Forums Payment cards Capital on Tap Am I in the wrong? Looking for compensation for slow card arrival

  • 38 posts

I applied for this offer on Saturday 8th Janbuary, knowing full well that I had a signficant payment of £3000 to make today. Without this payment, it is highly unlikely I will meet the spend threshold as I operate a seasonal business with little to no expenditure until April+

I took the leap to book because the application page made a big point about the card arriving within 4 days. I am on the 5th day (Friday 14th) and the card still hasn’t arrived.

I used the chat function to speak to the custoemr team who couldn;t have cared less. I asked if they could reduce my spend target by £2500 to which they just said no.

Am I being unreasonable in this? The application clearly says the card arrives in 4 days (Amex sometimes acheve this is 24-48 hours!!). What should I expect to happen here? Shocked at how they handled it as I thought they might have more discretion.

    Thanks

I think unreasonable. It was too touch and go imo.

Although CoT shouldn’t be promising a specific deadline if they can’t ensure it (they should send it on overnight courier if they say such things without some asterisks below), considering the delays all around the country that mail delivering is having it was probably a leap of faith on your part assuming that you’d for sure have the card today.

Thanks for your input. Under normal circumstances I would completely agree as well, except they were promoting the fact that the card arrives within that time frame. An odd one to advertise as well I would suggest as cards normally do arrive within 3-5 days anyway.

I just think it is misleading as they are clearly indicating that it is a main feature of their product and they are advertising it as one of the reasons to apply.

I feel like the least they could do is offer a gesture of lowering the spend target rather than offending a new customer.

What it actually says is this:-

How long will it take to get my card?

Your card will be delivered to you within 3-5 business days from the completion of your account setup.

If it hasn’t arrived by the 6th business day, please get in touch.

Completion of account set up may not be the same day as you completing your application. Even if they finalised Set-Up on Monday this week, that gives them until Monday next week to deliver, and until Tuesday next week before they expect you to contact them with concerns.

Either way, I hadn’t had mail since 21st December, and last night I couldn’t open my front door due to around 3 weeks of mail including boxes of LFTs, contact lenses and around 30 other letters. It’s hard to blame the company when it’s your local Royal Mail who are only delivering a few times a month.

Thanks ANdrew. On the landing page it does say very clearly 4 days. I do of course accept the delays in the mail but I feel they shouldn’t advertise this as a feature if they can’t back it up.

First class and next day Royal Mail is literally taking a week or more to reach me from the other side of London at the moment. The postman doesn’t even come to my stretch of road every day. Is the 4 day promise written in the terms and conditions? No? Then maybe take it up with Royal Mail…

Fair point that it is on the landing page. They could post with DHL/UPS next day if they wanted to keep to it.
Although doesn’t say in t+c nor does it say “guaranteed” 4 days but nitpicking here.

    Arrived today.
After I requested a replacement yesterday.
    Doh!

As others have said, I think Royal Mail are really struggling at the moment.
