As per another forum thread, it looks like IHG has pulled this offer in literally the last few days. There have been multiple reports of people not getting an extension. The ship may have sailed.

Sad to say I professor Yorkieflyer was right when I said Shush😀

Premier Inn in Wilmslow is very handy at cheaper rates

Second that, also has a Hickory smokehouse adjacent, no breakfast option though

Nope can’t see any change in rate as a diamond ambassador

As I understood it there’s no check on downgrade. Yes, it seems 241s being cancelled if you cancel the British airways card entirely.

    Evidence of this please?

I tried to register my HSBC WE with PP today and it failed. The problem may be that I have LoungeKey and PP accounts already under the same email address (LK from HSBC, PP from Amex Plat).

but can we do anything till 1 October?

Well, thought I’d take one for the team and call PP. The answer was that it can’t be registered before the 1st October, the call handler seemed to know what she was talking about so we shall see. I’ll be hoping that I get in the Plaza premium lounge at 0600 in Singapore on the 1st October using Loungekey!local time ie 2300 BST/2200 GMT 30 September

A tip from Flyertalk to use the 20% discount voucher to book then checkin online using the web, not app, does indeed offer use of the upgrade voucher. Let’s see if it sticks

yes, this has worked for me twice

Yes upgrade worked no problem for our stay at the ME in plaza Santa Ana. Welcomed by guest affairs manager, welcome glass of cava, taken to room and a bottle of wine on ice and petit fours. All splendid for the Amex platinum obtained Gold tier that keeps on giving

A new Superdrug offer appeared on platinum card today, spend £20 get £5 back. Not too exciting but something I could actually use finally

Yes but not credited after a week

How do you use the dining credit with Loungekey? Show them digital Loungekey card? or tell them its loungekey and use HSBC card? not yet had the chance to use Loungekey to know – and wont get the chance to test out until the end of Sept, just before it switches.

In the case of LHR T5, can you use the dining credit, and then (say) an hour later use the Aspire lounge for free?

Sometime this month it needs HSBC to clarify how to active PP account – I tested it out last night using card number option to activate account and was told my card number was already registered to an account! Sure it will sort itself out nearer the time.

+1 with the already registered issue – have raised a query with PP customer services , will post any useful reply

I hope we can register and activate before the 1 October as that’s when we will be travelling

This is because of the extensively reported and discussed extra availability of avios flights starting in the regions! If you don’t take the MAN-LHR leg, your whole trip will be cancelled, so as @redlilly says, you need extra availability to appear for just LHR-SYD, which is unlikely given the demand for the route. If you’re booked to return to MAN, nothing will happen if you miss the last leg, though you’ll need a strategy if you have hold luggage, of course.

Probably better to have booked a return via London city to Scotland, you have to collect and recheck your baggage and of course if the connection is tight you might miss your onward flight

I just bought a LG TV at Argos for £179.99 and will get 10,179 Nectar points. Limited time offer! Posted elsewhere on these forums.

Not the best return for Avios really, I wouldn’t say worth it.

It is if you want the telly, as I did

Finally got satisfaction from Sainsburys bank after nearly a year of chasing the missing 2k points from the 10k nectar card offer. Last but one comms said it was only an in store offer, lost patience and threatened them with formal complaint and FCA and lo and behold the missing points have dropped in my account!

A nice little Nectar offer at Argos if you are in the market for a new TV. 10000 bonus Avios on various LG TVs.

I don’t need one but am very tempted at the 32″ one for £180. Would go nicely in the spare room

    excellent, cheers

JDB I have stated this before and frankly am exasperated by your unwillingness to listen to evidence that contradicts your opinion. To be clear, as I stated before, I did not use my creation card for cash like transactions. No HMRC, premium bonds, settling other balances, anything. Also I only had the IHG white card so wasn’t collecting free hotel nights. Anyway I shan’t bother commenting further on this as your mind is clearly closed on the matter.

@yorkieflyer – the key is your use of the word “occasional” which is most unlikely to cause an issue. You will find the Amex corporate card sales team using this reiteration of ‘personal use only’ in their sales pitches.

Whilst you are probably correct in practice, at least historically and obviously the folk taking the p, often business owners with the ability to game the system are presumably the culprits who’ve been the catalyst for the change. It still leaves many folk who perhaps have an overnight business trip once or twice a month with a legitimate concern. Amex do seem to be clamping down recently if we are to believe the stories we believe. I am cautious myself here having been banned by Creation for legitimate use of Curve whilst my other half wasn’t. I recall you saying only dodgy use got you barred, well I didn’t and and I was!

If I travel for my company and use the BAPP to pay for hotel, meals, transport etc., which I then expense to my employer for a refund, is this permitted under #2?

    How would anyone ever know?

It’s beyond easy for Amex to pick up that pattern of expenditure; whether or not that’s what they will do is another issue.

If your employer doesn’t provide you with a company credit card, which many do not where business expenses are only occasional what is one supposed to do?

Centauro not in terminal but recommended, but whoever you book with it will invariably be cheaper via a broker best sourced through such as Skyscanner

I’ve visited both Phuket and Koh Samui and much prefer the latter.

Only been to Patong in Phuket which seemed quite sex-touristy, over-priced (by Thai standards) and the beach wasn’t great.

On Samui, Chaweng is probably the area to avoid as lots of nightlife and little in the way of luxury accomodation.

A lot of the fancy Samui resorts tend to be isolated with little/if anything within walking distance. One exception though is the Melia, a lovely hotel at the top of the island. It is situated right on a nice beach, has excellent staff, a great pool and plenty of activities for both adults and kids. It’s on a road with a some nice restaurants, albeit not overly fancy ones but serving decent food. There’s also a nearby Kimpton which looks slightly more upscale.

Agree Choenmon beach where the Meliá and Kimpton are is an excellent recommendation, sheltered bay with enough local restaurants, bars etc

Shinkansen direct to Kanazawa from Tokyo, we did a circuit

in reply to: Ideas & Japan
    yorkieflyer 259 posts

Kanazawa has preserved old town, gardens, market etc all in a maneagable package also direct Shinkansen to Tokyo. In my view Kyoto is a very large busy unattractive modern city with the attractions very dispersed and the famous “old”street in all the pics is a reconstructed tourist shopping arcade. Agree re Okayama a great base to allow day trips on the Shinkansen main line eg day trip to Hiroshima, quite sufficient to see the obvious and also obviously a modern city with less appeal.
Regional rail passes are another good option combined with flights to/from Tokyo
