Air India unveils its new livery

We don’t cover Air India much on Head for Points, even though it is a member of Star Alliance, but we thought you might be interested in seeing the new livery which has just launched.

Air India is currently in the middle of a huge transformation under the new ownership of Tata Group, with a brand new long haul fleet due to be in place by the end of 2026. The catchphrase is “transforming a national institution into a national inspiration”.

New AIr India livery

The airline has 470 aircraft on order from Airbus and Boeing, worth a stunning $70 billion at list price, with the first due to arrive this November. Completely new lounges are under construction in Delhi and at New York JFK and a brand new loyalty programme is coming in 2024.

The new logo is here:

…. and you can see the new livery above (click to enlarge).

I will spare you the PR guff about what it represents (“captures the essence of a bold new India” etc) but it does feel sleek and modern and sets the groundwork for what the airline hopes to achieve over the coming years.

Both myself and my mother’s account got nothing for that “spin the wheel” thing a couple of days ago.

  • Will says:

Something went wrong please try again. Repeat. Repeat.

    • Retron says:

Ditto – can’t sign in, can’t register, even uninstalling and reinstalling doesn’t work. And the spinner doesn’t appear on the desktop website. Oh well, more chance for everyone else to win, I guess!

      • Nick says:

I had issues with the app too, but on the desktop website it worked perfectly.

        No win though!

    • Andrew. says:

It passes a token from the App to the website and sometimes it does go wrong.

Clear the cache/cookies, click through again, and login. Worked for me.

    • RussellH says:

I almost always get the “Something went wrong” message when logging in to Nectar. It usually actually means that it is taking me through to the actual login page, rather than waiting for all the guff to load on the home page.

  • TimM says:

    I got nothing too.

  • Sundar says:

Long live the Maharajah. Hopefully the “fattyness” is gone, the new livery looks sleeeeeekkkkk 🙂

    • Manya says:

The Maharajah was iconic along with his ‘namaste’ greeting that all the cabin crew followed when welcoming you onto the plane.

Modernising the branding is all good but I hope they don’t lose the identity which represents the country of the airline.

My Tesco balance is around 160 points, and most of that is because my mother uses one of my cards for infrequent shops there.
Helps keep my Virgin account alive with the odd transfer.

The supermarket in general doesn’t appeal to me these days. Not tempted quite as much by Clubcard prices compared to Avios earning (Sainsbury pretty much giving me the best of both worlds although not quite as lucrative as Tesco used to be)

    • lumma says:

With the bonus nectar points I can easily get at least 500 Avios a week from Sainsbury’s. I could never get that many from Tesco, even with the 2.4 exchange rate

    • Peter K says:

Virgin points don’t expire now. You don’t need to keep them alive with activity any more.

  • Philondon says:

    No win.

  • Richie says:

No win. It’s a bit meh.

  • Indy500 says:

Oh well, does not show in my or OH’s account on mobiles or desktop. Pffft.
