Sitting on 4 vouchers and would like to know how to get the best value in economy with the least amount of tax flying anywhere?
I have found some US return flights on Delta showing on virgin site with half the tax price of virgin but I assume the voucher needs to be used on Virgin metal.
Is there any flexibility if one leg is with virgin and other with say delta ?
It has to be used on Virgin metal.
Start with a list of destinations where you like to fly. Destinations with best value may not be the best holiday for you.
A general thumb-rule is the more competitive the route is, better the cash prices, which will make vouchers poor value. Therefore best value is on routes where the airline has a monopoly.
Also look at options to upgrade after paying for cash tickets – this could be much better value.
Yes … if the taxes are a big issue, then buying Premium Economy tickets (for cash or miles) and using the voucher to upgrade to Upper Class may be better value overall.
Some additional surcharges may still be due however.
