This article has been sponsored by Marriott Bonvoy

Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar have launched the two-way transfer partnership that was announced last October.

Marriott Bonvoy has always been happy for members to transfer their points to other schemes. It has 39 airline transfer partners – more than any other hotel programme – and attractive transfer rates.

Marriott Bonvoy has now added Nectar as a transfer partner, allowing members to transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to Nectar points, and vice versa. This sees Nectar become the first ‘everyday earn’ partner for Marriott Bonvoy in the UK.

Let’s take a look at the sign up bonuses and the ongoing transfer rates.

For most HfP readers, the key benefit is the ability to earn up to 1,500 Nectar points every programme year from completing up to three Marriott Bonvoy cash stays.

There are two bonuses for linking your accounts

Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar are offering two incentives for linking your accounts.

It is worth taking advantage of these bonuses even if you currently have no intention of transferring points between the schemes. It’s free points, after all!

The first bonus is only for new members of Marriott Bonvoy, but the second one – the most generous – is open to all.

New to Marriott Bonvoy? Get 500 Nectar points for joining

The first incentive is for anyone who does not have a Marriott Bonvoy account (less likely if you are a HfP reader).

To receive a bonus of 500 Nectar points, you need to visit Nectar first (the Nectar landing page is here) and join Marriott Bonvoy from their link.

There is no need to stay at a Marriott Bonvoy hotel to receive the bonus. You get 500 Nectar points just for opening a Marriott Bonvoy account from Nectar, and your accounts will automatically be linked.

Even if you don’t have a plan for the Nectar points, you can transfer them back to Marriott and receive 250 Marriott Bonvoy points!

There is no end date to this offer.

If you are not yet a Marriott Bonvoy member then you can find out more in our guide to the Marriott Bonvoy programme here and how to make the most of it here.

Nectar Marriott Bonvoy partnership launched

Open to everyone – get 500 Nectar points on your first three Marriott stays in every programme year

After you have linked your Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar accounts, you will receive 500 Nectar points on each of your first three Marriott Bonvoy hotel stays in any programme year.

This offer is available to everyone, irrespective of how long they have been members of Nectar and Marriott Bonvoy. It is not restricted to new members.

Here’s the small print:

  • The Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar partnership programme year starts, and refreshes, on 17th July each year
  • You must complete your three Marriott Bonvoy stays between 17th July one year and 16th July the next to receive your full complement of three bonuses for that year
  • Only cash stays will receive 500 bonus Nectar points – stays booked with Marriott Bonvoy points will not qualify
  • Your Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar accounts must be linked for 24 hours before booking, to enable your stay to qualify for the bonus
  • Your bonus Nectar points will arrive in your Nectar account within seven days of check-out
  • You can earn a maximum of 1,500 Nectar points from this promotion every programme year
  • You will receive your standard Marriott Bonvoy points and elite night credits as usual

You should sign up for this offer even if you have no interest in Nectar points, because at the very least you can transfer your 1,500 bonus Nectar points back to Marriott and receive 750 Marriott Bonvoy points!

What is the transfer rate between Nectar and Marriott Bonvoy?

Full details can be found on this page of the Nectar website.

The rates are:

  • 2 Marriott Bonvoy points get you 1 Nectar point
  • 2 Nectar points get you 1 Marriott Bonvoy point

Whilst transfers work in both directions, there is a loss of value if you transfer from Nectar to Marriott and then decide to transfer back to Nectar, or vice versa. You should only make a transfer if you are fairly confident that you won’t want to reverse it.

