Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Aer Lingus companion voucher

  • 1 post

Has aer lingus been removed as an option to book with the companion voucher? As I have been searching for aer lingus flights on the british airways website but none are showing up despite availability on the aer lingus reward flights website.

Having the same problem. Doesn’t matter if it’s economy or business never has availability.

Aer Lingus has its own FF scheme with waitlisting for its own elites. Finding availability online is thus challenging. They give Concierge members 4 upgrade vouchers a year, plus a companion voucher. And you earn an upgrade voucher at Platinum level on your way to Concierge.

@BWS, does that mean EI release fewer seats to BA though? I assumed available award seats were visible via both websites, just with much lower availability for EI, as you said, because their own members are getting the majority of them.

This would mean straightforward redemptions would be possible via Aer Club, but not using the 241 on BA.com.

Ohh I see now. I misread the OP. Should show the same availability in my experience.

Also wondering which route OP is searching for? I’ve only ever seen economy availability between MAN and JFK, and nothing on the other MAN routes, for example. There were some posts a while ago about good J availability from DUB, but obviously this wouldn’t fit everyone’s travel plans.

I am having the same issue.
I search for reward availability on Aer Lingus MAN – MCO and plenty of availability.
I use the same dates on BA (using 241) and I either get no availability or offered a route via LGW/LHR.
It seems the concept of using companion voucher on Aer Lingus is a mith.

Your sentences above are confusing. Did you find availability on Aer Lingus.com? And then just searched with the companion voucher on BA.com? Try searching without the companion voucher.

Not all tickets that show on Aer Lingus are available on ba.com and vice versa.

@davefl I’m not sure what was confusing, but I will try your suggestion.

Yes I found availability on Aer Lingus and then searched on BA with the companion voucher (241) for the same dates as available on Aer Lingus and there were no Aer Lingus flights offered.

I think my statement that using a companion voucher on aer Lingus is a myth.

I would be interested to know if anyone has ever booked Aer Lingus with a companion voucher.

    Ianwardz,

I booked DUB-ACE-DUB in August 2024 for this summer via BA using a BA Amex 241 voucher but am now encountering possible difficulties due to the usual woeful EI IT, including online and App.
My BA confirmation e-ticket receipt email shows a 20kg checked baggage per person but my 5 digit booking reference in my EI account and app BOTH show NO ( ZERO ) checked baggage for the whole booking….

X formerly Twitter – forget it as Erin bot only refers you in circles !
WhatsApp – again forget it as again Erin goes round in circles !
Online Chat function via AerClub logged in and EI agent does not know what a BA Amex 241 voucher is and refers me back to “the 3rd party you booked with”, despite explaining that my BA eticket receipt shows I have confirmed checked baggage.

    EI IT = -10/10

You shouldn’t have any issues – 20kg checked bag is standard on EI award bookings via BA. I kept my email confirmation to hand in case we had any problems on our MAN-DUB flight last year, but it wasn’t even questioned.

I’m assuming this will also apply to you, but it’s worth checking – we had the option of paying around 10 euros to have our cabin bags in the cabin with us, or check them in for free, so of course we checked them in as we had hold bags anyway. These can be up to 10kg, so a pretty good baggage allowance in total.

    Thanks NorthernLass,

Yes well aware of the “extra” 10kg hand baggage thanks and always check it into the hold, when travelling through Irish airports on EI redemption flights – normally our 8kg cool bag goes in one of our small suitcases 🤪. Outstations can sometimes be a bit funny with this extra “baggage” on reward flights, as it is normally the poor EI IT that causes most problems.

I have printed the BA e-ticket receipt and will bring it with me but means we have to do a physical agent check in, as cannot use the automatic check in kiosks at DUB due to my booking anomaly.

Given that EI releases far fewer reward seats than BA (not a surprise given EI is a much smaller airline and smaller cabins) it’s hard to fined one business seat let alone two.

I was looking at economy. There were 5 reward seats available on the Air Lingus. Zero on BA.
