Hi,
I always pay my rental with my amex platinum. I had a nightmare getting some late luggage payments from the new insurance company that amex is dealing which went for about 3 months and many many emails and phone calls to resolve. It was a nightmare. I mentioned this to Rob and he mentioned that the same insurance company had rejected a car insurance claim because the platinum card was not used. I need to pay with my ba amex card to trigger the 241, but very nervous to do this in case i have to go on that nightmare merry go round again. Anyone can confirm that this is now back to “you don’t need to pay with your platinum”… or not risk it? Thanks, chris
I mean …. the policy clearly states that you don’t need to pay with an Amex, but Europ was (is?) using that as a reason to reject claims.
It’s becoming very clear that Europ won the contract off AXA purely on price and is now blocking claims on non-grounds in order to make any money.
@samberox – the ‘Travel Inconvenience’ section which includes delayed baggage requires you to have purchased your tickets with an Amex card and paid for any replacement items on the card.
The car rental excess cover is not conditional on use of the card (which is defined in the policy as any Amex) but if you were to have a claim, it’s going to be a whole lot smoother getting that claim paid if the costs have been charged to your Platinum card.
None of this constitutes advice; it’s well worth reading the policy and asking Amex if anything is unclear.

Europ Assist is only the administrator of the policy, not one of the underwriters. They might be instructed to apply the policy to the letter, but shouldn’t be financially incentivised to deny claims. I don’t think Axa was sorry to lose the contract.
Thanks, i will play it safe and continue paying the car rental with the platinum card to avoid any hassles should the worst happen.
With dealing with Europe insurance, i had purchased all items to be claimed due to luggage delay on the amex. Royal Jordanian airlines offered a small compensation but much smaller than what the cover was for Amex. Europe insurance were trying to get me to reject the offer, probably a clause in there that would invalidate my claim. In the end accepted the compensation from royal jordanian and europe insurance paid out the difference. It took around 30 emails since a different person was looking at this every time:(
