Any feedback on the De vere Cotswolds?

Trying to book a family gathering and that seems to tick boxes.

Gibraltar, stay at the sunburn Yacht hotel. It isn’t really a yacht it just looks like one.

Madeira, Funchal. Lots of modern hotels to choose from or go for the iconic Reids hotel.

Tipping is always awkward, unless you are American.

Thought we had it sussed on safari recently. Followed the guidelines on tripadvisor and from our travel agent and we’re tipping our safari guide and into the general tip box on departure, only to see the Americans tipping all and sundry at every opportunity, including the pilot of the hot air balloon!

Tier points and Avios on the return journey of a reward 241 for companion but not for lead player. Repeat of what happened on the outward journey 2 weeks ago.

    Hi

Anyone used any online firms for EU261 claims. I have now 3 declines that I would like to pass on them rather than spend time myself. any recommendations? good or bad? thanks

Quite a few years ago I used Bott&Co. They were fine.

Tier points and Avios posted on reward long haul with 241 flight for the companion only. Both player 1 and companion show C class, companion had tier points and Avios, player 1 did not. BA had cancelled original flight and so flight had been moved by a day.

This is also happened last year on a reward long haul with 241 that hadn’t been changed at all. On the return but not outward, companion received tier points and Avios.

At that age it would be far safer to leave in economy than home alone!

in reply to: A380 – best business class seats for a couple
    Tracey

We take the middle seats when travelling as a couple. If it’s a day flight then often one or other side that would require stepping over isn’t in full bed mode. It’s far easier to talk to your partner if you are next to each other than Yong Yang. Aisle seats always seem very exposed.

I also feel that couples should book the middle seats as they are really undesirable seats for single travellers, but maybe I’m being more considerate than I need to be.

    HAL could learn.

I’m in Kenya, transferring between safari and beach resort involved 2 flights. Had a flat tyre on the first flight, delaying our arrival in Nairobi. Told the crew as we disembarked that we had a short connection. Baggage handlers unloaded all the luggage outside the plane, identified our cases and said they would walk them over to the next flight as check in would have closed, crew member then offered to retrieve our beach ware case from left luggage, brought it out to the baggage handler who took it over to the second plane.

I wouldn’t worry about this. Few passengers will want to sit next to someone else’s kid and most people would swap for any travelling group provided their new seat was no worse than the original one.

Would only go AI in the Maldives, as you can’t visit other restaurants outside your hotel.

Local hotels rather than international chains seem to offer better value.

in reply to: Companion voucher – companion no show
    Tracey

You could try and split the booking and cancel the companion voucher – depending on its expiry date.

If you booked before 8 June and travel before end September, your covered by Book With Confidence, so no cancellation fee

Ask at the first resort for a price. They will offer depending whether you want to go direct or via Male, sometimes they can work a cheap route via a third resort.

Depending on age of kids, look at the Royalton. It’s AI with about 7 restaurants. Kids pool and playground area. For older kids there are beach activities. It’s now part of the Marriott group if that helps.

    Thanks for your input guys.

Apologies. It is 1 booking. Outbound on BA4467 DUB-LCY dep. 1555 arr. 1730. Inbound on BA4470 dep. 2030 arr. 2150.

Then BA are obliged to look after you. Also if you are more than 3 hours late you would be entitled to compensation in most cases.

To add to George’s reply, the first wing is nearest to the far, far end of the drop off zone. Marginally easier for those with mobility issues to be dropped on the LHS of the road rather than the RHS.

It’s the handles that fail first IME. Either they pull out and won’t return or they won’t budge when closed.

    Tracey

…and remember you should be in a priority boarding group on your next flight, so join the right queue to board.

    Tracey

No need to book the lounge. You just show your boarding pass at the entrance and you are allowed in.

in reply to: Obtain proof of recovery
    Tracey

Thanks – does that include LFT if reported to NHS?

Yes it does. These companies are just generating a certificate based on what you provide. The certificate will say whether it’s based on a PCR or LFT.

in reply to: Obtain proof of recovery
    Tracey

Easiest is a private certificate of recovery based on your LfT.

An alternative is to get hold of an NHS PCR test; some people were sent them along with LFTs as part of a study comparing LFT results to PCR. They were also sent to some vulnerable people to hold in case they would need anti virals, so they could test quickly. If you can find someone who has a PCR and won’t be needing it, you can register it in your name, send it back and will then get a certificate recovery through the app.
