Good European football hospitality deals available from Travelzoo

This is slightly off topic for us, except that I know many HfP readers like to redeem their miles and points for VIP Premier League hospitality.

The two obvious routes for this are (click for our articles):

Travelzoo football deals

Travelzoo has a corner of its site which sells unsold football hospitality packages. This was very active during covid as many corporates did not want to encourage social mixing but the options have been a lot thinner this year.

However, Travelzoo has just added a bunch of European games for the next couple of months – the sort of games which never get a full house, even for the biggest clubs. There are also two Carabao Cup games.

What you get varies by what you pay. Take a look at the small print of each game.

Packages currently available as of last night include:

  • Manchester United vs Crystal Palace, 28th September – from £40
  • Manchester City vs Young Boys, 7th November – £59
  • Liverpool vs Leicester City, 27th September – £167
  • Arsenal vs Sevilla, 8th November – £244
  • Manchester United vs Galatasaray, 3rd October – from £67
  • Arsenal vs RC Lens, 29th November – £244
  • Liverpool vs Union SG, 5th October – £167
  • Manchester United vs Copenhagen, 24th October – from £87

£60 just to reserve a seat is an absolute scam. It seems VA are learning from BA on how to fleece their passengers.

    • Tom R says:

VS have slipped big time IMO. I flew premium recently and it was not that good, good was poor, service was not great.. And that’s after some lengthy hassle at getting a reward ticket changed too. It also took them nearly 3 weeks to refund the original taxes from the reward ticket that was ticketed. Previous time I typed to fly VS my flight was cancelled short notice (at midnight whilst sleeping for an early departure the next morning) despite a pretty predictable wind storm which caused numerous cancellations. There were no suitable rebooking options for 2 days without doing an 18hr flight with a stop in LAX to get do what should have been a 10h flight. Furthermore they then got out of EU(UK)261 based on weather. I flew out the same day on another carrier with no issue. If they’re up to this shenanigans I’m done bothering to fly with them again, as it is premium isn’t exactly cheap so to not include seat selection is just greedy, just like BA charging for J seats

  • Jim Utd says:

Virgin have been charging for some premium seating for about a year now. You covered this in August 2022. Have you forgotten?

  • Mark says:

They’ve also started releasing only 2 seats in Upper on premium dates, which is rubbish.

    • Rob says:

Two is the guarantee and better than it was a year ago when there was no guarantee.

    • AL says:

Admittedly, non-peak date, but my flight this morning opened up 6 UCs within 12 hours of departure. I think it does get better, with a view to keeping the 2 for a longer period until departure.

  • m says:

Regarding Arsenal tickets via Skywards, is there a way to top up someone’s Emirates account?
By the way, these tickets are very expensive these days (25k for a standard ticket) but he has some miles that are expiring.

  • Dirtyneedlebluesky says:

I guess it depends what you define as hospitality, and this will be fine for some, but the City tickets offering the 93:20 lounge doesn’t include any fee food or drinks.

    • Rob says:

I think, for the money, you’re still laughing.

    • Mark says:

Its also being able to get a ticket. I have stopped paying to be an official Man Utd “member” which gives you the ability to apply for normal tickets as they go within milliseconds of going on sale. When you add up the cost of being a member, plus the cost of a ticket and getting some food at the ground it isn’t actually much more to buy a hospitality package through here.

  • lumma says:

“I don’t see why you’d pay”. You’d pay because all the decent free seats have already been booked and you want to sit next to your travel companion in a window pair.

    • Tom R says:

Have they been intentionally blocked too? I’ve come across a few times large sections of cabins being almost full… then when waiting to check in rather than paying, miraculously a whole load of extra seats are now not blocked off when I go to check in 24h before. Better still setting a seat alert on expertflyer has usually bagged me a window seat I wanted anyway despite the cabin supposedly being full except some middle seats at the back or paid for seats near the front. This has not just happened on one airline either (I believe EI, BA & possibly AA too I’ve observed this). I swear some are doing this on purpose, I wish it was easy to prove as such. I’m sure someone will take this to court at some point in the future if this hasn’t happened already?

      • Rob says:

This is deliberate. Seats are held back so people who book late (and pay the highest fares) can have a good seat. Annoying the sort of customer who pays £500 last minute to fly to Frankfurt isn’t smart.

  • John G says:

Slightly OT, does anyone know when VS will start flying to ICN? It tends to be slim pickings for redemptions on KE so VS coming along with guaranteed award seats will be ideal.

    • Rob says:

May not happen now if the Asiana and Korean merger is officially pulled, as is becoming more likely.

  • Super Secret Stuff says:

There’s also the IC Berlin on travel zoo, Brew dog meal, a few regional brand name hotels etc.
