Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar have launched the two-way transfer partnership that was announced last October.

Marriott Bonvoy has always been happy for members to transfer their points to other schemes. It has 39 airline transfer partners – more than any other hotel programme – and attractive transfer rates.

Marriott Bonvoy has now added Nectar as a transfer partner, allowing members to transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to Nectar points, and vice versa. This sees Nectar become the first ‘everyday earn’ partner for Marriott Bonvoy in the UK.

Let’s take a look at the sign up bonuses and the ongoing transfer rates.

For most HfP readers, the key benefit is the ability to earn up to 1,500 Nectar points every programme year from completing up to three Marriott Bonvoy cash stays.

There are two bonuses for linking your accounts

Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar are offering two incentives for linking your accounts.

It is worth taking advantage of these bonuses even if you currently have no intention of transferring points between the schemes. It’s free points, after all!

The first bonus is only for new members of Marriott Bonvoy, but the second one – the most generous – is open to all.

New to Marriott Bonvoy? Get 500 Nectar points for joining

The first incentive is for anyone who does not have a Marriott Bonvoy account (less likely if you are a HfP reader).

To receive a bonus of 500 Nectar points, you need to visit Nectar first (the Nectar landing page is here) and join Marriott Bonvoy from their link.

There is no need to stay at a Marriott Bonvoy hotel to receive the bonus. You get 500 Nectar points just for opening a Marriott Bonvoy account from Nectar, and your accounts will automatically be linked.

Even if you don’t have a plan for the Nectar points, you can transfer them back to Marriott and receive 250 Marriott Bonvoy points!

There is no end date to this offer.

If you are not yet a Marriott Bonvoy member then you can find out more in our guide to the Marriott Bonvoy programme here and how to make the most of it here.

Nectar Marriott Bonvoy partnership launched

Open to everyone – get 500 Nectar points on your first three Marriott stays in every programme year

After you have linked your Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar accounts, you will receive 500 Nectar points on each of your first three Marriott Bonvoy hotel stays in any programme year.

This offer is available to everyone, irrespective of how long they have been members of Nectar and Marriott Bonvoy. It is not restricted to new members.

Here’s the small print:

  • The Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar partnership programme year starts, and refreshes, on 17th July each year
  • You must complete your three Marriott Bonvoy stays between 17th July one year and 16th July the next to receive your full complement of three bonuses for that year
  • Only cash stays will receive 500 bonus Nectar points – stays booked with Marriott Bonvoy points will not qualify
  • Your Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar accounts must be linked for 24 hours before booking, to enable your stay to qualify for the bonus
  • Your bonus Nectar points will arrive in your Nectar account within seven days of check-out
  • You can earn a maximum of 1,500 Nectar points from this promotion every programme year
  • You will receive your standard Marriott Bonvoy points and elite night credits as usual

You should sign up for this offer even if you have no interest in Nectar points, because at the very least you can transfer your 1,500 bonus Nectar points back to Marriott and receive 750 Marriott Bonvoy points!

What is the transfer rate between Nectar and Marriott Bonvoy?

Full details can be found on this page of the Nectar website.

The rates are:

  • 2 Marriott Bonvoy points get you 1 Nectar point
  • 2 Nectar points get you 1 Marriott Bonvoy point

Whilst transfers work in both directions, there is a loss of value if you transfer from Nectar to Marriott and then decide to transfer back to Nectar, or vice versa. You should only make a transfer if you are fairly confident that you won’t want to reverse it.

Here’s the small print:

  • You need to link your Nectar and Marriott Bonvoy accounts, from the Nectar website
  • Your Marriott Bonvoy account must be registered in the UK
  • You can link your Nectar account to your Marriott Bonvoy account even if you have already linked it to an Avios account – the Avios link will remain in place
  • Your name, email address and home address must match between your Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar accounts for the link to succeed
  • There is a minimum transfer of 500 Marriott Bonvoy points into Nectar points, and in multiples of 100 Marriott Bonvoy points thereafter
  • There is a minimum transfer of 500 Nectar points into Marriott Bonvoy points, and in multiples of 100 Nectar points thereafter
  • Nectar allows a maximum of 10 individual, manual points conversions daily to any of their partners, including Marriott Bonvoy, up to a maximum of 100,000 Nectar points per day
  • Marriott Bonvoy allows unlimited, manual points conversions to Marriott Bonvoy partners including Nectar, up to a maximum of 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy points into Nectar points
  • Transfers can take up to 48 hours to complete
  • Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar accounts may only be linked and unlinked once

Your Nectar points can also be used to pay for shopping at Sainsbury’s, Argos or other Nectar partners, or transferred to Avios.

Conclusion

You can now link your Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar accounts and transfer points in either direction.

