easyJet offers British Airways elite members a special deal to defect

easyJet is the latest airline to make a move for elite members of British Airways Executive Club.

(And there’s more to come – look out for some status match news very soon!)

If you have Bronze, Silver or Gold status in British Airways Executive Club, you can get your first year of easyJet Plus membership for half price – £122.

easyJet Plus half price deal for British Airways customers

This is what easyJet Plus offers:

  • Free seat selection – this is a genuine cash saving given that easyJet seating fees can reach £40 per one-way flight.  This only applies to the member and NOT to other people travelling on the same booking.  It includes premium seats, ie the front and exit rows.
  • Free speedy boarding
  • Fast track security at 46 airports
  • Access to ‘fast bag drop’ desks at selected airports
  • A free large cabin baggage item (maximum 56cm x 45cm x 25cm) – remember that easyJet usually only allows you to bring a small under-seat piece of cabin baggage onto the aircraft (45cm x 36cm x 20cm)
  • Free switch to an earlier flight home, subject to availability and only bookable after you have flown your outbound leg
  • 10% off bistro items
easyJet Plus offer for British Airways elite members

These benefits can be purchased separately for one-off easyJet flights (although switching to an earlier flight home now seems to be restricted to FLEXI ticket holders) so easyJet Plus only makes sense for regular travellers. In particular, the ability to bring on a free large cabin bag is valuable for many.

There is one extra benefit which is now exclusive to easyJet Plus customers:

  • Price Promise – if your flight drops in price after you’ve booked, you can request a refund of the difference.  This will be in the form of an easyJet credit voucher.  It only applies to your seat and not any family members travelling with you.

The problem with easyJet Plus ….

…. is that the benefits only apply to you.  If you have a British Airways status card, the benefits generally apply to everyone travelling with you and not just yourself (British Airways lounge access is limited to just one guest).

With easyJet Plus, whilst my own seat selection would be free I would need to pay for family members travelling with me. My family wouldn’t be joining me in the Fast Track security line or the ‘speedy boarding’ queue either.

easyJet Plus discount for British Airways members

What I think ….

…. is that easyJet has not gone far enough.

British Airways is giving easyJet a ‘once in a decade’ opportunity to pick up its short-haul customers. Offering easyJet Plus for half price isn’t, to me, pushing as hard as it could.

easyJet should be offering one year of totally free easyJet Plus membership. Perhaps not to BA Bronze members, but certainly to Silver and Gold.

After all, this is a subscription product. People who give it a try and see the value will remain easyJet Plus customers for 3 …. 5 …. perhaps 10 years, at £249 per year.

Giving them one free year to try it makes sense.

Giving them 51% off …. less so.

Another interesting option would have been to offer the half-price deal to anyone with a British Airways American Express or Barclaycard Avios credit card. After all, you can be a fairly regular short haul economy flyer with BA and still not hit Bronze status.

Whoever is advising easyJet on this does not understand the dynamics of the market. Hopefully we will see easyJet launch a more compelling offer early in 2026 as many Gold and Silver cards head towards expiry, with no hope of renewal.

How to join

Full details on easyJet Plus can be found on their website here.

In order to get the 51% discount, you need to email easyJet by 12th March for a promotional code.

You will then have until 31st March to apply, via the standard application form, using the promo code you were sent.

There is a special easyJet website for British Airways Executive Club members which you can find here.

  • NorthernLass says:

I think this is really lame offer, and my local airport, of course, is MAN where far more EZ departures take place than BA ones!
Basically it’s no use unless you’re a solo traveller, or happy to be in the best seat while your companions get randomly allocated middle seats between 2 strangers.

    • NorthernLass says:

*However, the headline made me snort with laughter, so thanks for that!

    • Barrel for Scraping says:

To be pedantic EZ haven’t flown from MAN for a while. They only fly between LCY and BLL currently

    • CheshirePete says:

EasyJet’s own Headline funnier I think!

‘ easyJet “No More Tiers” Promotion ‘

      • CheshirePete says:

On 2nd thoughts they would have made it funnier as “No More Tears”

    • Duncan says:

Think playing down the solo traveller part is misguided.
It’s exactly those solo business traveller they’re after with this, not the bucket and spade two weeks in the sun.

      • NorthernLass says:

It would only be misguided if I were a solo traveller, which 90% of the time I’m not. Nor am I a 2 weeks in the sun once a year pax either. If the benefits extended to a travel companion, they might well get 3/4 trips per year out of me.

        • David says:

From your chat here, it seems you’re quite regularly solo flying on your tier point trips. And then often flying separated from other half when on the same flight. I would have thought this would be ideal for you.

        • Duncan says:

I don’t think the offer was aimed at you in particular.

