Have a look at BA holidays you can upgrade with points to PE but has to be done on phone when booking holiday. Obviously I’ve no idea if you need a hotel but it’s another option, same system you can only upgrade if seats are available. Even if you only add a hotel for a night or car hire that turns it into a package holiday. 121k points would actually get you upgrade from PE to club class return if you can afford extra cost of seat and taxes etc. Think it cost me 90k points and extra £350 ish in taxes/fees last time I did it.

I’ve been asked by BA at LHR for my card. It was a lesson learnt as my Mum had paid for ticket, now I make sure to tick the box is the person paying travelling etc when I book Son’s tickets. I’ve also been asked by Thai airways for card.

For HK I would suggest figuring out which area you want to stay in. Of everywhere we’ve stayed, I think The Langham in Mongkok was the best. Lovely hotel in an area of the city that still had a bit of a local buzz about it. We stayed at the Harbour Grand last time which is slightly more ‘downmarket’ 5*, but nice street food nearby and the main reason to choose was the monster bath on the balcony overlooking the harbour (took hours to fill but staff did that). NYE fireworks sadly got cancelled so the rooftop was only good for harbour views.

I agree, I had a great stay at The Langham. It’s close to everything great metro links, I had a club room and their lounge had great snacks and a great view. I really liked the rooftop swimming pool.

For special assistance go to Manage my booking and book which level of assistance you require, sounds like you need option 2 to me, do this at least 48hours before flight.

When you arrive at check in ask them to call you a wheelchair they don’t normally leave business class passengers waiting.

They will take you to lounge and pick you up and take to departure gate.

Add in extra time anything involving wheelchairs/disability takes longer.

They will have booked you assistance at the other end.

Yes you can push yourself but if you aren’t used to this or it’s first time I wouldn’t recommend it but that’s up to you.

If you need assistance when you arrive at airport there’s buttons on kerbside you can press and a wheelchair will be brought to you. There is a limited seating area this is towards end of drop off zone near business/ first wing outside.

Tracey, that’s 80k+80k in promotion per person, if there’s 2 of you buy the maximum points each then pool them into one account for free.

I always take a copy of my points balance before any maintenance is done, just incase my points go astray.

If you are indeed a “cold water wuss”, I can’t see how you’ll enjoy Portugal. We were in the Algarve a few years ago in late August/early September, the sea water was rarely above 22C. June will be even cooler.

Yes, it’s the Atlantic Ocean not the Med and can be quite rough, I do believe they hold the surfing championships which show you how rough seas can be.

Vilamoura is nice, we go there a lot, in fact booked my son and wife reward flights yesterday for their anniversary, and we are going in October. My Son says the Conrad is nice not so many children I’ve stayed Tivoli Marina Vilamoura Algarve Resort which I really liked, for me with mobility problems it was so close to nice restaurants and the beach, I do believe it’s having a refurb now. Son says the spa at the Hilton is fantastic if that’s important to you. There’s lots of high end hotels if that’s what you are looking for. You can get BA flights from LHR or LGW.

Never under estimate reward saver flights to Europe. You’re not points rich but a lot to be said for a reward flight that is fully flexible that can be picked up for points and £1.

I know it’s not covered much on this site, but I’ve found the BA shopping portal to be an invaluable way of earning extra avios (sometimes well into the ‘000s) on things I was buying anyway. I do find it’s extremely hit and miss as to whether you earn the advertised rate and whether the VAT inclusive or exclusive price is used for the points. I’ve had things go in my favour too, such as being credited 5,000 avios twice by one retailer for the same purchase. Beware also that some retailers either refuse to credit the avios or claw it back in the future for spurious/incorrect reasons (M&S and JD Sports are the two key offenders on my purchases). Others are excellent, Nike, John Lewis, Clarins. There’s some surprising retailers on there – I’ve noticed I’ve been failing to earn avios on Sainsburys deliveries for example, as didnt know they were a partner.

You won’t earn points if you do shopping on Sainsbury’s app so make sure you open up an actual webpage thru browser.

Go for CE it’s only a few more miles and you’re using a voucher anyway. Lounge access and extra luggage if you need it.

    Good summary “S”
Will book Emtel SIM card in advance.
Also got mauri connect car hire booked for next week when I land there.

If you want any currency change it at airport when you land, you get a better rate, or you always used to! Currency shops are easy to find in arrivals.

Let’s be honest the BA lounge at DXB is crap too. Get there as late as possible and head straight to the plane.

This, the BA lounge is dire, honestly you’re missing nothing by not going. Or ignore email turn up but be prepared not to be let in.

Have you filled in VeriFLY details?

Do they even use that anymore? Didn’t use it when I flew to Dubai 3 weeks ago, no one here or there asked about covid either

I had to use it 5 weeks ago to check in online to DXB , so who knows 🤷‍♀️ It was just a suggestion.

Took my 12 year old grandson to Dubai couple weeks ago. Going out I was in window seat club suite grandson across aisle to me his mum the other side. Well it was me who was up all night covering him in quilt and making sure he was ok as although his mum was next to him she was to far away and would have to walk through galley to get to him. If there had been a problem it would have been me dealing with it.On return day flight he had window and his mum was next him and he spent time in her suite playing games. I must be only person who doesn’t like the club suites, I didn’t like the door I didn’t like the seat I felt claustrophobic in it and I didn’t like the across body seat belts.