Whether or not this is of interest to you, you should definitely link your accounts in order to earn 1,500 bonus Nectar points in this programme year on your next three cash stays at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels, completed by 16th July 2026.

You can find out more and link your accounts from Nectar here.

Useful though if you only have a few Marriott points and rather than losing them transfer to Nectar > Avios if Marriott isn’t your preferred choice of hotel chain?

  • Steven Vu says:

    Hi Rob,

You forgot to add this paragraph to the article. Just include it at the end:

“Let’s be blunt about the transfer rate, though, because it’s where the maths falls apart. A Nectar point has a fixed value of 0.5p when you spend it at Sainsbury’s or Argos. To get one Marriott Bonvoy point, you need to give up two Nectar points, meaning you’re effectively ‘buying’ a Marriott point for 1p. Given our own valuation of a Bonvoy point is around 0.5p-0.75p, you are overpaying significantly. It’s even worse in the other direction: swapping two Bonvoy points (worth 1p-1.5p in total) for one Nectar point (worth 0.5p) is a terrible deal.

The transfer feature itself should only be used if you are just a handful of points short for a specific, high-value hotel redemption. What is a no-brainer, however, is linking your accounts simply to claim the bonuses. The 500 Nectar points offered for linking are worth £2.50, and the potential 1,500 points from your first three stays are worth £7.50. You should certainly link your accounts to pocket this, even if you never intend to use the transfer function itself.”

In all seriousness. I don’t think anyone minds advertorials providing it is something you would conceivably be comfortable writing yourself. You need to weigh up how much credibility – In my case, a lot – was lost due to this article and the amount you received for posting this.

    • Nicholas says:

It’s clearly labelled as a sponsored article, and provides the key factual info… so very helpful for making people aware this is now an option. Also if I ever want to check transfer rates etc, HfP is my starting place to search rather than trying to dig around on the Nectar/Airline/Hotel website

      • memesweeper says:

The fact the ongoing transfer rate opportunities are barely mentioned says it all.

      • David says:

Sponsored…shlonsered. Just lipstick on a pig.

        • Kofi Carvel says:

Rob even said last year that it would need to be 1:1 to be good value. As memesweeer and David point out here, the fact it’s half that rate, and there is absolutely nothing recommending transferring beyond the sign up bonus, says it all really doesn’t it?

    • Richie says:

      No credibility has been lost.

    • Arch says:

👏🏼 Thanks for completing the article, and saying what we’re all thinking. The transfer rate makes this pretty pointless unless you’re oblivious to value or in dire straits. And Rob has been blatantly bought off – clever of Marriott to buy his silence with such a launch article, knowing that his opinion would have been very loud otherwise, but now must keep his mouth firmly shut.

Just a small edit to your last paragraph though…

“You should certainly link your accounts – despite the poor security given you don’t need matching email addresses – to pocket this, even if you never intend to use the transfer function itself. But only if you really value earning such a pathetically small bonus for doing so.”

    • Kofi Carvel says:

I’m so impressed at how well your writing imitates Rob’s style here. Right down to the sentence structure, particular use of descriptive phrases with minimal “jargon”, and even some little turns of phrase like “no-brainer” and “falls apart” “pocket [it]”and “let’s be blunt”. It’s like he actually wrote this himself and sent it to you to post… hahaha

  • The Paw 🐾 says:

Will this double with the Emirates deal?

  • Kowalski says:

Very disappointing. The transfer rates make this utterly pointless.

    • Richie says:

It isn’t pointless for those of us that stay at Marriotts and shop at Sainsbury’s. There’s a chance of all kinds of special offers that may be worthwhile. There are no joining fees.

      • ken says:

“There’s a chance of all kinds of special offers that may be worthwhile”

I won’t be getting my hopes up.

A 1-1 rate with a monthly cap surely wouldn’t have been a huge risk for either parties but would have driven engagement.

5 years ago it was very easy to get 1p or more.
Now you have to kid yourself that they are worth much more than 0.5-0.6p

  • TJ says:

Do existing bookings count or only new bookings made after linking? It’s not entirely clear.

    • Rob says:

It’s not clear. I assumed existing bookings count but they told us otherwise. In reality I suspect they might – we’ll find out soon enough. In any event, given one year to do 3 stays, it’s not a core concern of mine.

  • TJ says:

“Your name, email address and home address must match between your Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar accounts for the link to succeed”.

Just to note that I successfully linked accounts but have very different emails addresses.

    • Richie says:

      Same here.

      • MD says:

Same here, linked no problem with a couple of clicks, using different email addresses.

    • RussellH says:

My different e-mail addresses for Marriott + Nectar again seemed to have no effect on the instant linking (they are on the same domain, though). After all, the linking process only asks for Bonvoy log in details.
