I know some HFPers hate kids but there must be lots of parents too

Flyertalk is more US-focused as would be expected

It’s a great idea – the haters can just ignore it and the parents can share our collective years of experience!

Will consider. It’s a broad topic though – toddlers and teenagers don’t share many interests.

    Nor do babies and pre-teens.

Maybe one for babies, one for Primary school age, and one secondary school age?

Or just do one and see how it plays out?

Definitely feel like it’s missing when asking about recommendations – for instance hotels are recommended based on stealable hangars and kettles, when parents would prefer a recommendation based on separate lounge area (for child’s bed), or kids pool.

I don’t know – eating, sleeping, making a mess, spending endless hours playing (sorry, “gaming”)!
Refusing to do as they’re told …

Just needs a master forum called ‘Travel with Children of all ages’ and the threads will appear.

Personally I don’t hate children. It’s the parents who seem to think their offspring are the centre of the world I dislike.

For me it’s the parents who don’t care what the kids do.

I am sticking to Staybridge suites and residence inns for now. Hope there are more hotels like that.
Enjoyed the stay at The Fellows House.

    I’d be happy to contribute.
I often look for hotel lounge info, for example (no children
at any time/no under 12s in happy hour, etc. etc.)

I’m desperate for this sort of information. I find myself returning to international travel with two small children and now everything’s twice as expensive and four times as complicated. The travel planning tools I’ve used for years are not good at family travel questions like:

    – Are bassinet seats still available on a given flight?
    – Will we all be able to sit together on a given flight (i.e. how many seats in a block)?
    – Will we all fit in a hotel room (many booking systems assume incorrectly that each child requires a bed)
    – Can I upgrade a hotel redemption beyond the entry level room category?
    – (When looking at a range of hotels in an area) How much is a suite?
    – Can my children go to a hotels’s club lounge?
    – Will we all fit in the taxi? What’s the deal with car seats?

I’m hoping it gets easier (not cheaper though) when your children just become smaller adults for the purposes of travel planning.

Yes – definitely keen on this too, for all the reasons given above. I have also found myself hitting roadblocks when using planning tools which worked perfectly well for a couple!

Hear hear. Also in favour of such a section.

@aseftel – Your first 2 questions will depend very much on which airline you’re flying with.
Hotels and taxi companies are very experienced with accommodating families but again there’s a lot of variety between properties and brands which can help or hinder you!

This will become a very useful topic as we are expecting in July.
We had our last adults only redemption last week to Dubai.
