    Hi all,
Can anyone advise as to whether Amex will do a hard credit check for a first business card application? I have a continuous 20 year history with Amex but only as a personal customer.
Also, can membership reward “accounts” for business cards get linked to existing MR “accounts” for personal cards?

I don’t know about the credit check, but yes they can link the business and personal MR accounts. Once they are linked they can’t be unlinked though.

Many thanks. So I assume open business account, link the MR account with personal, then close personal account is the best way?

If you don’t want to empty your existing MR account then yes.

I wasn’t hard credit checked – but that doesn’t mean you will not be.

Do Amex business cards show up on your individual credit files?

    Yes

No they do not… referring to platinum / gold business cards.

    So that’s interesting 🤔

    No they don’t

These are business debts not personal.

I have both platinum and gold biz card and they are not on credit file. As Ian said as well these are business debts not personal.

Strange, I’m on Experian and my biz ones don’t show there. Only the personal card.

Bumping an old thread, I know

Is it possible to get referred for a business Amex?

Yes, would be happy to oblige if you want a referral

What will I get extra on top of the usual sign-up bonus?
TBH I am not even sure I will meet the current SUB for Gold given my current business spend.

If you can’t make the required spend, then nothing! It’s somewhere between 1000 and 5000 extra points for being referred depending on which card it is.

OK thanks for that. So just checking the Amex site for these cards.
Business Gold is 10K extra points on a quarterly spend of £20K and Business Platinum is 10K extra for quarterly spend of £10K. Are these bonuses paid on a quarterly spend above that amount? i.e. £19,999 / £9,999 earns no bonus?

Also, is it possible to add the business cards to your personal Amex cards on the website and the app?

I’m thinking it’s good to use the business card for business travel (and hence managing expenses), with perhaps the Platinum for the hotel and insurance benefits (better than the personal Platinum, which I currently have) and the Times newspaper subscription. But otherwise, the Dell and job site (Indeed?) benefits are useless to me.

Yes that’s right re the bonuses.

Yes, the cards are in your name, and go onto the same app/website login. You should also end up with 1 MR account.

If your travel is outside the UK then have a look at Capital On Tap – you’d be paying 2.99% forex fees on the Amex card.

    Thanks again @Matt
I don’t do enough foreign travel to justify a card just for that. Sadly as I work as I am a sole trader, I can’t get the Capital On Tap card. It looks ideal though!
To be honest a non-Amex business card would be great as some places where I need to spend don’t take Amex.

But I am still tempted by Gold Amex (free for first year) and Platinum Amex for the various other perks.

Can anyone confirm that it’s currently possible to cancel a biz and get a new one revejng the sub on both without waiting in between?

And that neither prevent you from getting a personal sub if it’s been 24 months?

There have been reports that when a card is closed for you, internally, Amex systems prevent the same card getting reopened within a few months regardless of SUB rules or qualifications. I got a fresh Platinum business a few months ago about five months after closing the last one. I certainly wouldn’t apply within weeks, leave it three months perhaps? No point dinging your credit file with a failed application.

But zéro impact on getting a personal sub?

Went for Amex Business Gold in the end, but I can see now that I have a hard credit check on my file from Amex. Kind of baffled at this, given what other readers on here have said.
