Sometimes it might be bad IT. I previously booked BA avios flights on Finnair twice when there were avios tickets available on Finnair but not showing on BA.

Wasn’t the Finnair route specified in Rob’s article? It really shows the impact of the readership and how successfully and influential HFP has become!

So sorry if I’m being a dimwit about this – first time I’ve done a status match like this.

So I’ve got my Silver Jay/ Oneworld Bronze match sorted and now want to do the seat selection for our BA flights in a week’s time. I can’t see how to manage those flights through the Jordanian Royal Club or how to apply my new status at BA.com… guidance very welcome from anyone who has the time! Thank you.

–Step 1. Use your BA booking reference number on RJ or RAM MMB and change your BA Frequent Flyer number to your RJ number.

–Step 2. 7 days before your flight, go to BA MMB to select your seat.
You can ignore these error messages from both BA and RJ because of their rubbish IT.

If you want to check if the update was successful or not after step 1, give it 10 minutes and go to Qantas MMB and see if the RJ number is displayed or not.

Some people are unhappy about this because they have spent £1000s on tier point runs, but RJ allows anyone to spend $49/$149 to get the equivalent status. RJ may not do this again.

As the above comments clearly outlined. RJ silver, doesn’t give you BA bronze. It only gives the benefits of BA bronze if you add RJ frequent flyer number to your BA bookings. So you can select seats for free 7 days before the flights.

If you want to get BA avois and tier points for a cash booking, it’s best to change the frequent flyer numbers back to your BA numbers at online checkin or check in counter at the airport. For reward bookings, it doesn’t matter if you change it back or not as you won’t earn any avios anyway.

I added RJ gold to my BA avois economy ticket yesterday, the boarding pass shows oneworld sapphire priority and I was able to use the fast track security and the lounge with my economy ticke by Just scanning the boarding pass.

People who have spent £1000s on tier points runs may not think this RJ status matching a good thing. But they may want/hope RJ does this status match again when their status expires.

Interesting. Was the MMB issue on Finnair related to this? Or BA booking references are overwhelming Finnair’s Amadeus? I can still find my CX and QA bookings on Finnair.
RAM and Sri Lankan don’t require call centres, it takes just 20 seconds by using the online manage my booking.

Or just use RAM or Sri Lankan MMB.

On RAM, I had to re-type my email and mobile number (starting with 7 without the first 0). After saving RJ FFnumbers, you can check/validate on another one world MMB to see if RJ number is showing or not. It’s all instant. BA MMB always shows BA numbers, but selecting seats becomes free.

I got my status match via IHG approved last Wednesday, just an hour before they pulled the hotel to gold sparrow off. It’s now showing gold in the RJ app. I previously added RJ card (when it was bronze) to my Apple wallet, but it is still showing bronze after it’s showing gold in RJ app. I deleted it from my Apple wallet and now can’t add the gold one back. But it’s showing in the app anyway, so I’m not bothered.

Lots of people saying they can’t load their BA booking on Finnair anymore, I had the same issue, but I was able to use RJ or Sri Lankan manage my booking and change the frequent flyer number. It doesn’t show on BA, but if I check the same booking on other one world manage my booking (Qantas is the best) I can see RJ numbers.

Just selected all the seats for all my future BA trips. 8 of them are avios tickets. Now I’m getting like 20 emails from BA telling me “confirmation of seat change”.

Overall, I’m happy. Not ideal that BA doesn’t allow switching FFN on its own website. I hope it works for others too. I wonder if BA’s £700 million investment on IT would add this simple but useful function. I don’t expect BA to go above and beyond, but at least I hope BA can have functions other airlines have on their apps.

I guess it’s very rare. Even if it happens, you have a strong case to call BA and be rebooked on a later Cathay flights and claim EU261. Or Qatar. Cathay has 5 or 6 direct HKG-LHR flights throughout the day.

This is the response I received from the executive office:

    “Hello Timothy,

    Thank you for your email.

    I hope you are well.

I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you in regard to your cancelled flight.

EC261 Compensation does not apply to this booking / cancellation as on this occasion the flight has been cancelled outside 14 days of departure.

As you have booked this ticket as a reward flight, we are unable to rebook you on another reward flight with another airline.

