FYI I have just got a “payment card” from Thames Water and used a Co-op near my office in central London to add £500 to our account which should hopefully last a year but gets me a bit closer to the next points bonus
It’ll last 5 minutes when Thames Water put their prices up. Again.

Radisson. That’s an interesting thought. I’m only Gold Elite. But you’re right, alcohol cheap, as I’m assuming is food. Choices, choices. Really need to decide on whether it’s worth the pain of going to the not first choice hotel in pursuit of status or not – and if so which to chase. I have (literally) millions of Hilton Honors points but often I’m disappointed with their product 🤷
(credit card, obviously, before anyone asks…)

Amex completely broken this morning. All statment entries show $nan as the value
Mine all working fine.

Mine shows total in household account, not total in individual account. Never looked before, but that seems odd to me.

DT doesn’t have a lounge, at least it didn’t 6 years ago and can’t see anything online to indicate that it does now.
Location is not central but I walked to and from the train and bus station.
Oops. Seems you’re right – thanks for pointing that out! Not sure what I was thinking. Getting confused with the Vienna Hiltons I was looking at no doubt. Likely to do an overnight there. Maybe by boat…

Noooooo Ryanair? Or Wizz?
Ryannair. Travelling alone, small bag under seat, airport nearby. I’m becoming a bit of a Ryannair fan alongside business/first when travelling with family. My dirty secret…

@JDB, losses would be indirect due to inability to use as a debit card eg fronted. But hardly a case for a claim. I too am confused however as to how they could switch you from a debit card to a credit card without your agreement. Hey ho, as you say they’re a law unto themselves…

Have you considered Airbnb? Or going hardcore and just partying for 48 hours (no room required…).

Have you looked at points pricing? Can be very economical when money prices high. And then buy the points (assuming you don’t have).

One day the Curve point printing machine will be no more. Every thread like this is another selfish nail in its coffin. Work these things out for yourself. It’s really not that hard.

The flypast flies directly over my house on its route down to London. Always amazing. All welcome to watch from the garden !!

Possibly not at MAN, but at STN even when it does this (and it does…) you can show up and go on a waitlist. My wait has always been very short. I might just be lucky of course…

I’ve opened ARCC to retain MR points in the past like I’m sure many others on here have. No problem. One example: Gold -> ARCC -> Platinum. I can’t believe the terms have changed. Have you dug these out and read them?!

It’s not about a free night. It’s about doing the right thing. And the right thing is for the hotel not to ask you to pay for the night – as a bare minimum I’d say. I’m principled that way, so would be pretty adamant about it. Not wanting all along anything for free but just what I paid for – recognising simultaneously things go wrong and they aren’t necessarily anyone’s fault. I think we can hold all those things in ours minds at the same time?!

I’d definitely ask for the night to be comped. Impressed you managed to stay calm.

Just picking this post up. Widening the question. Indigo looks good. But seem to be plethora of hotels. Any other thoughts? Top tier Hilton & Radisson so that helps. Like many no only platinum IHG…

Woken up to a new offer from Hedonism Wines on my Amex. Spend £350 get £50 back. Brings Conti DRC Three Magnum OWC 2009 down from an extortionate £195,000 to a far more reasonable £194,950. I’m in. If anyone else is interested I’d check you Amex offers. At this price they won’t be around for long…

Have you tried asking Virgin?

There’s a whole section on credit cards on this site. Read that? 🤷
Swiss Jim 400 posts
Very foolish. I do feel sorry for you to be honest as we’ve all been there. If you tell Amex you were avoiding the £195 there’s no way I’d show any mercy. I’d suggest your best option is to say you forgot to move them out to Avios, IHG, Hilton etc (as you wish). And ask them very politely. Or say you’re happy to open a Gold card and pay the annual fee for that. That way there’s maybe a small chance you’ll come across a very kind agent on one of their good days…,

All sorted ! Now have a debit card. I’m assuming the suggestion all new applicants get a credit card now is correct, but who knows. My new card takes me to 2028 – though I’ve no confidence it won’t get withdrawn by then. Fingers crossed.
Oh, and I must remember not to lose it..

Would a transfer from one finnair member to another count as “activity“?
Yes, it seems to. Just checked my account and I had 50,000 Avios that based on all the above should have expired. But for my account receiving Avios from OH’s account. Seems I may have got lucky. Now to transfer 1000 MR points in (and the 50,000 out just to be sure). Wondering if I should hold all Avios balances in BA given instant transfers.
9th April 2025 at 22:06 in reply to: Finnair Plus Avios expired after transfer from BAEC — no warningSwiss Jim 400 posts
Totally agree / that’s never been where my mind was. But Finnair’s position unless I’m misunderstanding is if no activity for 18 months – and transfers don’t count – then any Avios transferred in will evaporate after 10 days. That can’t be right. I’ll look at tomorrow…
