Have Hilton given us a nice new year gift of another points devaluation?
I was looking at the Doubletree Manchester Aiport and the price now seems to be 35000 points a night. I’m sure it was 30000 when I last used it late last year. Looking at a few other random hotels Hampton Liverpool Airport and Hampton Newcastle now seem to be 25000 up from 20000 (it only seems a few years ago when they were 10000). Hilton Wembley is now 60000 (was 50000 last year).
It doesn’t seem to be every hotel though as there are few that I have stayed in that so far seem to be unchanged.
The so-called points caps are unofficial and unpublished, so Hilton can pretend there is no devaluation.
I’m booked for Hampton Newcastle at 20k (paid rate £110) but seems to be 25k on weekends now, still 20k on most weeknights.
The fact is hotels are full despite prices higher than 2019, Hilton issued loads of points during travel restriction periods and is frequently having to reimburse hotels at their BAR so there will be further gradual devaluations
Hilton MAN is usually our go-to before an early flight as so far we’ve been able to book a standard room for 30k and get upgraded as gold to a family room. They need to watch out for the new HI in T2 now though! (Unless that starts asking for 100k points pn as per IHG dynamic pricing 🤣)
