It would be good (ideally either as a Facebook style notification within site or via Email according to user preference although to be honest I’d take either) but I can appreciate there are bigger priorities so one for some time next year, maybe?

Fo now, probably many people have missed that clicking Account -> Engagements allows you to see any further activity on threads in which you have been involved.
