Hi, can someone please check availability on LON-BHD one way on 20th May? This particular date and route is giving me the error, despite the calendar showing availability on this date but not loading up. Could anyone else please check?

Error for me too checking 20 May LON-BHD for reward seats

OH received 150k avios in total as part of this offer. Card and account churned pretty much the following day. Off to HSBC premier now while waiting for the clock to rest for AMEX cards

Keeping the premier account dormant for now for the 1500 Avios for £12 till they bin us off though

Also received my 100,000 miles yesterday. Had the card already and opened the Barclays Bank account on the 15th November.

Must say I have been very impressed with the card will be keeping it (get 1.5 miles per £1, can use the card everywhere and no longer need to ask “do you accept Amex”, are receiving 1,500 miles for just a net £7 a months and so far no real issues with using the app). Saying that I still have Amex Gold which I use just when they have good balance spend offers

Err no it’s costing you £20+£12-£5=£27 per month

I don’t suppose it’s on the 15th of October is it!?

Coz I’ve been getting that error.

It doesn’t matter now as the flights I were looking to connect onto got snaffled anyway. Should have called midweek.

    Sad face.

Weirdly all other dates I’ve searched for from EDI-LON are fine.

Bingo! I’ve tried booking domestic Avios flights for 15 October and get same error repeatedly. Flights are available if you check Avios.com or ring in

Or in reverse, follow call centre advice, apply for paid card expecting a decline, followed by a call to refer to underwriters who will approve and also cancel free card. Call proved unnecessary and now have both…

Also just got the “100k on its way by end of April” SMS.

I guess…as I’m turning a profit on the Avios card every month…the Premier account is approximately free (£12pm cost – £5 refund for having both products, and 1500 Avios per month worth £10) and there’s another cabin upgrade voucher in a few months if I keep it.

Agreed but do we get the £5 discount for holding both products if downgrading to the free Barclaycard

Why is there any doubt? The terms for both the Reward and Reward+ cards state:-

You can spend your reward for up to 24 months from the date it’s issued. That means you have to have booked your flights and taken the outbound flight within those 24 months. You can take the return journey afterwards.

Yes we know they are the written terms but as often in life practice is at variance from t &c s. There are numerous reports of in practice it being booking date both advised and put into effect when booking

I had turned on auto conversion and it looks like I somehow set it on Avios to Nectar rather than the opposite as intended.

Yes nearly did the same blunder, I caught this right at the last second.

Annoyingly the default is set as Avios to Nectar and it’s not overly clear

in reply to: Avios stolen? Advice please

It would take 12 days for the points to arrive in in your Nectar account, not instant in that direction. Have you made any changes to the nectar/Avios link? The default on auto transfer is nectar to Avios as I found out too my cost a while a while ago

Two different things being confused here. First the specific 242 requirement to pay with the card that earned the voucher, never enforced so far. Second, the requirement for any ticket to produce the payment card, if requested, if the box ticked on booking that payee is traveling

So I spoke to someone via live chat and they had a look at my account and they said I need to switch my statement preferences to paperless to correct the problem. After doing that they sent a confirmation that I would be eligible for the 100k avios once I’ve had both products for four months. I asked if they could send an email confirming this and they said they would try and contact the relevant department to request this. I took photos of the conversation just in case I have any issues (had to use another phone as screenshot not available whilst in app). I applied for the current account in Nov so hopefully the avios should drop sometime in late March. Let’s see what happens…

Pretty sure they’re making it up as they go along. I opted to switch to paperless statements as that was -supposedly- a condition to signing up to Avios rewards. Thing is… statements still come through the post, and I did receive the email for the 100k eligibility. I’m supposed to get it around April, so will report back when I do/don’t.

Same here, Mrs Yorkieflyer and I both have paper statements switched off but they still arrive! Interesting what absolute crap Barclays are and I wonder how many will stay after they’ve argued the toss as to where their Avios are, bound to happen!

in reply to: Return leg for 2 people on Barclays Upgrade
    yorkieflyer 259 posts

They are. The return leg is on Qatar Airways (QR). Hence my point about trying a different airline!

And not using the voucher of course since that’s only for BA redemptions anyway…

We did similar with a one-way outbound booking to Singapore using a Barclays voucher. In our case we’re flying back from Phuket with QR, which was more Avios than it would have cost to fly back from Singapore with an upgrade/2for1 voucher on BA but less cash. Taking into account the costs and hassle of repositioning back to Singapore, it made more sense – and an excuse to try out QR business class (and hopefully QSuite).

