Does anyone know if it’s possible to book a reward flight on the website and then call up later to have the upgrade award applied with a subsequent refund of points (ie book upper class on website, and when having the upgrade voucher applied receive a points refund so only paying the premium points).
Reason being – can’t get through to call centre (+1 hr wait time) and don’t want to lose out on an available award flight.
Yes, possible as long as there is availablity in the cabin.
I’m not sure if it’s doable if you didn’t buy the tickets directly with VS, unfortunately this does make sense at times, as they don’t offer price promise

Thanks. I would have already booked the award on the website for the higher points, so availability wouldn’t then be an issue. It’s the whether they’d then retrospectively apply the upgrade voucher and refund the points difference I was interested it.
I may try it that way next time. I did eventually hold and got to speak to agent after 1.5hr wait so was sorted ok this time.
