@ZACK – there isn’t really much information provided to offer help to you or your family member. They should be entitled to a refund for the cancelled flight but an agent can retain any booking fee and/or refund processing fee. The passenger should get back the cost of the cancelled flight less any such fee. It does sound as though only the flight originating in TLV was cancelled owing to the war, so the status and/or refund for the other flight on a separate ticket is uncertain and complicates matters.

I did ask said family member to send me invoice/breakdown of all costs in the reservation. Will update here once I have those details.

I looked at a few OTA ‘self-transfer’ tickets for a recent trip, the small print placed a lot of the risk on the traveller. One example was that if you missed the second flight and hand’t taken their missed connection insurance cover you were stuffed. Safe to say I didn’t book.

They did actually pay for self-transfer insurance, specifically due to the increased risk of the TLV flight being cancelled/delayed. I did not mention this in my OP as I haven’t seen Kiwi’s T&Cs. Perhaps cancellations due to war are not included in this insurance.

In any case, once I have more details on cost breakdown and Kiwi’s T&Cs I’ll be back with an update.

Very quick and straightforward – hand over your credit card – and you’re away. You just need to decide whether you need single or multiple entry. We did a side trip to Saudi so needed multiple. I wouldn’t recommend Saudi as a side trip – not cost effective in terms of the visa for a couple of days..

Thanks! Just what I was hoping for!

    Isrotel Dead Sea?

There isn’t much to do in that area other than sit back and relax.

Have personally stayed there with an infant and really enjoyed it.

I’d just add to AJA’s pointers, a suggestion to make separate claims for the duty of care items, and the compensation. You don’t want any potential attempts to lie and deny compensation – and reports are that airlines are trying to evade paying due compensation all too frequently – so do separately so that at least there’s a high chance duty of care costs will be reimbursed relatively promptly even if it turns out you’d have to fight for longer for your compensation.

As advised I filed a claim for duty of care first and Ryanair just got back to me approving my claim, no questions asked.
Will file a claim now for the compensation element and update this thread when I hear back!

Assuming you mean Aer Lingus (code EI or EA) not Mandarin Airlines (AE) lol.

I believe it would depend on where you brought your ticket, BA or Aer Lingus? As Aer Lingus are not Oneworld it’s a weird situation where I don’t think they have to honour it if you brought direct with them

Lol. Yes, I meant Aer Lingus. The “Edit” button had disappeared by time I noticed my mistake.

In any case, they did let me in using my BA Status. I booked directly with EI.

You MUST go to Manchester though ….

    It’s a one-way award and would be HBO…

Try DXB to a regional like MAN via LHR for extra availability and travel HBO…..

Did not know about this trick. It actually worked! Thanks so much!

This may be a stupid question in which case my apologies in advance. I’ve booked a flight with BA as an Exec Club member and am now seeking to add accommodation after the booking has been confirmed (also via the BA website. Will this qualify for the double points offer? Or did I need to book the accommodation at thwe same time as the flight?

The terms clearly state they must be booked together.

I’ve just had an email from Paypal informing me that a F&F payment had failed. This was supposed to be taken from a current account. Due to the failure it then took the funds from Amex instead. It’s a couple of payments £60 + £40. I guess I can’t change the funding source of the £60 + £40 now.

The transactions are pending on Amex.

In the past 12 months I’ve done 3 other F&F transaction from Amex – guitar lessons for my son: approx £250 in total. The invoices asked for payment via F&F – which in hindsight perhaps I was foolish to do so. Having read other posts on here about Amex reviews and F&F I won’t be doing anymore.

I’ve now deleted Amex from Paypal to avoid this happening in future.

I presume I need to take this on the chin and accept the risk of it triggering a review.

Relax…You’re unlikely to get a review for such amounts IMO.

Booked a BA Holiday with outbound being flown on 23rd of May. Inbound was originally booked for a week later on May 30th, however I ended up changing the inbound to July 4th.
Not sure if this is the norm but thought it was odd that BA credited the double points of the Outbound before the Inbound was flown.

Of all the BA Holiday’s I’ve completed it never took more than a few days for the double points to post.

Should I be concerned that BA have not yet credited the double points for the Inbound portion of the flight?

What is the best form of contact to chase this up?

You need to fill in the online form and wait for them to get back to you to confirm.

Strongly recommend looking up availability via another partner airline before making a request though.

That seems so backwards. Why wouldn’t they make it easier/more convenient to book partner awards? (Currently also looking to book a OW partner award with Avios and trying to figure out which airline would be best doing so i.e. BA, Iberia or Qatar)

Are you looking at back to back flights at NCL or AMS?

The flight to and from NCL are very likely back to back as there’s only 55 mins between them, but surely Google shouldn’t be displaying it as an option if that’s the issue.
Strangely I have actually plugged in the exact same itinerary on BA and it is bookable that way, it’s just significantly more expensive.
There must be a way to book at the GF quoted price, no?

Yes. Assuming you book flights and car at the same time and trip is before end of 2023.

    Thank you

Looking at booking a 2 week trip to SOF. Will I qualify for double TP’s if I book a car for only the first 5 nights of the trip, and will these automatically post?

You need to call BAEC not the main BA flights or BA holidays lines

BTW a qualifying trip is 5 nights not 5 days.

    Thanks. Meant 5 nights.

Is there a specific number to call to get the double tier points manually credited?

When I booked 5 day flight + car and the promo banner didn’t show up they told me on the phone it does qualify but would probably need to call for a manual credit. The main line I called yesterday got me through to unhelpful call centre abroad.

Glad it was resolved. But a financial review? Did you tell a porky during initial application? Some figures Amex wasn’t happy? We’ve been getting a lot of closed accounts recently due to self employed enlarging figures.

Do you still hold Amex personal products?

Regardless of what I stated in the application, I never gave them the documents they asked for during the FR stage, hence why they closed the account.
I did not hold any personal cards at the time but I don’t think that makes a difference. As far as I’m aware when a FR is triggered it will be across all cards, regardless of business or personal, happy to be corrected though.

How long had you had the card? I’m a bit confused about why you would be getting a balance transfer refunded, I’m wondering if that’s why Amex didn’t seem to know what to do with it.

I didn’t get a balance transfer refunded. Before I closed my account I paid off part of the balance by transferring it to another card. Amex later wanted proof of the payment methods I used to pay off my cc bill.

Friend of mine reapplied several days after his account got closed and was approved instantly. When my accounts were shut down they advised I can apply “whenever I want but best to wait a year”

Re. PayPal catching on, they most definitely are in my experience. On my account they now warn that cash advance fees will be incurred for FF transfers when using credit cards as payment source.

Being skeptical I did it anyway and one card was actually hit with a cash advance fee. (a card I’d used no problem till now)

You get the bonus immediately – ie as soon as the transaction which takes you across the spending threshold hits your Amex account.

Obviously with co-brand cards like the BA ones you’d still need to wait a couple of weeks for them to be transferred across, but with Membership Rewards cards they are yours to spend immediately.

    That’s great! Thanks Rob!
