I also had this 18 months ago! It was only £3.50 but principle matters. I emailed them and got refunded. You can of course just phone them. It’s quite disgraceful that the IT still not sorted out but I guess it is BA.

Another vote for Mauritius, we had a great time there so much to do if you want to or do nothing if that’s your thing. Just remember beach shoes as island is surrounded by coral reef and it washes up on beach. I’ve been to several Caribbean islands in fact got married in Antigua but much prefer Indian Ocean.

@Rob I think we need a new article on booking 2-4-1s which can just be linked to instead of people answering the same questions over and over again.
It won’t make a scrap of difference people are inherently lazy and will take the easy option of posting a new question. If they just bothered to read the t&c of what they sign up for they would know the answers already.

It has been mentioned on the bits article. There’s a long thread on FT Qatar forum about it. He’s not my cup of tea, way too negative and I just don’t like him he seems to love courting controversy. As to whether the crew have been sacked unless one of them comes forward who knows. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they had been. They aren’t dealing with a company that has a union or a country with fair employment laws. There’s plenty of comments and stories from crew (allegedly ) telling us about the bad working conditions, again whether true or not who knows.
I think he loves the drama and the airline from publicity point of view have handled it badly. If they had just ignored him and his review it would be finished with now.To dare is to do 151 posts
Have you looked on Dubai forum on Tripadvisor, there is a wealth of info on there. Going by regulars you might need a wrap etc for evenings, and one of regulars who lives out there said they were by pool but it was windy. You need to choose hotels wisely as this time of year some pools are quite shaded.
Dubai doesn’t really have a “ main bit” as such so depends on what your requirements are to where you stay. Taxis are cheap easy to use and get you can also do Uber or Careem I think are the apps. Make sure you use a proper metered taxi not a limo one.29th November 2023 at 08:14 in reply to: Hotels with guaranteed early check in DubaiTo dare is to do 151 posts
“You mention booking a hotel car that is rarely a cheap option but in my experience usually provides an excellent return on investment. Apart from the comfort of getting directly into a decent car after a long flight, having water plus hot/cold towels, the driver calling ahead so that you are met at the hotel entrance and taken straight to your room, you are already prioritised which will give privileges far greater than any loyalty card or hotel booking programme, including very early check in.”
I always book hotel car, yes more expensive but I used to travel on my own as a disabled person and it’s so much easier having someone meet me take care of my luggage and me. Now I’m not in position to travel on my own it’s my way of helping whoever in the family is helping me. The hotel know exactly when I’m arriving the drivers always contact them and let them know they have collected me. I also get to choose what type of vehicle as I need to sit in front as no chance I can get in back of car.
I also prefer it from a safety point of view being a woman traveller, I like to know that someone else knows what vehicle I’m in.28th November 2023 at 08:12 in reply to: Hotels with guaranteed early check in DubaiTo dare is to do 151 posts
Think only way to guarantee this is to book the extra night, I’ve been lucky at Waldorf come off early flight and room has been ready, but I always inform hotel I’ll be early and I get them to book me a car for various reasons.
You could always contact hotel and ask but you would probably get a generic if we can we will reply. To dare is to do 151 posts
JDB is correct people don’t complain to the right people, I love reading a good rant but you need to complain to the people who run lounge or BA. If you keep accepting sub par products they will continue to give you them.

Good point Anna ! Funny I assumed it was avois booking being HFP never occurred to me someone would pay for flights. 😂

Even if it is old style still miles better than economy! That’s a long flight in back of plane. Even if you did book CS you can’t guarantee there won’t be an equipment swap. If you have points and there’s availability upgrade to club and don’t sweat the seat.

Can’t do it on nectar but can convert on BA as GG above said. No need to spend time on twit land or phone calls.

If you don’t want your Son to pay just add his room onto your credit card at reception and let him sign charges to your room, that way you aren’t limiting yourself to AI hotels.

I often book a room for my Son and wife on points, I book in my name and add him as additional guest. Never had any problems.

The search function has not worked for months,

Apparently the fix is to reverse the search.
Yet another day of BA hopeless IT.

You will be fine, my Son goes to Portugal a lot with his golf clubs, and I always book him CE reward flights. He was in Vilamoura 2 weeks ago he did say the price of a round of golf has gone from €80 to €118!

Would it not depend on reward flight availability ?
Caribbean 8/9 hours flight Mauritius 12 from memory. If you’re planning for this year think you’ll be lucky to find any flights. But who knows.
I’d secure flights first then plan my trip. Also don’t forget hurricane season in Caribbean.13th May 2023 at 09:57 in reply to: Mauritius advice: hotels, areas and things to doTo dare is to do 151 posts
Helicopter was fantastic we flew over a fish farm and the water is so clear you can see everything. You will have great time whatever you do.

As strikers said cruise critic is a great source of info for everything you need.Something to remember if you book trips independently from cruise line and you get delayed the ship won’t wait for you, if you book a ships excursion and delayed it will wait. Most cruise lines have cruise air fares with airlines and will sort them out if you want.
Trailfinders is another good company with a dedicated cruise department.
Where are you departing from west coast of USA or Vancouver ? Don’t plan on flying in on same day of cruise that’s asking for world of pain, come day before or few days if you want to explore but certainly day before overnight in hotel near cruise terminal.
Look at taking a drinks package if not included and gratuities lines like Celebrity include these now but you really need to research what cruise line you like. If you are interested in BA shopping portal there is a cruise company you can earn points with. I’d phone up or do all research then book on line but all depends how hard core of a collector you are and of course if they do cruise you want.
You can of course book reward flights use a 241 whatever to book your positioning flight. Not sure you will be able upgrade with points a cruise line air fare as these a different fare bracket.Start with cruise critic that will become your go to place, very knowledgable people on the boards.

We stayed on east coast at Shangri-La Le Touessrok, Mauritius one of our best holidays ever. Not the kind of hotel you’re looking for but a really nice hotel. My advice buy beach shoes the island is surrounded by a coral reef and you need the shoes for swimming/on beach. We did some great trips went horse racing fab day out in private box but would have been great down on the track. Went and fed the monkeys by speedboat can’t recall where that is. Did a helicopter trip over island which was exciting. Took the hotel boat over to the private island and golf course several times, not so sure private island is that private lots of party catamarans there but golf course is great 72 par Bernard langer designed for those that play. Best bit was hiring our own catamaran for the day and seeing sea turtles and fishing in Indian Ocean.
We loved our holiday there I took my Son for ten days and it’s still in our top 5 of trips. You will have a great time.21st April 2023 at 08:14 in reply to: Vancouver hotels – any recommendations pre cruise? To dare is to do 151 posts
We stayed here not cheap but for us the location being next to cruise terminal was more important.

I’ve just bought new kitchen from wren paid on Amex, you can manage your order through an app and pay some off here and there. Use wicks for building supplies paint etc go thru BA store pay by Amex. They will deliver so if heavy stuff it’s a godsend. The points soon mount up with a little effort, another way is to go thru cash back site T O P Cashback click thru the links and you can link BA executive number and cash out to that in points. Furniture always get points and cash back go to store try out what you want come home order online more points. You also earn with EBay and Argos. If you shop at Sainsbury’s go through BA store but not on app must be desktop points collected are nectar but again transfer over to Exec account. All can be paid for by Amex. You will soon have enough points and companion voucher.
