Morning All
I need to get a return flight added to a booking made online with Avios and a 2-4-1 voucher. I tried the other night as soon as flights were released but of course, I was on hold for a while and when I checked again online the flights had gone.
Is it possible to book the flights online as soon as they are released to ensure I get the seats and then call BA to combine the two bookings so that I get a refund of the extra Avios used and the extra taxes?
Yes to the avios, no to the taxes.
Onloy way to get correct taxes calculated is to call and book the return leg.
Of course, this can work in your favour on some routes where the taxes for 2 x one-way are lower than a return (eg Japan, HK, Brazil).
It’s a total disaster for the US, however, and under no scenario should you do it.
For other destinations you need to price it up via dummy bookings and see what the extra cost may be. I get a feeling that you’d also be on the hook for double cancellation fees if you needed to cancel.
It doesn’t have to be a disaster for the US if you’re happy to travel in Y or PE. I posted earlier about this but it’s way down the list now which is the problem with the forum! You can get Y for 30k avios plus £50 and PE for 40-50k avios plus about £200.