Here’s the small print:

  • You need to link your Nectar and Marriott Bonvoy accounts, from the Nectar website
  • Your Marriott Bonvoy account must be registered in the UK
  • You can link your Nectar account to your Marriott Bonvoy account even if you have already linked it to an Avios account – the Avios link will remain in place
  • Your name, email address and home address must match between your Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar accounts for the link to succeed
  • There is a minimum transfer of 500 Marriott Bonvoy points into Nectar points, and in multiples of 100 Marriott Bonvoy points thereafter
  • There is a minimum transfer of 500 Nectar points into Marriott Bonvoy points, and in multiples of 100 Nectar points thereafter
  • Nectar allows a maximum of 10 individual, manual points conversions daily to any of their partners, including Marriott Bonvoy, up to a maximum of 100,000 Nectar points per day
  • Marriott Bonvoy allows unlimited, manual points conversions to Marriott Bonvoy partners including Nectar, up to a maximum of 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy points into Nectar points
  • Transfers can take up to 48 hours to complete
  • Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar accounts may only be linked and unlinked once

Your Nectar points can also be used to pay for shopping at Sainsbury’s, Argos or other Nectar partners, or transferred to Avios.

Conclusion

You can now link your Marriott Bonvoy and Nectar accounts and transfer points in either direction.

Whether or not this is of interest to you, you should definitely link your accounts in order to earn 1,500 bonus Nectar points in this programme year on your next three cash stays at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels, completed by 16th July 2026.

You can find out more and link your accounts from Nectar here.

  • Tariq says:

Appreciate you cannot say it because the article is sponsored but the transfer rates are rubbish, aren’t they?

    • david says:

      Horrid.

    • Peter K says:

Very poor. You might be able to get over 1p of value per bonvoy point and make it work in that direction from Nectar in specific circumstances, but as a speculative transfer it’s not worth it.

    • DTR says:

Such a pity, had genuinely been looking forward to this. Avios it is.

  • John says:

312.5 free avios per account then

    • John says:

Well I attempted to make a new marriott account via nectar, and got my free 500 nectar instantly even though the new marriott account failed to link due to mismatching name (marriott’s registration form did not accept the characters in the name of that nectar account). Wasn’t asked for a residential address.

If I ever want to use this offer genuinely I can just make a new nectar to link to my real marriott

  • Ken says:

“very least you can transfer your 1,500 bonus Nectar points back to Marriott and receive 750 Marriott Bonvoy points! “

Who in their right mind would pay 1p per Marriott point ?

    • Rob says:

If you never go near Sainsbury’s …..

      • kevin86 says:

You can buy gift vouchers from Saino’s though

      • ken says:

        and doesn’t collect Avios…

sure there are worse transfers about, but this is pretty terrible.

        • Rob says:

The point was, if for some reason you don’t have a Nectar account, it is worth opening one because at the very least you can convert the Nectar points back into Bonvoy.

      • Talay says:

So sad that so many would waste minutes nevermind hours to get a free few points worth a fraction of anyone’s decent time.

It is the 1990s joke about Bill Gates wasting time to bend down and pick up a $100 note.

  • Simon says:

    What a disappointment.

  • cranzle says:

I was hoping the transfer rates would be tempting…..

  • david says:

    1,000 Nectar points
    625 Avios (£6.25)
    £5 off at Sainsburys
    500 Marriott (£2.50)

    The rates are awful.

    • Ilou says:

Agreed.. waited a long time for this one.. disappointing!

      • Martin says:

Hear, hear – a long time coming and a resoundingly massive disappointment. And the link to existing Marriott accounts seemingly not working 🤷🙄. So my 270k NP pile will be heading in the direction of Avios..

        • ADS says:

don’t forget you still have a few weeks to use NP to generate Nero vouchers – which in turn are valid for a year!

  • Magic Mike says:

Nectar continuing to be the “meh” of loyalty schemes…

Spend £50k at Sainsbury’s, get a night at the Heathrow Moxy.

    • John says:

Personalised bonus points are how you earn in nectar

      • Dezza says:

100%. Relatively easy to get 500+ each weekly shop with these. Plus things like the current Eat Healthy challenge helps too

  • Old Age Traveller says:

Does transferring a few nectar points count as Marriott activity if you’re in danger of points expiring?
