News in brief:
Executive Lounge at Jersey Airport to close
If you were wondering how Jersey Airport was going to sustain two independent airport lounges, following the opening of the stunning new No1 Lounge recently, we have the answer.
It can’t.
British Airways, the main customer of the old Executive Lounge, has given notice of its intention to move passengers to No1 Lounge. This means that the existing lounge will close on 18th October. The 18 staff will lose their jobs.
This is where it gets murky. No1 Lounge reportedly offered jobs to the staff at the Executive Lounge because it was assumed it would close. The staff were apparently told that the old lounge would remain open and would be refurbished, potentially for exclusive British Airways use.
What is not clear is if British Airways had told the Executive Lounge that it would not be moving upstairs and encouraged it to move ahead with refurbishment plans. If it did – and later changed its mind – there will be 18 unemployed people on 18th October who would like a word.
