Amex app showing a second welcome bonus

Hi everybody, first time poster hoping for some input from experts.

I got my Rewards Gold card back at the end of October when the welcome bonus was 30,000 points for 3K spend within first three months. I reached that target spend at the start of December and received my welcome bonus.

When I navigate into the Redeem Rewards part of my AMEX app, next to the message “you have received a welcome bonus…” is another about a SECOND welcome bonus – 2,000 points – that I will apparently get if I spend another ca 2,400 pounds by end of January? I know the promo offer was reduced to 2K points for 3K spend shortly after I got my card… I think it’s just a bug in the app but I am tempted to try and reach that spend (essentially spending 2x3K pounds within three months) and see if they do give me the second lot of 20,000 extra points… what does everyone else think, is anyone in the same situation perhaps?

Replying to my own post since I made a mistake – it’s another 20,000 points I am being told I can get 🙂

Keep a screenshot of the message and whatever communication you’ve had with them. If the message disappears, or you find out that you didn’t get the bonus points in the future, you can at least show them something.

It’s my first AMEX but I keep reading about the “one welcome bonus in a lifetime” rule so I’m not sure why AMEX would accept a bug like that. I’ve had the message for weeks, probably since I reached the 3K spend, it’s like the 20,000 points will be applied to the next 3K spend.

It’s going to be a bit tricky – but not impossible – to reach the new spend target and if I’m honest I would happily take the additional points, so I’ll probably try it…
