Many thanks for all for your helpful responses.

Sounds like we have a plan and a plan B.

I’m generally pretty savvy with this stuff having secured first class reward flights a year in advance before, but that was pre kids, on a route with lots of availability.

What was throwing me this time was whether reward flights were even available, so I’ve learnt something new scratching the surface.
