Reviving this thread – I’ve got my card added to Apple Pay but online merchant doesn’t accept Apple Pay. Is there a way of going from Apple Pay to Safari autofill/saved cards?

@skywalker just a heads up, the duty free store there is a Dufry one so you can get a further 10% off if platinum

    YC 229 posts

Not if there is no reward availability. You can’t even do that on BA metal if booked on avios.

Good idea on tk maxx. I’m really hoping it’s not lost as the contents are worth more than 1288SDR… Will try to wait till the last minute but good to have a plan. I’m still not sure how with an 11hr delay and I can see the plane at the gate for at least 4 of those hours that bags were not loaded.

Can’t answer your specific question but it’s worth knowing that if there are seats available at the check in counter, you can upgrade with miles. You don’t need actual redemption availability to open up.

Got caught up in the dubai/emirates mess last week and bags were not loaded on the plane (still being searched for). As that was for my flight home, I can’t claim/need anything urgently. However I’m due to fly out again this weekend and what I need is the actual suitcase. Any chance of getting the airline or insurance to pay for a suitcase in this situation?

@Froggee Thanks given me confidence to stick with my initial choice

Trying to decide between 58K or 15A/K on the BA A380. Overnight flight and looking to get some sleep and privacy. I believe 15A/K has direct aisle and window but is near the toilets (which could get busy if eco passengers use those too?).

58K on the upper deck (not sure how many more a380 experiences I will get) so quieter and a bit more storage but will likely need to jump over legs (currently aisle seat is free). Any preferences?

What are your dates? Are you willing to do a two city trip? E.g. fly out of Montreal? The eco leg doesn’t look particularly attractive from a cost stand point.

Alternatively you could pay cash and fly direct with air transat from £235 (date dependent).

Thanks I’ve gone for it. Will have another think about the 50/75 choice when it comes. Oddly, the thing that finally tipped the scales for me was assigning a bit of value to these nights counting towards lifetime (got years but short nights).

Probably closer to 15 nights of higher end hotels where it counts. Historically been getting decent upgrades and the 40k cert is a bit more cash in hand feeling.

Still on the fence on this…

RC yacht is typically excluded. It’s just so niche that they tend to forget to include in promo t&cs. They didn’t count towards double nights as well last year despite not being in exclusion list. I suspect you were misled and they thought it was just a normal RC stay. You obviously got grounds to fight it given you specifically took out the challenge on this basis but Marriott likely to stick to their rules. If it all fails, could try to push for more points comp

@zapato1060 do u remember when you did this to reset the earning cycle? I did this last year and it was all good but now I noticed that it states new rewards available from x date (pre upgrade). Obviously not keen on upgrading just yet if the spend won’t count towards the new voucher.

in reply to: Langkwai St Regis v Ritz Carlton
    YC 229 posts

Ritz for me especially if you have kids (kids club). Hard product is in better shape.

St Regis had slightly better service, more usable beach and you are more likely to be upgraded to a room with a pool.

To be honest, I am not rushing back to either. Better to fly to phuket or bali from KUL if you want to plonk yourself by a beach resort.

That would be great for many but why hold off? It’s only a nominal amount to cancel avios tickets

If you can fly a day earlier, there is availability on qatar sept 5-15. I would snap these up asap if I was you. 150k no voucher.

BAPP voucher opens up more availability but you can’t search LHR-KUL to see this as BA don’t fly direct anymore. You will need to search Lon-Sin/Hkg. You will also then need to do on a separate booking the short haul and likely collect bags and recheck in for that leg. It’s quite a lot of effort/time eaten into your trip especially for a short one. Having said that, I did notice HKG availability is decent and CX do release last minute tickets too.

Worth searching on qatar website too for 75k each way in business. Availability is different vs Ba site.

You can search for MH direct with the standard Lon-Kul but availability for partners on this route in J is pretty hard to come by.

Also possible to fly using virgin points on KLM (UK-Ams-Kul) but more points than options above (110-120k).

Better to put yourself in the cash room. Technically u should get the elite night for the room you sleep in and only cash rates are eligible for the double night promo

in reply to: Marriott hotels in Tokyo – best option?
    YC 229 posts

The mitsui brand looks fairly decent but rooms are small. I’m travelling with an infant so need a bigger room which the western chains seem to have more of. Definitely a big gap in price when comparing local hotels with western chains. But points may be a different story if going in peak periods.

Buying hyatt points made sense for me but it’s during cherry blossom.

For marriott, the ginza edition is new and priced slightly cheaper than the RC or other edition. I might be swayed to stay there if doing 5 nights. If space is not an issue, the other marriott options in ginza look ok and not bad of a deal on points.

in reply to: InterContinental hotels in Tokyo – best option?
    YC 229 posts

Thanks Meta. Osaka – Not sold on both to be honest but trying to push some cash nights to marriott for the double nights. Str is a bit too expensive. I am tempted by the intercontinental if points become available.

Kyoto – Would u still pick mitsui over RC given SNAs can be used at both?

Tokyo – There for 4 nights. I do have an amb weekend cert to use up so could split 2/2 with ginza. Although cash rates with the amb is still only slightly cheaper than my current HC on points (bought with the recent glitch).

in reply to: InterContinental hotels in Tokyo – best option?
    YC 229 posts

Appreciate some thoughts too for my upcoming trip (infant in tow so aiming for larger-ish rooms):
    1. Osaka – Torn between Marriott Miyako and the W hotel. Cash booking with W about 10% more.
    2. Kyoto – Booked RC on points given raved reviews (also can now use SNAs at RC!) but not sure if I should switch to Mitsui or PH (if points become available)
    3. Tokyo – Booked Hyatt Centric Ginza on points but may switch up Edition Ginza if PH Kyoto becomes available.

Third world / headforpoints kind of problems. Trying to optimise hotels with limited points. Despite the Yen being weak, the luxury hotels cash prices are nuts. Even looking at local brands, points still is the way to go at the moment. So glad I am in this game.

Can someone confirm if it’s 24hrs before the flight to get full refund minus £30 for partner redemptions? I’ve got a backup flight that needs cancelling <7 days if plans A goes ahead

Definitely generous! Golds should earn 12.5points/usd (pre tax). Did you have an ‘exclusively for you’ offer for double points?
