Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help Anyone know the reason for the delay to VS117 LHR to MIA yesterday 13Nov22?

    Hi all

I am meeting someone on the VS118 that was scheduled to depart MIA at 17:30 yesterday but it is very delayed and now scheduled to arrive at LHR at 10:20 today, 3hrs 45 minutes hours late.

This it seems is entirely down to the very delayed VS117 which only arrived in MIA at 19:05 last night. Anyone know why it departed so late?

I’m guessing those on the inbound flight are due reduced UK/EC261 compensation for a delay over 3 hours

Bumping this. Apparently the inbound flight (LHR to MIA) was delayed because of a medical emergency on a connecting flight which is odd as I question what flight was connecting to it.

The VS118 (MIA to LHR) consequently shows on flightradar24 as arriving at 10:35 but on Google as arriving at 10:37 ie 2 minutes over 4 hours late.

Can someone with Expert Flyer access please tell me if the flight shows the reason for delay and whether eligible for UK / EC261 compensation?

I believe it is eligible as the cause of the delay was not directly associated with this flight but a knock on contributory factor.

Where are you getting the information about medical incident on connecting flight from?

In terms of timings then you really need contemporaneous evidence of time doors opened & first passenger could disembark when it’s so tight. Eg. Video of your smart watch screen & doors opening to show time or at the least a photo. In general Expertflyer would be seen as more reliable than Google but arrival time on either doesn’t necessarily correlate with the EC/U.K. 261 definition.

The friend I met who was the passenger on the flight said that reason was what the captain announced over the public address system.

As for compensation, if due, they are either entitled to the maximum compensation or reduced as it was well over 3 hours late.

I would be interested to see what time Expert Flyer states too.

I am inclined to recommend they put in a claim regardless but it would be good to know if Expert Flyer agrees

Also just checked Flightaware and that shows arrival in LHR as 10:42 so even later than Google or flightradar

Seems to be a reoccurring theme on the Miami flights. I flew with BA in October back from MIA and our departing flight was apparently delayed because the inbound flight had a medical emergency followed by incorrect paperwork being filed. ExpertFlyer had us late arriving by about 3 hours 15 minutes.
I’ve lodged a compensation claim with BA so we’ll see what happens.

Expert Flyer isn’t showing an arrival time for some reason, the only comment is ‘ENTRY NOT VALID THIS HOST’.

    Show’s departure time 9.42pm.

    Not much help I’m afraid.

The LHR to MIA was diverted to Washington DC on the 12th Nov due to a medical emergency. There is a LOT of discussion on it on the Virgin Valiant Lady facebook page – because they did not get passengers til MIA until the next day, all those on the flight were cancelled off the virgin cruise that departed on the 13th, and due to US cruise regulations also not able to join at a later port. It was also the highly publicized cruise date where Branson was sailing with them!