In theory you could have used both vouchers from the start, one for each return. However I’m not sure how adding the return leg later works with the Barclaycard and whether you have the same options as you do with an Amex 2for1.

Yes asked about phoning up to add on return or booking online and then phoning in to get 50% Avios back and no one seems to know

in reply to: CEDR loss – BA ticket validity rule
    yorkieflyer 259 posts

Thanks @stillinthesun. I obviously raised a complaint with BA initially which produced the refusal citing ticket validity. I then sent a letter before action and then followed it up with a reminder, neither got a response. I then decided to take the CEDR as whilst fairly sure of my case the expense and likely timescales of the legal route put me off.
The CEDR process is all online with a tracker showing the status of your claim and written submissions only. Claim was submitted start of March 22, state the background clearly and succinctly and state what resolution you want. The form asked for a monetary value, I put £0 but added in the notes that I wanted flights on certain dates which i detailed.
You then wait whilst they consider whether your claim is within scope of the scheme and then advise you. Next an adjudicator is appointed. You then are shown BA’s response which was basically a narrative of the booking history and referencing ticket validity t&c’s plus claiming that agreeing to my request was tantamount to offering to book at any point in the future. It all looked cut and paste and boiler plate stuff to me.
You then have an opportunity to respond to BA’s statement, this I believe is crucial as I said previously. The adjudication then follows and you get an email asking you to login and discover your fate. You see a written adjudication which in my case instructed BA to issue tickets at a time of my choice interestingly! This was mid June so ten weeks in all.
BA then rang me and asked when I wanted to rebook for and wanted to book me on BA code share flights with QR, it was fine, a bit of debate on availability but got more or less what I wanted.
I’m a professional but not a lawyer so used to following process which I found clear and straightforward.
Hope this helps anyone else pondering CEDR

in reply to: CEDR loss – BA ticket validity rule

I’ve read this thread with interest and some sympathy as I won a ticket validity case with BA through CEDR as I’ve reported before. Rebooked from Xmas 21 to Xmas 22. The circumstances were similar but perhaps crucially not a second or third rebooking. Clearly Adjudicators while referencing the law take a balanced view of the “rebooking at a time and date of the customers choice” clause with BA arguing in my case and seemingly all others two key points. First, the t&cs on ticket validity and then if that fails, stating that the legislation never intended to offer any date in the future. We can argue whether this is right or wrong but the CEDR fails do seem to be in this zone.
I had one paid change at my request within ticket validity before BA cancelled the Dec 21 flights in autumn 21 and I waited till Jan 22 till the booking window was open before requesting Dec 22 flights to be rebooked.
The CEDR process is favourable to the claimant as besides only risking £25 you have 2 bites at the cherry which you must use effectively. After your written claim, BA responds, in my case refencing ticket validity t&cs, my voluntary paid change within validity and saying that they should not be obligated to offer an open ticket.
Once you’ve seen their argument I believe it is crucial that you address each of their points in your opportunity to reply. I said that I was not offered an alternative flight through manage my booking at the point of cancellation and it was extremely difficult to contact BA at the time and they were asking people not to do so, second I stated the exact dates I wanted which were within a year of the original flights and that we had traveled with BA using Avios at Christmas for a number of years previously and merely wished to take the same a year later. You as claimant have the last word.

And do we yet know if you can book outbound at 355 days then ring in later to add inbound or book online without voucher and ring in and get Avios refunded as per the Amex 241 voucher?

I called Dragon pass about 2 weeks ago – and apparently 2 accounts were set up for me and the one with the free passes had a dummy email address so I wasn’t aware of it. It required me registering my account on my app again after the agent had updated with my details. So I think it must be like that for a lot of people with the 2 profile Barclays issue.

Ours sorted on the phone, the agent said he had sorted 40 of the same problems that day!

Mmm Phuket is in my view dreadful, pricey and downmarket at the same time, partly as a result of the international airport and package tourists. Sadly, in my view Ao Nang (Krabi) which I first visited in 1997 is well on the way to ruination by uncontrolled mass tourism, an international airport again.
Koh Samui on the other hand seems to have managed the tourist influx better than many destinations and whilst very touristy still has a nice vibe for holidaymakers if not travellers.
An island like Phu Quoc is on the other hand a textbook example of how to destroy the very idyll that’s been advertised.
I do agree about staying local where possible, done this many times Thailand and elsewhere.
