Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

‘Combine My Avios’ is back to Iberia, Aer Lingus and Vueling – but with new rules

‘Combine My Avios’ is back and working!

As we covered two weeks ago, the service had been taken down for transfers between Iberia, Vueling, Aer Lingus and British Airways. Qatar Airways and Finnair were not impacted.

We had assumed that this was due to rampant Avios theft, which was taking advantage of a vulnerability to allow fraudsters to open Iberia Club accounts and suck Avios out of your British Airways Club account.

The good news is that everything seems to be up and running in a new format.

How does it work?

All ‘Combine My Avios’ transactions can now be done from this page at avios.com.

You will see this:

combine my avios is back

For Iberia, Vueling, Aer Lingus and Loganair, you click the top arrow and you end up here:

Combine My Avios is back

You are now creating permanent links

This is the important bit.

The first time you move Avios to or from an Iberia, Vueling or Aer Lingus account, you create a permanent link.

This is new, although it is the route that Qatar Airways, Finnair and Loganair have always used.

When you return to the page in the bottom screenshot, you will see your account numbers and balances for each programme.

Going forward, you do NOT need to re-enter your Iberia, Vueling or Aer Lingus account details each time you want to make a transfer. The details are permanently stored at avios.com and each transfer can be done very quickly, albeit with multiple levels of 2FA security to clear.

I tried it out last night and it seemed to work fine.

You are no longer forced to transfer via a BA account

You no longer need to use British Airways as a conduit, except for Qatar Airways and Finnair.

You can now transfer Iberia to Aer Lingus, Aer Lingus to Vueling, Vueling to Loganair etc in one transaction. You do NOT need to move your Avios into British Airways Club and then out again.

What data do you need to link accounts?

To quote:

The first name, surname, and email address registered on each account must match. If your date of birth is registered on either account, it must also match to complete the linking process.

Accounts cannot be unlinked

Take note! However, you MUST link your accounts to do a transfer now, so there isn’t much you can do about it.

Transfers can no longer be done via the call centre

This could be frustrating for some people. You can only link your accounts online and transfers can only be done online. The call centre can no longer help you.

There are no longer time limits before you can move Avios

You previously had to be a member of Iberia Club for 90 days, and have ‘earned’ an Avios on your account, before you could transfer in or out.

Effective immediately, there are no restrictions on when new accounts can begin to send and receive points.

Congratulations to the Avios team for getting this up and running. Not only should it make your accounts more secure (and end the current Iberia fraud) but it will make future Avios transfers easier.

The ability to move Avios between Aer Lingus, Vueling, Loganair and Iberia without having to go via British Airways first is especially welcome.

I can’t make it work for the life of me.

I can login separately to both my BA and IB accounts. I can login to avios.com and see my BA balance, but as soon as I try to link the IB account I get a message “ Something went wrong, please try again later”.

Yesterday on a different browser the message was that they couldn’t match my details. That is weird because I transferred avios in the past, and more recently even did it via the contact centre.

Any clues on what else to try before I reach out to their c centre?

Managed to get it to work now. I’ve created a Vueling account, transferred my IB Avios to the Vueling account and then from there to BA.

BA and IB still won’t talk lol

I’m not filled with confidence that on my iPad at least, when going between pages, it flashes up a big “404 error” page for a fraction of a second.

Now if only I could change my MFA settings with BA to delete the passkey they have for one that I also have. Fortunately I also have SMS set up.

  • AJA says:

Do you have to use Avios.com now to transfer between Qatar and BA (and Finnair if you have an account with them)? I already had BA and Qatar linked so could just transfer directly. Also I have never logged on to Avios.com as I never needed to, do you use your BAC login credentials or are there separate details?

Does your e mail address need to be the same one for all accounts?

On a related note, I saw the new Iberia offer “Up To 60% Off Award Travel In All Cabins October 1 – December 5, 2025 (Book By September 11)” – I am unable to get the site working to show these reduced fares though!

    This is OT but on same subject;

I am trying to link my BA club account with Qatar for the first time but when you click ‘link accounts’ a pop up comes up with 3 steps to link but there’s no actual link to click. I really need to link these accounts. What am I doing wrong? Please help. Thanks

      Consider a different browser.

        True, of course.
But what happened to web standards?
All those years ago when I was running around four related websites for my travel business, I could get every page checked by the W3A and know that it would work whatever browser was being used.
Now, it is like the wild west. The web has gone backwards.

Everyone wants you to use their app and can’t be bothered to make proper websites any more

          • Novice says:

I have tried google chrome and apple safari, Qatar app basically everything I can think of and everywhere when I click link account a pop up with instructions comes up and nothing else.

Rob, you need to look into this. And can anyone who doesn’t already have the accounts linked please try so we know if it’s just me or same for others.

  • Roberto D says:
