If you think you might bored with 6 days in the Indigo, there are loads of more resorty hotels in limassol. The parklane provided excellent elite recognition 2 years ago. Taxis are not cheap (c.EUR50 each way from larnaca to nicosia) so best to hire a car if moving around

Thanks @AJA, @Michael, @TGLoyalty – I am sticking with WTP to Rio and cancelling my seatspy alert on SP (to not tempt me again). The other factor is that with the increasing surcharges, the reprice would doubly hurt. Still tempted by CW to Rio if availability pops up but after the soothing feedback on WTP for a day flight, slightly less tempted now.

A classic HfP dilemma… Do I switch a WTP+ ticket (to Rio) for CW (to Sao Paolo with club suite)? Initially didn’t think too much about Sao Paolo but is it worth a detour? Currently have 3 full days in Rio and will have to cut that to 2 to do SP for a night.

Thanks. I am thinking of ways to get to Aus and HK has good availability (VS). Then CX to Aus. Would likely mean a few days in HK so need the country to open up more and drop testing/quarantine. Too risky/unlikely?

What is the general feeling regarding flying to/transiting through HK over Easter next year?

Not a points question – Any idea how quickly JL stocks new iphones post release? Trying to take onboard the tip to gain an extra year warranty by going via JL

in reply to: Mattress run for 15 nights – best option?
    YC

If you can push some stays to marriott (even if slightly more expensive) do that. On mattress runs to top it off, I would book some refundable rates now but for the stays to happen towards the tail end of your 90 days. This allows you to maximise any promos that happen during the challenge (hopefully for you – double night credits).

The other idea (not sure if this will work but worth exploring) is to trigger the challenge later in Q4, this might mean if you hit the 15 nights in 2023, you get platinum for 2023 and 2024.

Not sure what the likelihood of acceptance is for a reward credit cards (high APRs) if you are just starting to get some income. Barclays also seem a bit stricter on income verification.

However, if u can swing it, get the barclays plus card and time the card application with any large bills u can pick up for your family/friends. This way u can get the large sign up bonus. Then downgrade to the free card. It should cost you £60 for 25k avios. Redeem 7.5k at sainsbury/argos and u break even on your £60 outlay.

What I have observed is that those who collect slow and steady end up with a relatively small pot after 2-3years. They then try to see what value they can get and realise its peanuts for a few years of collection and give up on this hobby all together. Sign up bonuses and referrals are key in gaining that initial momentum.

Award stays also count towards status renewal. If u can get a low category (Spain can be good) with the free 5th night free, could work out better.

Mobile check out is fine but I don’t know if 15 nights without any activity might cause the hotel to investigate if you are around/alive. U could also check with the hotel directly if they can provide a special long stay rate

I think losing the free night is fair (based on T&Cs) but 50% on top feels very harsh. As mentioned earlier, I would try to sell/gift the night to someone – you may get some takers from this site (especially if you had used the free night optimally…)

Is that 50% but you get your free night back? An option is that you can add a second guest to your booking if you wanted to gift/sell the night to a friend/relative. Saves you the 50% charge

Kimpton Paris on amb – Arrived late, both rooms upgraded to junior suite (recognised diamond, returning customer and secret pw). Breakfast comped for both rooms and champagne was sent to both rooms shortly after check in.

Actually it’s the tribute hotel in Ibiza. Doesn’t say resort in the name.. I guess how do I find out if it’s a ‘resort’?

    YC

Yes, when I read 75 soles. I was like that’s really expensive. I don’t think Tambo will ever sort itself out until management changes…

Have you tried any of the restaurants in Urubamba? Many were closed in April.

Lounge at Hilton Miraflores is now open again?

Sad to see Tambo’s deterioration. It was my best hotel experience in Peru in 2019 with great elite recognition and customer service (JWM Cusco and Lima were decent too but had nothing on Tambo).

in reply to: 10,000 United miles – what to do with them?
    YC

Definitely losing some value this way but u can convert 1-1 into marriott points. Alternatively, hold the miles and wait to use it for short haul hop on star alliance in the future. United miles don’t expire

What about if your friend transferred the points over to your account and you make the booking (free up to 100k/year)? Safer way of getting things credited.

If not looking for fine dining in Paris, I think these are the more reasonable ones: La Grande Brasserie, Carboni’s & Restaurant de l’Hôtel des Grands Boulevards. (Caveat – I have not tried them!)

Still the case that they were able to calculate the fees as though its a return (as per a month or so ago)

If you collect marriott/hilton/radison points, minimum is 400/200/3. Or redeem it against a low purchase (tube/coffee?)
