News in brief:

Radisson seems to have extended your comped VIP status

Last December, many hundreds of HfP readers got free top-tier VIP status in Radisson Rewards when the Club Avolta duty free scheme offered it as a benefit to top tier elites.

(This is no longer available. Ironically, the Club Avolta elites only had that status because they took part in an earlier status match we promoted, when Avolta was matching anyone with airline or hotel status.)

Whilst Radisson Rewards often gets a hard time on HfP, you can’t argue with the benefits of VIP status. You are given the best available room in the hotel at check-in, and many hotels includes suites too. You also receive free breakfast.

Readers started this thread in our forum to share their VIP experiences at Radisson, Park Inn, Park Plaza and art’otel hotels.

Those who got VIP status in December 2024 were due to lose it in August 2025.

September came around and we all remained as VIP. We thought we had been extended but then, on Tuesday, we all dropped to Premium. A reader called Radisson and was told this was a mistake and, lo and behold, on Thursday we were all VIP again!

My app shows this, which is interesting:

Not only am I back to VIP, but apparently I will keep it until September 2027. If this is correct, it is an excellent result.

It will also result in more of my stays going to Radisson, of course, so it is shrewd business sense on their part too.

(EDIT: In the comments some people have not been upgraded again. It would be interesting to know if you did a stay after the badly worded ‘do a stay to retain your VIP benefits’ email was received in June – I did, as did my wife.)

PS. Don’t forget that Radisson Rewards transfers to Avios will end on 30th September. If you want to empty out your points, do it now.

Problems with the recent Marriott Bonvoy American Express offer

Marriott Bonvoy recently ran a special offer for holders of the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card.

You usually earn 6 Marriott Bonvoy points per £1 when using the card at a Marriott hotel. Under this promotion, you would earn a bonus worth an extra 6 Marriott Bonvoy points per £1 at selected hotels.

Unfortunately American Express has messed this up.

It is NOT awarding an extra 6 points per £1.

It is awarding an extra 6 points. Full stop.

From my Amex app:

I’m sure it will be fixed in time, but keep an eye on your Marriott account if you took part in this offer.

I’m still VIP, but apparently only until October 2025. Let’s see what happens next month?

I did manage to transfer my points to Avios though, cheers to whoever suggested the method for making that one work.

I initially got the 2 years of VIP status by tweaking the webpage as reported by others. When I checked last week my VIP status was due to expire next year.
I’ve just checked it now and it has actually dropped to Platinum but with a 2027 expiry. Should I contact Radisson?

    • Rob says:

Only if you got the email in June and did a stay afterwards.

    • dave says:

      * dropped to Premium status

      • meta says:

I never got the email. I did stay in June, but entirely paid by points (had loads left out of compensation from a work star), my status has been updated till Sep 2027.

    • Max says:

‘Tweaking the webpage’. I can’t seem to find a reference to this in the thread. Any more info on this?

I did do the status match to VIP and have stayed a few time at RR hotels plus twice since the June email. My account though shows status until 10/25.

  • Lee says:

I had VIP status through the Avolta match. Did a 4 night stay in May. Have another 5 nights booked in November. Didn’t receive any email in June about an extension. Currently my status shows tier ending 12/2025. After which guess I’ll drop to Premium (which I could get through Amex Plat anyway) and I will probably then push my loyalty back to IHG and Accor.

  • Jonathan says:

I got Radisson VIP with the promotion last August and it now also shows tier ending 09/2027.

  • Yorkshire Rich says:

I did the status match through Avolta a while ago. Think it was IHG platinum I used. I don’t recall ever receiving an email. Just checked in the app and it says V.I.P member, tier start 02/25 and tier updates 02/27.

Only stayed at a few Radissons, but it’s a nice status to have and plan on staying at a few more next year. My next trip is the Park Plaza Westminster.

  • Bertster says:

Another data point on the Marriott offer. I got 12 points, awarded on two transactions (so presumably 6 for each)

  • Rebecca says:

Did the Avolta status match with my BA Silver in Jan and it’s always shown status until 1/26 – haven’t experienced any of what’s described in the article so perhaps it only applied to people who were approved in December/had it for a shorter period? I have pushed a lot of stays to Radisson this year and enjoyed some great upgrades (and crap breakfasts) so won’t be too far off hitting the renewal target anyway. Interested to see whether I get any offers from them nearer my year end.

    • Lumma says:

No, mine is expire 12/25 and I think I signed up when it was first mentioned on here. I didn’t know some people only had it until August until I read this article

  • Bloomy says:

Mine not extended, my expiry is 08/26 😢
