This has been asked before I think but I can’t seem to find an answer now.
Online Amex chat (I am a supplementary card holder on OH BA card) claim they have no record of me having a Gold Card (I did). They only see me as a supplementary card holder now and a record of my BAPP which I closed approx 8 months ago.
I’d like to go for Platinum but would love to know my “2 year date” from my Gold card is, so I get the Platinum bonus. I think it’s Dec/Jan so could play it safe and go Feb but equally I’d like it sooner rather than later.
A quick scan of my emails isn’t yielding much in terms of finding old statements / account closure. Any tips or do I need to play it safe?
Cheers
It’s been reported before that the responses from online chat can be utter bollocks when asking that question.
It’s your own responsibility to keep accurate records.
Amex write to you on account closure, that is the date, I wouldn’t trust online chat either as @davefl says.
Thanks, I mean the chat is definitively rubbish as I did have a Gold card. That’s for sure.
I have an entry in my Google Calendar that says Amex date, but I wanted to verify that as I assume I put that in 2 years ago and can’t remember why.
I suppose I’ll have to play it safe.
Edit: I’ve found an email confirming a transfer I made of MR points to BA, so I know that to be on or approx the date of closure. Narrows it down a bit. Thanks.
They can’t find records of you having an account? I thought they had to keep records for six years – have you tried asking for a copy of your last credit card statement?
You may have to pay a fee but it’s better than guessing and resetting the clock because you applied too early.
Can you not see the date that you last made a payment to them from your bank records?
I’ve had similar from chat – “we can’t find any record of you having a platinum card”, and “after 2 years the information is wiped from the system” which I find hard to believe. Luckily for me I know I haven’t had a Platinum card in my current house, and moved house 26 months ago, so am certain I’m okay for the 100k SUB.
