Anyone else not yet received the 1500 joining bonus and the 1500 HfP bonus? I’ve not received either yet.

    TerryTierPoints

I got this too. Presumably it will be a derisory number of avios, but with the vouchers piling up still a nice alternative

Why should it be a “derisory number of Avios”? Barclays has been quite absurdly generous thus far.

I guess my logic would be that they have been very generous on the sign-up bonuses but wouldn’t be able to afford to continue with that level of generosity for an annual reward like this otherwise the card will be loss-making.

At a very rough guess, maybe the economics look like this. The annual fee is £240. Let’s say they want to give 75% of that back to customers, that’s £180 to play with. I don’t know how much they pay BA for the avios – maybe 0.5p/avios? Then if the average customer is spending £1,500 per month, that’s 1,500 x 1.5 avios/£ x 12 months x £0.005 per avios is £135 given back already, leaving £180 – £135 = £45 for the annual reward, which would then be 9,000 avios.

The annual fee is £144, right? This is for the Barclays premier current account, not the Mastercard. In fact the annual fee is £84 after Dual Avios Reward.

How many Avios do we save using the Cabin Upgrade Voucher on say LON – NYC return? 48K, did I get that right? I’m probably dreaming but I’d swap the voucher for 48K Avios!

Thanks everyone for posting your experiences, I’ve no plans to book with my Cabin Upgrade Voucher just yet. When I do I’ll almost certainly need a domestic connection. I’ll report back when I do book.

Still confused 🤣 does a domestic connection to long haul require additional Avios? Or is Cabin Upgrade Voucher same as 241 for domestic connection? Or does it depend which phone agent you get. Previously @northernlass was adamant domestics were a rip off to add.

I confirmed with BA that there is no free domestic connection.
Rubbish as I’m based in central Scotland.
Was the lack of domestic connection in the original HfP articles? I don’t recall seeing that.
Anyway probably dump the premier account now and downgrade to the free Barclaycard to earn a few Avios where AMEX is not accepted.

Yup disappointing that there is no discussion on domestic connections in this article:

Yep, when I activated, I added a reminder to my calendar for activation + 120 days to check for the sign up bonus and to cancel my card.

    TerryTierPoints

@facelikefizz I’m actually in the opposite scenario.

I have Barclays Premier + Travel Pack and Barclaycard Avios Plus. Now that I’ve triggered the joining bonuses and vouchers I’m considering moving. I like the Premier Travel Pack benefits and ongoing Avios collection but the Barclays app, online banking and customer service are atrocious.

Before your post I didn’t realise it was possible to collect Avios with RBS. How do you find the RBS Premier Black app, online banking and customer service?

Maybe RBS Premier Black, Amex BAPP and regular Barclaycard Avios (for retailers that don’t access Amex) might be a good combination.

an equivalent policy with LV is £330

Check out the Barclays travel packs for a cheaper option.

I used Curve standard on holiday in May to avoid Barclaycard FX fees and have had no issue.

It’s now over 9 weeks since I complained to Barlcays about missing Dual Rewards. I’ve had no response except 4 letters saying they are still investigating so I’ve now referred my complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service. It’s a shame I’ve had to do this about something that should be trivial for Barclays to resolve.

Seems to be hit and miss. I had my £5 credit without any prompting.

I’ve automatically gotten my last two.

Looking at previous statements, I haven’t gotten my first two months. Personally, I don’t think it’s worth the effort to complain about such a small amount.

Barclays called today, almost 10 weeks after my complaint. The lady said she was new in the role and came across as quite nervous, maybe she’d come off a previous call with an angry customer. Anyway she said glitches happen and she would pay the missing Dual Rewards into my account. No sign of the missing rewards yet.

Yeah probably not worth the time complaining about two missing rewards. At the time I complained, I’d received none and the chat agent said I wasn’t eligible.

in reply to: Barclays App / Online Banking Unusable?
    TerryTierPoints

It seems that generally the app works fine for most people and is no better or worse than comparable ones such as Amex

Way worse than Amex, in my experience. In all the time I’ve had Amex, the website and app have always been responsive and Amex has never ever thrown an error. I’ve had 100+ errors in the short few months I’ve been a Barclays customer. Based on the amount of complaints on this forum and others I get the impression Barclays IT is generally much worse than other banks.

Recently opened a Chase account, the Chase IT seems flawless too.

No Dual Reward for me this month either. I received a letter saying Barclays want until end of May to investigate my complaint.

in reply to: Additional 5K points
    TerryTierPoints

There are about 3 different threads discussing this at the moment!

Aren’t they discussing the HfP bigger sign up bonus which arrived after initial card launch; not the 5K goodwill for people who signed up at launch?

5K goodwill is not exclusively for HfP brokered sign-ups, right? I applied directly.

I could be wrong! The threads are becoming a mess.

No £5 Dual Avios Reward for me yet.

I contacted Barclays about it on 14th April. The chat agent claimed I wasn’t enrolled in Avios Rewards, I am, I can see the fee in my current account transactions.

So I made a complaint. I was told I would receive a letter confirming the complaint and someone from the complaints department would contact me within 4 days.

15 days later… no letter, no contact, no Dual Avios Reward…

I just asked using the in app chat. They told me I didn’t have Avios Rewards enabled for my current account. I definitely do, I can see it in the app and I’ve received Avios into my BA Exec account. Filing a complaint now, others may wish to check too.

Apparently the chat is not live. Each message typed is read by a different person at Barclays so there is no continuity.

I tried asking for help viewing statements in the app via the app chat… got passed around ELEVEN different colleagues who all asked me to repeat the description of the problem then passed me to someone else without saying anything. Total waste of time.
