Still waiting for mine. All I have received from BA is an email telling me the case reference number has changed.

I submitted a flight delay claim and it has now been 8 weeks. I have followed up with BA numerous times since for an update via the link you get in the complaint case acknowledgement email, and also via a number of other BA email addresses. I have not received a single response to any of these update requests. I am BA Gold and called the line today to see if they can shed any light but the answer was no, and that if I contacted them then the complaint gets pushed to the back of the queue. Brilliant, so effectively they do nothing. See little choice than to go to CEDR, although I note above that JDB suggests it is better to “address the basis for BA’s refusal”……in my case they refuse to even respond. Any suggestions about the best way to proceed would be welcome.

She was well under 450 at 31/12. Most of the tier points came from a double TP BA holiday that we did in January. Also the email is titled “another year of silver awaits” and her card expiry date is now 30/6/24. So as far as I can see it looks like we have been given a freebie.

Sorry, I have just realised I have not actually answered your question!

I was on the euroflyer FAO-LGW at the end of March and got in (I’m gold) with my wife (silver). And yes, its pretty poor!

I could go through fast track security at FAO but the computer said no to my wife – I thought silver could go through fast track?

BTW the check in process there was a bit of a shambles as they only have 2 check in desks for Euroflyer fights so don’t bank on there being a short queue for BA status holders

    Thanks all.

Also had a chat with a couple of people and the universal answer seems to be Airlink.

Thanks for the comprehensive explanation. Its an interesting concept having a guy go off to try and locate your bag for you etc. I think given that I’m building in a 6 hour ish stopover I will just go and get them myself and re-check in etc, sounds less stressfull!! At least it sounds like the Joburg lounge has been renovated and is half decent.

Yes I’m aware of that so leaving about 6 hours each time between the landing and departure times. Not ideal but there you go doesn’t seem like I have much choice!

We got into the lounge in Faro the other week on BA euroflyer, although I would rather have had the 35 euros.

I got 4 of us (all adults) into the First lounge at Gatwick with my gold card recently which surprised me. It was very quiet in there though.

Yep. They have mostly already planned that……

I think I am going to have this problem a few times having gone berserk on the recent amex offer to get an additional 4 cards for wife and kids hence going to end up with 5 companion vouchers to use

You can’t use avios to upgrade at the airport.

It depends on which cabin you upgrade from and to and also the route

I was quoted £ 719 on Wednesday for CW – F LHR – JFK when I asked. Last year it was £500 for almost the same date. I declined the former but not the latter.

What was your route, cabin upgrade and charge?

I flew LHR-MLE on 5/1 and paid £702 to go from WT to CW (club suite). I thought you couldn’t use avios at the airport but was quoted some bizarre number (84,650 from memory) to do the upgrade – not sure the person on the other end of the phone had a clue what they were doing. I was also checking in at the First wing so was expecting them to be a bit more on the ball than they were.

Flyertalk does have a thread for posters to share details of Airport upgrades (AUPs)

    thanks that looks pretty comprehensive!

in reply to: Link two bookings to be seated together?
    tomahawk 82 posts

We travelled as a group of 10 earlier in the year on a family holiday which had to be on 2 separate bookings (BA holidays max under one booking is 9 people). They linked the bookings together in the background somehow, and said that this meant we “should” be seated together. I wasn’t enormously convinced but it did actually work and we were all seated together on the outward and return flights.

    tomahawk 82 posts

Yes I think thats exactly whats happened. The article made it sound like you had an extension if the card expiry was 13 months after the tier point end, but in my case it is 13 months after because of the carry over year after reaching a new status level. Thanks for clarifying this.

    Thanks AJA.
I am not sure what I have gained from this extension then, it seems nothing. Before the extension I would have had card expiry 31/12/22 and since I achieved Silver a couple of months ago I would retain Silver for the next year i.e. until 31/12/23 before dropping to Bronze. on 1/1/24

With the extension to 31/12/23 I still drop to Bronze on 1/1/24 so appear to be in exactly the same position as I was before the extension!!

I flew in BA First a couple of years ago and had exactly the same experience. I could not believe how awful the breakfast was and would certainly never consider going BA First ever again. Virgin upper or Emirates first class are so far superior to BA in every respect.

After posting this question I checked again and it is now working. Seems like it must take a few days for the system to update or something.

I’m talking to myself – am I going mad???

Flew in the centre seats in a 777 recently. There are bassinets on the bulkhead so that is certainly a risk – I was very pleased when the people in the other 2 seats arrived without a baby! Other than that it was good because there is a lot more room. I would not agree with the comment about the area in front being used a thoroughfare – nobody came through in front of us, theres no room to do so if you have a couple of items on the floor in front of you (bag, blanket etc). Certainly when the seat is reclined and the footrest is out they would have to be pretty desperate to try and get through.

You can upgrade 2 out of the 4 but they will have to split the booking so you will end up with 2 people on one booking reference and 2 on another.

in reply to: Upgrading WT+ flights on BA Holidays bookings?
    tomahawk 82 posts

I’ve done this recently. Upgraded 6 economy seats to WTP coming back from the caribbean. I’ve ended up with the booking split across 3 references as that gave the best price. Just call BA holidays and they can sort it out easily – once you get through.
