The stays I have next year in Vietnam are either the same or more expensive.

Can you book a room on points for someone else?
Yep, I’ve done it several times. You can ring up afterwards and tell them the name of the person (although I’m not sure they are that bothered)

I have 2 rooms booked for a few nights on points at an intercontinental. If I sign up for ambassador would both rooms be upgraded or just one?
Sprout
App hasnt shown points for a while now (used to, why remove the visibility), and last statement not having a points earned/summary. So you now have to login to the website to check your points balance has gone up.
Apologies if you’re already aware…
You can see your last few points per transaction details on the website by clicking on “points balance” and then “spend points” and scolling to the bottom.
I’m not sure if this is new but I’ve only just noticed it anyway!Sprout
Did it apply to all transfers or to specific airlines?

I can confirm that topping up Revolut with the Barclaycard Avois Mastercard incurred a cash advance fee.
Tested with a £10 deposit which resulted in an additional £2.99 cash transaction fee.
Posting as thought it may be useful to know!
Does this show up immediately or when the statement is issued? thanks
Sprout
OK thanks. I was trying to see if there were any offers on for Morrisons in store at the moment. There seem to be offers from flying club and airtime that have been stackable with this in the past.
