Went for Amex Business Gold in the end, but I can see now that I have a hard credit check on my file from Amex. Kind of baffled at this, given what other readers on here have said.
I can’t think how anyone can confirm how Amex will respond to someone else’s application! If Amex didn’t do a hard credit check for one person, that has no implications for anyone else.
How Amex chooses to assess applications varies constantly and depends on multiple factors including when they last checked your account, their current credit exposure, any differences in information vs that from a prior application or on file etc etc. Any new card applicant should realistically expect/accept they may get a full credit check and in these straitened economic times this will likely become more prevalent.

Quite so. I suppose it’s because this is my first Business card with them.
I have two other (personal) Amex cards and have never been credit checked for those when opening/upgrading/downgrading them.Anyway, not really much I can do about it.
