London Gatwick has become the first airport in the UK to open a dedicated charging station for electric cars.

The new state-of-the-art GRIDSERVE facility has 30 high-power and low-power vehicle chargers, available 24 hours a day. The fastest chargers can add 100 miles of range in 10 minutes.

It is located on Ring Road South at London Gatwick’s South Terminal and adjacent to the M23.

Gatwick Airport opens a dedicated EV charging area

Whilst you wait, there is high-speed Wi-Fi, a lounge area, Costa Coffee, a Little Fresh convenience store and ‘an interactive EV experience area’.

The facility is not exclusively for passengers and can also be used by local residents, commuters and businesses.

The building is open every day from 4.30am to 10.00pm, with chargers available 24/7 year-round.

Selling avios points surely is very strange legal territory. AGL effectively sell you something for a defined cash price that they can devalue at any moment unilaterally without any obligation to offer a refund.

Has a devaluation of previously purchased points ever been tested in law?

It would surely be a huge reassurance and at least an attempt to transparently cover liability by defining an annual and cumulative rate of devaluation in the terms (eg in line with inflation or something else broadly linked to the cost of travel)

Of course there’s then the can of worms with the stealth devaluation of “other charges”

Most people on here probably know what they are getting in for more or less with this. Is this true of the average avios account holder?

    • Mikeact says:

Probably not, if my neighbours are anything to go by.

    • Erico1875 says:

We are mere plebs. Who could predict Liz Truss would tank the pensions and then fk the housing market.
I collect and buy Avios based on how I see value NOW.
Any devaluation, I recon will be pro rata to prices, inflation

  • Matthias says:

First 300k Avios is around 0.9p per Avios. Remainder is around 1.8p

There’s a link on the page with the exact details

I haven’t used Balance Boost before. If I Balance Boost 100,000 Avios I earned last year at three times to receive 300,000 Avios for 0.92p/Avios, when is the next time I will be able to Balance Boost Avios at 0.92p (i.e. when does the 300,000 Avios allowance renew)?

    • Rob says:

The ANNUAL cap is 300k. The question is whether this boost counts towards 2023 (as you’re boosting 2023 earned Avios) or 2024.

      • HH says:

Seems to be 2024, as I had boosted by 80k last week and it would only let me boost by another 220k at 0.92p. So now all my 2024 spend will remain unboosted unless they run this again in Jan 25.

  • Paul says:

The IHG offer is working seamlessly. I saved 15k points on a stay in Aus in Feb. However there is also reduction on cash segment of the “points plus cash” as well. It may be due to the points element rolling into the cash but whichever you work it seams to total a 15 % saving

  • tomasz says:

    Hello,
Could you guys explain how you calculate the boosted avios, please?
    Example: I have 250
    3xboost will be 750 for £6.90
Does it mean that at the end I will have 1000 (750+250) avios for the price of 0.0092 (£6.90/750)?
    Thanks for the help.

    • Rob says:

You can buy 3x the amount you earned in 2023 (during this offer). Normally you can buy 3x what you earned in the last 30 days.

If you earned 250 Avios in 2023 the new promo will let you buy 750, at 0.92p.

  • Charlotte says:

Hi Rob, the 2023 balance boost feature is not working today (it was yesterday!). Today we only see the last 30 days transactions as normal. Yesterday it showed 2023 in full (I did not do it yesterday as was “sleeping on it”!! Anyway you can use your magic powers and step in and help to get this fixed before the offer expires at midnight today? I have tried to get in contact with balance boost but do not seem to be able to! 15 days response time on the “contact us” type form! Thank you very much.

  • Wendy says:

Yesterday I went into Balance Boost and all of my 2023 points were there and available to boost. Today, they’ve disappeared and only the last 30 days are available to boost, yet the 2023 offer is still live. Anyone else having this problem?

  • Traumahawk007 says:

Boosted mine yesterday but tried to do for my Wife and only showing the last month to boost. Must have a bug in the system. Can somebody else have a look.

    • Kris says:

I’m getting the same. Only flights and Credit Card / Bank Account earnings from last month. Clicked on “contact” and put details in. Helpful message saying a reply will come in the next 15 days.

    • QFlyer says:

Yeah thread on Flyertalk is saying the same. I’m only seeing the last 30 days again now, despite the offer still being live for around 14 hours. Lets’ see how many complaints this generates for BA, even when they try and do something right they screw it up.
