I used my Amex Platinum to part pay (€120) for a meal on Wednesday 8th April 2025 at one of the restaurants listed in the abroad dining credit in Paris. The transaction has appeared on my Google wallet, but the transaction has not appeared on my Amex account. How long should this take, as it has now been over a week. The rest of the payment was made using another card which appeared on my account the next a day.
I’ve used this benefit about twice and once it took a day, the other time it took 5 days.
I also had an instance where the restaurant used a card machine from their sister bar (same physical building) so the credit never showed – i then got them to email me receipt etc and Amex then credited me the £100 back.
Last year, Paris credited quickly but a meal in Mexico City took a couple of months to credit!
I also had the issue where the card machine said a different name to that of the restaurant when in Paris this year. I did get it credited eventually but it was quite a protracted process, considering I had the bill and the transaction receipt.
It’s now been 3 weeks and the original transaction is not on my statement at all. If the transaction takes another few months will it still have the original transaction date of 9th April? I’m worried it will apprear after June and use up the credit for the 2nd half of 2025 instead. I have planned to use the 2nd £100 in July.
I have had similar, although not with Amex. The original transaction showed up eventually and was backdated and posted with narrative “delayed transaction”.
I don’t know if Amex does the same – best to ask Amex during UK hours.
I spoke to AMEX via the chat last week, and they said they had approved the charge at the time, but the merchant was not able to claim the amount. They suggested to contact the merchant to ask them to charge the card before June 30th. I emailed them last week and the charge went though at the weekend, with credit appearing today. So all good now!