You have the option to apply for a refund.”

    shocking

Also shocked! Is this becuase the executive office thought OP was asking for compensation?

I have booked a trip, flying VA from Shanghai to London, and BA from London to Hong Kong, I got emails from both BA and VA saying they were cancelled last week (I know! how disappointing!). When I called last Friday, BA offered Qatar, Swiss or LH for re-routing, and VA offered BA or Scandinavian. Both agents handle the re-booking quite nicely.

It’s a shame that some of the comments here show a clear inconsistency in VA’s customer service quality. I’d suggest call again in the mid/late afternoon when the Indian/SE Aisa call centre (i assume is outsoucres) is closed, but the UK local team is still open, to get a higher chance of good agents.

Avios should refund right after the cancellation, if not, you need to call again, and find an agent knows how to process the cancellation properly. It happened to me a few times, as I needed the avios to book another flight.
If not urgent, you can just wait for a few days and see if the back office picks up the refund requet.

Also just been rebooked on BA without any trouble. Called this afternoon, been told I can choose refund, BA, or scandinavian airlines. rebooked to BA within 5 mins. Same booking reference number but I can see teh flight details are changed, in BA R class. Felt like the call agent has a better understanding of the EU261 than Whoever sent that “I’m sorry” email.

Yes, they are ex-Cathay seats, still better than BA old club seats. Seat selection isn’t free. Booking class was R. Qatar changes aircraft randomly, so I don’t plan to pay for seat selection.

I was moved to the earlier BA 32 by the app, it’s a 787-9 with old club seats. I called BA and asked if they can put me on a partner flight, they offered Qatar, but not Cathay. I took it. Still think it’s better to have two Qsuite seats and take a short break in Doha, than 15 hours in the old seat. Hopefully no Qatar plane change

Tried to book rewards tickets online, and the system didn’t work, then I called to book, the agent told me that their system is down, and they can’t book any rewards tickets and asked me to call again tomottow… mmmmm… guess it’s having a bad hangover from their 40s birthday party

Website came back, and the required points are much lower than expected. 45k points return in upper class to Shanghai! 21k in premium. I thought it was IT issues, and called VS to book. been told that the points were correct and can be used together with credit card vouchers too. Quite a discount! And don’t have to wait for tomorrow!

Wouldn’t the underlying cards block the transactions anyway? Or is CURVE passing on a different MCC with the 1% charge?

in reply to: BA companion voucher – two one way tickets?
    ZW 48 posts

Have you not answered your own question? You can use it for two people as a one way but that would be wasting half the voucher as it could also be used for the return?

Yes I did answer my own question. The single person usage also seems to be a waste as you’re only getting the discount on 2 legs not 4.

But do you know the answers to any of my other questions?

Single person 1/2 price on 2 legs is exactly the same as 2 people half price on 4 legs, how is it a waste?

How is that “exactly the same” or am I miscalculating?

    1 person 2 legs: 60k + £150 without voucher, 30k + £150 with voucher
    Saving 30k

    2 people 4 legs total: 120k + £300 without voucher, 60k + £300 with voucher
    Saving 60k

Depends on how you interpret “saving”, the savings per person is excatly the same.
    Without voucher: 60k + £150 per person
    With voucher:
    option 1, 30k + £150 per person
    option 2, 30k + £150 per person

    Some people always travel solo.

in reply to: Curve changes from November 10th

Some reddit people have stated they did £3k fronted at beginning of March and did a test transaction after the announcement and it had no fronted fee. Could be that the limit is reset today, then reset again 1St April.

I’ve used up my 3k front last week. I just did a test with front on, and got charged 2.5%. So had to GBIT..

I had the same issue. Logged a complaint with HSBC in early January. Just got a call from them telling me they no longer work with iPass, there is no replacement yet, and no compensation.

When BA’s move to RFS for club, they added huge carrier-imposed surcharge for some airports which do not charge much tax, but not for first class. I took a frist class from Hong Kong to London in August when cash element was only £34 plus 120k avios, but club was charging about £300 plus 110k avios. I think SIN is another example where first avios tickets might be almost the same, or even cheaper than club.

I just checked on seat spy, there is a first class ticket on 22 July from SIN to LHR on BA16, 140k avio plus £291. Club price is 120k avios plus £291
