Managed to do it in the end after wasting hours and calling 7 times…
Booked
MAN-LHR-HKG ( 50000 avios + £275)
HKG-LHR (50000avios + £36
Using companion voucher in club for 10000avios +£306
It’s a bit if a joke tbh how uninformed the cs agents are and how they all just make different things up
Patience of a saint there! Boy, that was painful.
But one point you made was quite good, to look for one way back or out. What dates did you find that HKT EDI on TK/BA for? Am going to check that out for us next time, if we run low on avios… l mean, that’s amazing fare…
We are in and out of EDI SIN in Feb, but for next Nov out Sin, back HKG. Looking forward to Asia again, after missing out in November.
@Polly, I found it searching Skyscanner ow J HKT-EDI week beginning 22/1. It was apparently bookable via Trip. I never followed it through to see what happened but tbh it looked like an error fare to me. Asking about such low fares on Trip within the forum two or three months back, readers replied that they are reliable and owned by the same company that now owns Skyscanner. I had previously found attractive J fares there from Hat Yai to Edinburgh (around £900 ow)with connections on that Malaysian airline that just went bust plus longhaul on MH and then over to LGW for EasyJet to Edinburgh. I did work those through to payment page fine. Notes said the connections were protected too whatever that actually meant in practice. We are heading HKT to HKG for 3 nights before coming home BA on 241 so looking forward to that. Had just been exploring options as I usually do in event I need to get home suddenly.
Happy travels and happy festive season!
@Polly, forgot to mention Edelweiss. Check their own website. They fly direct between ZRH and HKT seasonal on exSwiss a340s. However, IIRC I read they are getting new longhaul aircraft and/or J seats. I’m quite tempted as I fancy a winter break in Switzerland some time and it would be good opportunity to combine with Thailand. Obviously the main downside would be hauling both winter and summer clothing so I’d need to check bags.
UPDATE:
I booked HKG-LHR online using companion voucher.
I then called BA to book MAN-LHR-HKG and add it to my companion voucher but they don’t seem to get it..the call handlers seem to not quite understand what I mean and I ended up hanging up 3 times (idk if language barrier as they all appear to be south asian)
What exactly should I say to them to make them understand?? They say once the voucher is used then nothing can be added onto it…
Well not sure how they have managed to do it but the Amex voucher should be associated with the first legs of the booking (the parent PNR), so you are lucky that they were able to combine.
