Morning folks – I manually pay my Amex off each month. No shenanigans in doing so (I don’t use intermediary or points earning cards, it’s just my preferred way of doing things)
I noticed this morning the card option has gone, and you’re forced through to “bank transfer, powered by American Express” with a discreet range of banks that you can pay from.
Not sure how new it is, but is anyone else getting it? And is there a way to pay your card off if you’re using a bank different to those offered in the list? 🤦🏼♂️
I’ve still got the option to pay by debit card (on desktop anyway).
Pay by debit card still showing in Android app too, not that I ever use it though!
Set up a Direct Debit?
I also still have the pay with debit card option showing on my Android app and made payment that way last night.
I have just made a payment on my Amex using a debit card.
The first time I attempted it this morning there was an issue and was asked to try again later by the error message. It went through OK 5 minutes later however.
Maybe they are having some slight system issues?Made a successful payment this morning, using the debit card option.
Through the Android app.Cheers folks – this was via. the website
Sign of things to come?
I will try the app
My payment was via the website this morning
Sorry, should have made that clarification in my post.Panic over… there’s an option to switch to pay by debit card
Can’t quickly be seen on mobile due to you having to scroll up the page (where you pick how much you want to pay) and it defaults to “pay with bank transfer” which doesn’t help
All sorted 👍🏻

Good stuff.
Is there a particular reason you don’t use the app?Just cos I have to American Express accounts… so I use the app for one of them, and the website for the other.
Works easier for me keeping that separation for my own awareness of which account I’m looking at 😀
If you have a Samsung (Android) phone with the Knox secure folder, you can with many apps install two copies of a given app. One as normal the other in the secure folder, which acts like a walled garden. Useful for scenarios such as this, I have 2 copies of the Amex, BA and other apps installed each with separate logins.
Maybe useful for some. Don’t know if anything similar with Apple devices.

That is really useful to know, I do the same as AndyGWP and for the same reasons. I will now look into using knox to make things easier for me.
Thank you@Andy is that really Amex website? Not some scam? Horrible design.
I’ve moved from paying by card to paying by bank transfer in recent months but from within the android app. Obviously it’s no use if it doesn’t list your bank but I now find it a much easier way of settling my bill at the end of each month.

yeah… it passes your details through to here https://paywithbank.americanexpress.com/ (won’t properly work as it won’t know your originating Amex account)

That sounds brilliant! Doubt there’s anything for Apple but be interested to know if anyone knows different!
I couldn’t get the Barclaycard app to work with two copies, probably because of the higher security of one install only on banking apps. But, Amex, BA, Virgin, Singapore, Avis and ii (Interactive Investor) all work fine with an additional install into the secure folder.
