Just wanted to create an updated 2022 version of this thread as I am always interested to know what kind of enquiries people hand to Amex concierge. Am I right in thinking the service isn’t as good as it used to be in terms of them no longer being able to book specific restaurants etc.?
Additionally, if anyone recommends a concierge service with a different card provider (I know of, but have no experience with HSBC Jade and Natwest Premier Black concierge services), would be interested to know if people are willing to share experiences!
My experience has only been poor. I’ve only tried a couple of times, but I’ve emailed in requests to book shows that *American Express has promoted to me via email* and they just send me the booking link to do it myself.
With the recent changes to travel and restaurant booking, a lot of the value of the concierge is effectively gone, which is a real dilution of service
Also, HSBC, Coutts (and I guess also RBS/NatWest), Barclays concierge services are provided by TEN Lifestyle Group
I have tried using it a few times and each time has been a waste of time. Just tried as recently as today to see if they could secure some football tickets but basically replied 30 minutes later to say they have no allocation of the tickets. No proactive effort on their part to try and source the tickets.
Although I’ve only used it twice recently, I have to say the staff have been brilliant, really going the extra mile to help source me some ice hockey tickets for an upcoming trip to Canada, and an excellent deal on a hotel (Fine hotels and resorts) which included contacting the hotel directly to ensure we booked the correct type of rooms to allow connecting rooms and extra persons. The other (small but important) thing is you get straight through to a real person, which is a breath of fresh air these days!
You can’t really count the last one – that’s what a travel agent is meant to do for their 10%, and indeed when Emyr does if you book via us (he would also call the hotel on arrival day to ensure it had been done, which Amex won’t).
Are they any use for buying tickets for you when presale links go live and you’re otherwise occupied?
What about negotiating restaurant bookings for slots that aren’t booked out but require local contacts or language skills?
