I am considering booking a one way flight with Sri Lankan from Sydney to Columbo, on the Sri Lankan Airlines website. Is there any way to get them to charge be in GBP and not Australian Dollars? ( can’t see any option on the website)

No – the person with the voucher must be on the booking, so the only solo option for the voucher is yourself. T

in reply to: T5B lounge – worth the detour?
    Whisper2 60 posts

I would check the occupancy rates of the lounges at the time, then make your choice. You can do so via this on your phone via this link:
    https://ba-uk-occupancy.livereachmedia.com/

Strangely, when we went through Heathrow on the 3rd, B lounge was ~80% capacity, and the rest all <20%.
    So worth checking before trekking…

Great link, could be useful, thank you

Yes, that’s a completely USELESS link (sorry OP).It said 5B was 80% full and then it was empty. 5B seems a good choice and there are travelators each way

If you find you have a travelator both ways (back to 5A) you have made difficult navigational error and you have managed to get into the other “arrivals” tunnel. You will end up at connections/passport control and not at the departure gates.

You should walk back to 5A down the same tunnel, so you can only use the travelators when going from 5A to 5B (and on to 5C).

New AVIS offer. 20% back every time up to £50. On my Gold and Rewards Cards.

Also the Tesco offer mentioned above. I did not get it on the card that I used the previous £5 off £50 Tesco offer on in December, but I did get it on my Gold Card, which I had the previous offer on, but I had not used it.

Maybe you could buy 20k more Avios using Avios boost (if you have managed to collect 5k in the last 30 days) or transfer some Amex points to get to 340k total which you need for the peak return on the 241. Then book child + yourself on the 241 and pay cash for 2nd adult.
If you can get more Avios then you can use the BUV for adult 2.

Mine triggered on 28th Oct and appeared in my account (I got an email saying it had triggered too). I did my final £10 to Amazon on the evening of Friday 25th Oct – which “cleared” on Monday morning and triggered the voucher.

    in reply to: Referrals
    Whisper2 60 posts

I have a slight variation on this. If I use my saved referral link in my Chrome browser that I normally use for accessing Amex, I get the ‘we’re having trouble finding the page you’re looking for’ error. It is the same if a get a new referral link from the Amex website. On the same PC if I open Edge and use the link, it works fine.
I think it is either cookie related or a browser issue rather than Amex voiding the links.

    Whisper2 60 posts

I moved from NW to a Virgin Money Club M account as it was cheaper, provided mobile cover, and the travel insurance did not charge me extra because I take medication for High BP.

The policy says for points :
If you pay for all or part of your trip using a loyalty
points programme, you may not be able to get your
points back when you cancel. If this happens, we’ll pay
you in cash, and base your claim on the lowest price
    that’s advertised.

Lowest advertised – does that mean the lowest CW seat price or the lowest economy seat price? Thankfully I have not had to find out!

in reply to: BA or CX to Hong Kong in Premium Economy
    Whisper2 60 posts

I flew CX in PE last March to HKG and back. I will be avoiding CX in the future.
On BA the cabin crew frequently come by with water or sometimes orange to drink. With CX they brought you nothing more to drink after the meal (a bottle of water was provided at the seat on boarding). I had to either use the call button (which I don’t like doing as it feels rather demanding) or go to the galley myself. After a trip the galley myself to get water (which I politely asked for) the crew response was offhand and clearly not wanting to be bothered, I then resorted to using the call button.
We had a meal shortly after departure – and the food was fine, but nothing special. When I woke after 5-6hrs the “menu” had claimed I could get noodles or a snack, but when I asked I was told there was no food left – not even a biscuit. I was over 10 hours into a approx 14hr flight and had not eaten for about 7 hours so I was starting to get a little hungry. With my disbelief at the “no food left” the cabin member said she would go into business class and see if they had anything. She did return with an apple – which was much appreciated as it was all I had to eat in a 12hr period.

The crew also did not collect any rubbish through out the flight, so by the end my seat point was stuffed with empty water bottles to the point I had to put several on the floor. This was the case for everyone, so on landing the rubbish all rolled forward accordingly.

So my experience on CX was poor service and lack of food and water. I will fly BA next time … but the CX lounges are nicer 🙂

in reply to: The mobile data / international roaming thread
    Whisper2 60 posts

    From the chat thread ….
Thank-you to everyone who gave me suggestions yesterday for a mobile SIM (I can’t use eSIM) for the US and Canada next month. I thought a quick summary of what I found and did would be good.

O2 – I could not find clear information on the travel Bolt on for my PAYG. One page suggested £1.99/day but was unclear what it provided outside Europe.

EE – Roam Abroad Pass looked excellent, for £15/month on top of your standard monthly cost you get to use your UK allowance in a lot of countries including US & Canada. I then investigated what contract I needed, but it was only available on a minimum of 12 month contracts, so my idea of a 1 month contract and then cancelling was no good.

THREE – As a few people said, 3 PAYG is excellent for the US. You can use up to 12GB of your UK allowance for no extra cost, and a 10GB data pack is £10, but it doesn’t include Canada (£6 per MB!).

SIM CORNER – I ordered a 15GB 30 day sim for £30 from SIM Corner (thanks for the pointer @Strickers) which covers US and Canada. I did a little Googling and it’s easy to find a code to GET10 percent off the £30.

    Thank-you everyone for the advice.

    Not just you.
I had this issue last week for BHD-LHR. Try searching 1 way. I can get it to show outbound for BHD-LHR – but for me there is nothing I can find in August for LHR-BHD, even thought the rewards flight availability checker month view says there are flights available. I get the “error” message. I was hoping they would fixed….obviously not yet! 🙂

We’ve done the Raratonga twice (15 years apart) – it was beautiful. We stayed at Palm Grove which is very small and quiet and just what we wanted. It was great 15 years later too. It has a lovely quiet bit of beach.

We have only done Aitutaki once for a day trip and it was spectacular. The lagoon makes all the pictures look a bit average, the colour of the water and sand are stunning. Some great snorkelling too. I can’t offer an Aitutaki accommodation advice, but we said that if we got a chance to go back to Raratonga we would stay a few nights on Aitutaki.

Cancelled BA Blue today, I was offered double Avios (2 for every £!) for 3 months. Slightly tempted, but didn’t.

A well known bug in the Amex application process.

    https://www.headforpoints.com/forums/topic/a-bug-in-the-amex-application-algorithm/

Happened to us a while ago, sad to see they still haven’t found a fix.

    @can
yes I had read that thread. What I cannot understand is that we have always has supplementary card cards for each other and we have never had to cancel the supplementary card first. It had previously not been and issue and it seems obvious that a supplementary card would end when the main card ends. Surely the credit agreement is with the main card holder, so once the main card account closes, the supplementary should disappear.
