    Thank you all! Much appreciated.

I’d normally be keen to take a train as I agree it’s more reliable and no issue with traffic that way, but am a bit cautious to take public transport there right now as it isn’t very safe at the moment 🙁

Hello – I’m a vegetarian as well and I’ve been looking at the options to see where I’d actually be able to eat! Thinking of doing the exact same thing with another plat-holder friend – a night in Paris using Eurostar points and eating with the credit.

I haven’t been to this place but judging from the reviews it looks quite good and the menu works for me: Restaurant de l’Hôtel des Grands Boulevards. I’d personally go for their weekend buffet brunch (€38) and the lunch/dinner menus do have a couple of vegetarian options.

I’ve heard the same re staying at the Fairmont too. Although I don’t think the location is bad at all, also considering how small Monaco is, you can probably get to wherever you need to be in a matter of minutes!

I would recommend going to their L’Horizon Deck rooftop restaurant for breakfast or their brunch buffet. They have tables on the terrace looking onto the sea and it’s just wonderful. I make sure to go at least once every time I visit the south of France!

Also just an FYI if it’s your first time to Monaco – Uber doesn’t work in Monaco so if you’re looking to get from Monaco to France you’d have to take the bus or train, or a private taxi.

Way back I think I can get a Ryanair flight which doesn’t worry me, more concerned about getting there !

Noted. If we get anyone looking to sell over the weekend we’ll email you via your forum email address.

Hi Rob, please could you add me to this list if you get any cancellations over the weekend? Looking for one ticket.

I remember right after things started opening up again in London last year, it was quite difficult to get an Uber and I had to keep trying several times (with Bolt too). But nowadays I’ve not experienced any issues at all so am surprised to read the above… in fact a couple of times recently I ordered an Uber and it arrived in less than a minute which was a surprise! admittedly no experience with using them for airport rides though.

I am genuinely confused as to why Amex Platinum and Centurion offer and continuously promote Ad Lee credit as a benefit – surely they must know how awful AL are and that most people can’t get bookings, even weeks in advance? The trust pilot reviews pretty much sum the AL situation up. Seems odd to me that Amex would choose to associate with a company like AL given how useless it’s become.

Someone mentioned other cab companies are having driver shortages but when I request an Uber I get one every single time no issues… wishful thinking but would be great if Amex could switch the credit to Uber instead!

I don’t think anyone will actually be affected as none of us can even get a booking with them anyway ha ha

They still seem to be releasing new seats in First- just bagged two for ORD in August. Had been tracking this daily.

Which service are you using to track this daily? RewardFlightFinder dot com? Or is there a better one? Also, is there an equivalent service for Virgin?

I’ve been out of the game for a while and looking to optimise how I bag some Avios/Virgin redemptions…

I highly recommend Seat Spy! Saves so much time.

That’s great! Hopefully they’ll do the same for NY…

    T_London

    Wow thanks so much both!

I’m not massively affected by the strike action either however I would also agree that a postponement is a good idea. Would be a real shame for a HFP event as wonderful and rare as this to be half empty.

Hi all – did anyone buy a gift card online and receive the credit? I need to use this offer soon and I think buying a GC is the easiest option, but don’t want to it it’s likely to not track.

    Thanks!

By “app” they mean “Amex Experiences” app, not the regular amex app.

Yes I meant Amex Experiences! The events are now showing on it 🙂

Also on Broadway we saw Mrs Doubtfire which was excellent. If you like the film I’d recommend seeing that. Top of the Rock is a typical tourist attraction but honestly so worth it – try to go at sunset! But honestly the best activity is walking around!

    Hi TJ!

I go to NY a couple of times each year and have some recommendations for food – I disagree with the person above who said the restaurants aren’t that good.

I’d recommend Olio e Piu Italian restaurant – popular with locals and nice atmosphere, for a New York slice you must visit Joe’s Pizza (many locations), for a New York chunky cookie you need to go to Chip City – absolutely divine (many locations). Clement restaurant at the Peninsula is lovely for breakfast, and something more casual would be Carnegie Diner which has a very extensive menu and they do unlimited mimosas for 2 hours at $19.95 I believe – that was a lot of fun! I have been to Ellens’s stardust diner as mentioned above but do check out videos of a dining experience here before you decide to go – it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Max Brenner cafe is a must visit if you are a big fan of chocolate – try their fondue.
If you want to go somewhere with a buzzy atmosphere at night check out TAO downtown. Polo Bar is also nice and upscale with a quieter vibe. Cipriani (downtown) has delicious food but a slightly pretentious atmosphere as with many Cipriani locations. Worth it though. Bluestone Lane is a nice casual brunch place. If you go to Brooklyn try the Cecconi’s Dumbo it’s wonderful, as are the views of Manhattan from Dumbo in general.

The way things are right now, please do avoid using the subway where possible. It is alright in the daytime but absolutely should be avoided at night especially when alone. The state of the subway has worsened in recent months – feel free to do a google search on it for more context but please try and walk or Lyft/Uber where possible. Weather will be nice when you’re there so hopefully you’ll want to walk around! I was warned about the subway before going and quickly understood why.

Another thing, unless your taxi back to the airport has already been prebooked or something, please allow a lot of time to get one. I almost missed my flight because there were no cabs available or accepting my app requests due to high demand at the time of day.

I hope you have an amazing time!

Thank you for your advice and well wishes!

Regarding the flight on Friday – it was a one way booking I made on its own, as my flight into the US was with Virgin Atlantic to D.C. So would that mean I’d get a refund even though it says voucher? I really don’t want a voucher.

I’d happily book the JFK RFS but I’m working remotely during the week, on UK time, so I’d only be able to take the evening flights! Many thanks for checking though.

The Fumoir at Claridge’s has got to be one of my favourites! Annoyingly you can’t reserve a table though. I also think the Coral Room at The Bloomsbury is lovely.

I used Breathe Assured – they were incredible! Excellent customer service. You can have a supervised virtual appointment with a nurse, and they won’t leave the call until you have received your certificate in your inbox.

Actually, I decided to test this, I’ve bought a £25 (the minimum) GC and will see if the credit appears in time for the end of the year (when I did an in-person transaction at Aster in London, the credit appeared 5 days later). If the credit appears I’ll buy the other £95 online, if not I’ll traipse into town to buy a GC in person

Please keep us updated on this! If it works for you I’ll do the same as I have around £80 left to use.
