Fiji Airways has announced it will become a full member of the oneworld airline alliance. It will be the alliance’s 15th full member when it completes the transition next summer.
Joining oneworld changes less than you think because Fiji Airways is already a member of oneworld connect, a more casual and less onerous way to take advantage of some of the network benefits of joining an alliance. It has been possible to earn and spend Avios on Fiji Airways since 2022.
Having spent six years as the only oneworld connect airline, Fiji Airways has decided to make the jump to full membership. Joining oneworld will mean deeper integration with the alliance but also more guaranteed benefits for oneworld status holders including priority boarding, baggage, lounge access and more.
It will also allow members of ALL oneworld frequent flyer schemes to earn and spend miles with Fiji Airways. This was currently restricted to a small number, although British Airways was included.
Fiji Airways has a good reputation and operates a wider network than you might think, although sadly there are no direct flights to Europe (yet – we will have to see if this changes with oneworld membership!)
Key long-haul routes include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Hong Kong, Singapore, Honolulu, Tokyo and a number of destinations in Australia and New Zealand. This may make them an option if you are interested in an alternative way to get to Australasia.
The fleet includes a number of brand new Airbus A350s. These have a stylish 1-2-1 business class cabin based on the same Collins Aerospace platform as BA’s Club Suite, albeit without a door.
