Forums Payment cards American Express Amex Medical Travel Insurance

  • 1 post

Has anyone found a good solution to the following problem. At age 70 the medical insurance part of the Amex Platinum personal card stops. I spoke to the insurer Axa whose attitude was “tough”. I then spotted if you have the business Platinum card, medical cover continues to age 80. Same fee, slightly different benefits such as no Eurostar lounge on the business card. Has anyone found any good way around the age 70 limit that does not involve getting a business platinum and dropping the personal one?

    Thanks

No – Amex’s insurance product is completely inflexible. You can’t even pay to add things like pre-existing conditions, or indeed extend the support to anyone over 70.

The bigger problem is that at that age, one is likely to be taking medication for hypertension or hypercholesteremia, and Amex’s cover excludes those. Having the only remaining cover is risky.
