There will be no fixed compo due, but I would’ve thought the cost of your day room + 1 free night comp’d would be proportionate.

My prior experience with FH&R bookings have all been “pay on depature rates”. In all instances I have attempted to pay with a more suitable card (ICs with my old IHG CC, or others cards that do not attract Fx fees) and the hotel has insisted on being paid by Amex, but I have on a few occassions used a Green EUR Amex.

Even with the new “pre-paid” rates the hotel will need to take a card, to allow you to bill stuff to the room (otherwise you will struggle to use the €100 F&B credit). Given it is a pre-paid rate, the hotel may not care which card you hand over in this instance, and I would suspect any Amex would do.

Many hotel chains around the world have a policy of insisting upon seeing the card that the booking was made with to verify your ID. So, depending on the hotel you may need to show the Amex Plat.

The other option worth considering is seeing whether Emyr at Bon Vivant can get you similar benefits via his luxury travel agency at the same hotel. That would escape the need for using FH&R or your Amex.

My favourite two uses for Amex are:

    – Council Tax: Some councils permit you to pay by card using Payment Card which works at PayPoint locations. Many Coops permit you to pay the council tax bills via PayPoint using Amex. Remember to cancel your DD.

    – Energy Bills: Some gas and electric companies permit you to pre-pay/top-up your account via Amex payments. Ring and ask. Remeber to get your DD adjusted if you put substantial sums through.

I would guess most people’s bills will be pushing £5k pa for both of those combined over the next 12 months. So, subject to having suitable savings, you should easily hit your £6k limit by pre-paying for your annual Council Tax and Energy Bills. Stick in some gift cards for Amazon and [INSERT YOUR CHOICE OF SUPERMARKET HERE] and hey presto 60k MR report points are yours before you can say “flexible friend”.

I stayed in the INNSIDE New York NOMAD in September 2019. Found it to be an excellent location, very smart hotel and reasonably priced (in comparison). You should be able to leverage a 20% discount from your Meliá Gold status that comes with the Plat.

And I missed this because I took Mrs Froggee, Kermit and Freddo to the dentist and waited outside in the phishing rain. All sold out. Tonight, we eat gruel.

Ah you use the Butcher of Leith Walk as well I see!!!

but if I were to join Ambassador would this extend my current Diamond status (currently due to expire end of Dec’22), and if so, when to?

Worked for me, extended my Diamond to 31/12/2023.

In Edinburgh they sub-contract. Twice in the last 4 months I have pre-booked (approx. 1 week in advance) an airport taxi (home to EDI). On both occassions the driver has failed to turn-up, AL customers services have left me on the phone for 10 minutes+ (time is generally of the essence) and then agreed to cancel the reservation with no charge. However, on both occassions they have subsequently charged me. On both occassions I’ve received grovelling apologies anda full refund but it is a useless Amex Plat offer with a company that does the Amex Plat brand no good at all.

    British airways: 1.4/5

To be fair, that appears to be a reasonable assessment of BA over the last few years.

Stayed at the Willard a few years ago using the Ambassador Free Night voucher. They took the voucher and forgot to bill the night. It was a wonderful hotel, and would’ve been even if we had paid for the first night.

If it was really French, would it not have to be called Ouicapade?

This is what I needed in my life today 😀

One question does renewing (as opposed to joining) Ambassador extended diamond status for another year anyone?

It did for me, and I believe there is a thread somewhere in the forums where others have confirmed the same.

There’s some fun in finding situations where a Saturday night is much pricier than Friday, but only paying for Friday.

I feel like I have not got full value from my voucher if I don’t do this!

I’ve never had any issues trying to book the Ambassador Free Night (well except in 2020 and H1 2021 for obvious reasons) and my general Ambassador experiences have invariably been excellent (and when not excellent they’ve still been positive).

If you plan to book the Ambassador Free Night voucher and append IHG Redemption nights to it, my tip would be to book a higher class of room using the Ambassador Free Night Voucher (e.g. a room that permits lounge access) and then book the Redemption night(s) after it… invariable you end up staying in the same room and retaining the priviledges that come with it.

My other tip, is when not using the Free Night voucher or a redemption, try to book ICs via Amex F&HR or Emyr’s booking service. In my experience, the benefits will usually stack with the Amabassador benefits.

£100.55 spent on 1 August at Beerhawk. £20 credited on 7 August

Thanks Bill, I’d forgot BH take PayPal. When the Oktoberfestbier kegs coming soon, I think I’ve found use for my statement credits.

Took it up and same, no points

    – emailed Virgin Wines and got this response, “The points were added on your account on 20/07 – it can take up to 30 days for you to see if from your side – if the 30 days passes and you still cannot see this, please contact Virgin Red.”

Not sure why the terms of the offer stated 21 days if that was the case but so be it.

We flew EDIMUC on 23rd July. Security queue looked to 15-20 minutes max at 8.30AM (we went through Fast Track, which 4-5 minutes). New Aspire Lounge had a queue and was not accepting PP Walk Ups. However, they informed us that Old Aspire was opening at 9AM and would be accepting PP Walk Ups. We were first in line and got in no problem.

    Abroad Dining Credit Experience –

My wife and I used the Abroad Dining Credit at Meissl & Schadn in Salzburg on 26-Jul. Immediately received email confirming use of the credit upon payment. Credit for the full value of the transaction, including tip, appeared on my statement today but dated 29-Jul.

Meissl & Schadn was very pleasant, if a little touristy. My wife enjoyed her Tartare and Paprika Chicken. My Bouillon and Schnitzel courses were delicious.

Flying EDIMUC today. Both Aspire lounges have been showing as Unavailable all week for this morning. On getting though security at 08.30 this morning to the Aspire Lounge at Gate 14. There was a queue any they were only accepting pre-books.

However, they advised that the Gate 4 Lounge was opening at 09.00, and even though the Aspire website was showing it as Unavailable to pre-book all week, it was accepting Walk-Ups with PP.

So I wouldn’t rely upon the availability of the Aspire website to determine availability at the airport.

Has anybody got an indication of when the credit will be made available on the Offers pages?

    Supergers49

Went on live chat today. Stated that I had been refused entry to lounges several times recently (devaluing the PP), the cashback offers had been poor for months, and that I have a pre-existing condition which devalues the travel insurance. I requested a reduction in the annual fee or other incentive to retain the card. The initial chat agent was diabolical but once they finally put me through to retentions a 35k retention bonus was offerred. This is the second one I have had in 18 months. Plus I have previously chosen to pay the card fee monthly.

Plus they stated in the live chat that 35k MR points is worth £157!
