Forums Payment cards American Express 40,000 bonus points on the MB Amex card: eligibility

  • 2 posts

    Hi All,

I currently have an Amex business gold charge card which lists both my company name and my name on the physical card.

I would like to bag the 40,000 points offer on the MB Amex card…the terms currently state you are eligible if you have not held a *personal* Amex card in the last x months.

I assumed that would mean I was eligible as I have only have a business card. I called Amex to check and:

    * the first time the person thought i was eligible but told me to call back during a week day
    * the second time i called – just now – the person initially thought I was *not* eligible (as the card is assessed against me personally even though it is listed as a business card)

They put me on hold to check but couldn’t find the answer! They said they will call back but i wanted to know if anyone here knows the answer?

    Thanks in advance,

    RC

If you only have held the Amex business card in the last 2 years then you are definitely eligible for ALL the sign-up bonuses on Amex personal cards, including the Marriott Bonvoy one.

The people on the phone / chat don’t always know what they’re talking about. I speak from experience as a business card holder who has had exactly the same discussions with them in the past. They have often said I won’t get the SUBs but I always did.

In your situation, you can not only earn the Bonvoy SUB but work your way through all the personal card bonuses as per Rob’s guide if you are so minded!