    • John says:

Well some couples may both have BA status. Having to shell out £244 may be a bit of a turn off but it might work for some

    • Ramsey says:

EasyJet, unlike Ryanair do not split up groups deliberately. So the rest of your party will be sat together assuming you don’t check in last minute and only random middle seats are left.

  • James says:

As Rob has said, EZ has missed a huge trick!! A Once in a lifetime op to scoop up loads of members! Offer it 1 year free to Silver and above, and give more benefits. Yes EZ might feel they are giving too much intially, however if BA members seen value thereafter, they are more likely to stay and pay the £250 yearly fee. Short sighted I say

    • Dubious says:

I think EasyJet are being a bit savvy.

I don’t think they are targeting every single potential BA Silver or Gold Card Holder.

I think they want to try to attract the *potential* defectors – to nudge over the line those customers who might already thinking about EasyJet, but haven’t (psychologically) committed to a decision.

I think they also want the customer that are most likely to actually stick with EasyJet in the longer run; even when the subscription comes up for renewal. Those customers are presumably the customer who are more willing to spend a bit now, as compared to those who might use them for a year if they had provided the service for free.

Trying to scatter gun everyone may not result in that many passengers actually using EasyJet in the long run once the subscription comes up for renewal.

As others have said, part of the scheme’s appeal is also the psychological aspect of the sunk cost fallacy; to make use of something you have ^invested^ in before it expires, rather than something you got for free.

      • Rob says:

Don’t think so. Those who are willing to pay £122 arguably already fly easyJet a bit and so know what Plus gives.

Someone who never flies easyJet isn’t putting up £122 upfront.

  • jonr405 says:

I was actually looking at this the other day given how egregious EZY’s carry-on bag charges have become. At the time I thought £250 was too much to spend on a benefit I might use in the future. As with most others, I’ll have BA status until 31 March 26… So this should really have been launched in a year’s time

    • babyg_wc says:

dont agree – right now is a good time (plus they can do it again in a year) – i too have BA statuts till the 26th, but have already moved my flight habits away from BA, i would have flown at least 12 BA segments this year (based on previous years), but ive flown none…. as i find the price i pay to use my BA benefits no longer stacks up, it kind of made sense when i knew it would go someway to renewing my status..

      • jonr405 says:

For short haul I’m burning avios in Y, and using status to use the lounge. Given what we have seen today from Lufty, I want to make sure I get value from the BA status I’ve already earned. Switching revenue flights now to EZY might happen, but not on a large enough scale to justify paying for this now.

      • John says:

I think as EZY doesn’t have a traditional loyalty scheme they don’t really understand how BAEC works

        • FlyingTayto says:

I think you are underestimating Easyjet there.

It is pretty simple to understand how loyalty schemes work as members, I’ve no doubt Easyjet have the knowledge & likely many BA Status holders within their senior management teams.

  • Niall says:

I like EasyJet’s Flight club benefits! But considering I met the criteria to qualify and more only to discover EasyJet suspended any new invites (‘due to Covid’ even long after Covid), I went running back to BA. Can’t say this offer is even close to making me want to use easyJet more.

  • BSI1978 says:

More intrigued by Rob’s teasing that other status matches are coming down the line…..

  • memesweeper says:

This did make me laugh… anyone at Waterside been fired yet?

I hanker after the good old days of EasyJet FlightClub — though it seems you can no longer join…

    • Josh B says:

Wasn’t it always just invitation only? It’s still active and quite a handy thing to have – would be nice if they upped the game there and added some better perks but that said it’s free so I’m not complaining

  • John says:

kinda embarrasing for easyjet marketing team no? a few quid discount when im spending 20k a year with BA isnt going to get me to try them. And I sure am not sending ID through non encrypted channel. what a fail.

The Virgin offer isn’t anymore interesting.
It’s like all 3 airlines here have no clue how to make people happy…

    depressing

    no wonder AFKLM are winning.

Got a match with them to Platinum and used it a few times.

    • FlyingTayto says:

If you’re spending 20k with BA then you aren’t their target audience as you’ll retain Gold anyway.

It is the short haul couples who current make Silver or the weekly business shuttle passengers between Northern Ireland & Scotland who they are targeting surely?

      • John33 says:

Exactly. It’s the people who fly often and on very short routes where ticket prices are cheap. I fly over 50 times a year every year and never spend anywhere near to £20k.

  • Paul says:

I have flown Easy jet once, never flown Ryan Air and have a fast expiring BA gold card from flying BAs version of those airlines. All the chaos without the charm!

Intrigued by the status match opportunities that may be coming through.

And really looking forward to an analysis of the best one world alternative programme. Is it Iberia or is AY a contender…they certainly have a better way of handling the transfer of Avios.
